BlackVPN Review in 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

BlackVPN (review) can be a VPN service operated by BlackVPN Ltd. in Hong Kong.

However, its 31 servers in 18 countries pale in comparison to rivals like NordVPN, which have thousands.

That is not always a deciding factor.

VPN servers are not always what they appear to be. repeatedly, they are rented or completely fake.

So, during this BlackVPN review, we started to determine whether or not a limited network should matter.

Do you have the rest of your service structure for this? Or do they fall short in several areas?

We determine.

BlackVPN’s Pros

These are the most important positives we experience with your service.

Does Not Collect Logs

BlackVPN does not keep track of your browsing history or use of third-party services.

Also, they don’t keep DNS records or a record of your actual IP address connecting to your VPN.

BlackVPN No logging

However, they retain your email address and payment details. But they wouldn’t be connected to online logs showing what you probably did.

So in that sense, his exposure is quite limited.

Three protocols are supported, with AES-256 encryption.

OpenVPN, SSTP, and L2TP / IPSec are among the tunneling protocols that BlackVPN supports. OpenVPN is the default, with out-of-the-box clients already set up to resolve immediately.

BlackVPN then uses 256-bit encryption, which is widely used and accepted by governments worldwide.

So it should be fine for you in most cases too.

However, there were two small problems.

The first is that you just can’t connect with us Westerners. Strange.

The second was that you simply need to close the application to vary the locations. Pain in the butt.

Fortunately, the latter is protected by an always-on kill switch.

All BlackVPN clients have a built-in kill switch that is activated by default. So you don’t have to worry about accidentally exposing your location or browsing data when switching servers.

Easy Setup and Use

BlackVPN’s OpenVPN clients are very easy to line up and get started.

Go to the highest page of the most, choose your VPN settings, and then choose your platform. Then you will get the installation files. Go ahead and install most of the programs to download the files from the server.

Upon installation, you will be explained how to add the servers. This part is super easy.

Then log into the box to attach your account.

BlackVPN easy setup

You can drop the server list down to change the server location. The amount you finally have access to will depend on the plan you are paying for.

Only the world plan gives you access to twenty or twenty. Whereas the TV plan offers you four pathetically low servers.

When you choose a server, you will be notified that it is connecting. And in some cases, you will be prompted to enter your username and password again.

To connect to a replacement server, you must first disconnect from the current one. Then, from the drop-down menu, choose your new one.

Works with Tor

The Tor browser is completely compatible with BlackVPN.

BlackVPN works with Tor

Tor is understood to add an extra layer of privacy to your browsing sessions. Random relay points are discovered to help redirect and hide your true location.

The only downside is that your data is not protected in any way. Your connection remains exposed and can be intercepted on any of the relays that you are passing through.

If hiding your location is of the utmost importance. Confirm that your VPN works well with Tor to keep you protected.

BlackVPN How does Tor works?

Customer service is prompt, courteous, and professional.

If you ever have a problem or question, BlackVPN’s customer service is simply an email, a tweet, or a chat.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned after reviewing over seventy VPNs. It’s that you simply can’t trust the face value backed by a corporation.

Just because they provide all of those options doesn’t mean they always work perfectly.

Fortunately, BlackVPN defied my expectations by responding quickly within 20 seconds of connecting to their live chat.

BlackVPN friendly customer support

In addition to being friendly and prompt, their support rep, Damien, was also very knowledgeable. an excellent experience everywhere!

BlackVPN’s Cons

There is tons of love about BlackVPN. We were impressed with their customer service (in an honest way).

Unfortunately, there have been a couple of hiccups along the way.

Here are some of the biggest complaints we experience.

Based in Hong Kong

Technically speaking, Hong Kong is outside the “Eyes” expanded security deal.

Therefore, they do not share the collected data with other major intelligence agencies around the world.

That’s an honest thing, right?

Yes and no.

Hong Kong, after all, is governed by the People’s Republic of China. As a result, only “government-sponsored” VPNs are permitted in China.

Maybe I am a cynic. & a conspiracy theorist. Or a silly American. Or all three.

Anything “government-sponsored” by an authoritarian dictatorship, on the other hand, seems dubious.

Based in Hong Kong means they are an honest choice for Ch

Make him what you want.

No Leaks, but Viruses Detected

This is one of that great news, bad news.

On the positive side, no DNS leaks were discovered. This means that if your VPN link says you’re in Amsterdam or the Australian outback. Everybody else sees the same thing.

You don’t have to worry about your VPN connection leaving your true location without even realizing it.

BlackVPN acquitted itself admirably in each of the six DNS leak tests. This is a fantastic start!

  • https://ipleak.net/ (none found)
  • https://www.perfect-privacy.com/check-ip/ (none found)
  • https://ipx.ac/run (none found)
  • https://browserleaks.com/webrtc (none found)
  • https://www.perfect-privacy.com/dns-leaktest/ (none found)
  • http://dnsleak.com/ (none found!)

We use your servers in Australia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom to ensure the accuracy of this test. Your IP address was not leaked by either of them:

After completing these five DNS leak tests, we ran the VPN installation files through VirusTotal.

It is when things began to go wrong.

Our test showed two big problems with the same files that you are ready to download and run on your machine:

Let me bring this full circle:

A “government-sponsored” software that very carefully also has two viruses in its installation files?

Make your own conclusions.

Not all platforms are supported.

BlackVPN covers the basics.

They’re compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. The installation files for each platform are available from the menu in the upper right corner of the page.

