Browsec VPN Review in 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

Browsec VPN (review) has a lot to give its customers. It’s confident enough to claim speeds of up to 100Mbps without jeopardising secure, private web browsing.

Affirmations are fine.

But after personally reviewing it, the merchandise shows significant flaws such as its actual speed, legal jurisdiction, and general use.

Don’t get me wrong, Browsec features a lot of solid features that are worth your time.

Still, how safe can a house with thick walls be when its doors are never closed?

Browsec can be a good VPN service which is sadly plagued by three critical issues. Is it worth your money? Well, that’s what this review will mention.

Browsec Pros

No Leaks and