BlackVPN also works with routers and therefore the Tor browser.

All excellent news.

Except it is not compatible with SmartTV or game consoles. Not officially, anyway.

The customer service said there is a solution if you connect them to a router using BVPN.

Since BlackVPN operates on OpenVPN (including the BlackVPN app itself). There is actually no actual app to install on your smartphone and tablet. Instead, you should try the settings with the OpenVPN application, then manually connect to the servers by installing the servers.

On the bright side, you’ll be using an equivalent BlackVPN account on up to seven devices at the same time.

Slow Server Speeds

Actually, testing server speeds is pretty easy.

First, test your connection without any encryption added. My default started at 97.00 Mbps download and 53.00 Mbps upload.

Then it connects to different VPN servers and tries again.

You will almost always notice a decrease in both categories. But ideally, the difference is negligible.

That was not our experience during this scenario. This is what we saw on the US servers:

Article: BlackVPN Review in 2021

US Server

  • Ping: 113
  • Download: 15.23 Mbps (84.3% slower)
  • Upload: 22.50 Mbps (57.5% slower)

Holy Moly! that’s terrible! Download speed 84% slower?

Article: BlackVPN Review in 2021

Let’s double-check an EU server to determine if it was just one time.

EU Server

  • Ping: 42
  • Download: 66.04 Mbps (24% slower)
  • Upload: 43.01 Mbps (18.8% slower)

It’s fine. Not bad, but not great either.

Part of the justification for this biased performance?

My true physical location was pretty much on the edge of the Amsterdam server at the time. And not the US one.

It really is that simple.

The closer it is, the higher the performance (generally speaking).

However, that remains a drag during this case.

Remember that BlackVPN only has 31 servers in 18 countries. Limited networks like this often make it more difficult to:

  1. Find servers “free” from the stress of many other users, and
  2. Find these “free” servers that are still relatively on the edge of their initial location

So it’s not just that these one-off speed tests were bad. If it supports a limited network, we will probably also predict rather slow speeds in the future.

On the Two Most Expensive Packages, he collaborates with Netflix.

BlackVPN works with Netflix
Article: BlackVPN Review in 2021

More great news, bad news.

First, the good.

BlackVPN said that Netflix would work on the US West Coast server.

I have tested and confirmed that this is often true.

That’s a reasonably big feat, considering Netflix is cracking down on most VPN uses.

The bad part is that the server on the US East Coast did not work. Neither did the servers in Canada, the United Kingdom, or the Netherlands.

The other negative is that the job server is simply available under the more expensive plan options.

Therefore, you will have to spend more money if unblocking geo-restricted content is vital for you.

Limited Torrenting

BlackVPN limited torrenting

BlackVPN allows you to download torrents.

But only on select servers that are available only on select plans:

The cheapest (Privacy) and therefore the most expensive (Global).

Speaking of the expensive global plan, despite paying extra cash. You are still not allowed to use the US or UK servers to download torrents.

His reason was a bit puzzling:

BlackVPN reply about torrenting

Isn’t hiding your location the main reason to use VPN in the first place?

So if you get tracked within the US and UK, it seems this VPN provider won’t do its job?

They even put this torrenting issue to the fore in their terms of service when you sign up.

BlackVPN torrenting on ToS
Article: BlackVPN Review in 2021

So yes, technically, they allow torrents. But there are numerous restrictions that it is practically a wash.

Plan-imposed restrictions severely limit the features available.

We have alluded to the present in the last points.

But the features of your plan are heavily influenced (read: limited) and are compatible with the ratio you are paying.

For instance:

  • Privacy – 16 VPN locations, but NOT UK and US plus you can get P2P / Bittorrent with no restrictions. There is no TV broadcast.
  • TV: 4 VPN locations (3 within the US and 1 within the UK). With this package, you will also be able to “stream TV from the US and UK”. Without P2P and BitTorrent.
  • Global – 20 VPN locations (including 3 within the US and 1 within the UK). You will also be able to stream TV from the US and UK as well as P2P / Bittorrent with no restrictions. However, the downside to this package is that you just can’t use the US and UK servers for P2P and BitTorrent.

Most of the other VPNs we’ve reviewed will offer you full access to each plan. The only difference is the duration and price of the registration.
Unfortunately, that is not the case here.

BlackVPN Cost, Plans & Payment Methods

BlackVPN Plans
Article: BlackVPN Review in 2021

The price of the BlackVPN plan starts at EUR 49 (~ USD 58) and goes up to EUR 99 (~ USD 117).

You will also notice that their pricing plans are only available in annual installments currently.

You can buy BlackVPN through a wide variety of options, including:

  • Credit card, bank transfer, gift cards, and e-wallets via PaymentWall
  • Paypal
  • Bitcoin
  • FORTY Altcoin cryptocurrencies for anonymous payments

Unfortunately, you will be purchasing this app for cash.

But they also offer a three-day free trial, along with a 14-day money-back guarantee and no bandwidth limit like Betternet. That way, you can test the service for almost two and a half weeks before committing to the annual payment.

Do You Recommend BlackVPN?

I just like the pricing options, the very fact that it works with Tor, the fast customer service, the strong encryption, and no logging.

But most of the issues center on slow server speeds and thus the incontrovertible fact that you simply get torrents or the ability to unblock Netflix on certain servers on certain plans.

Not to mention its questionable jurisdiction complete with the ominous virus warnings we found.

There are too many other good VPN services, like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, or Surfshark, that don’t force you to sacrifice as much for possibly better features.
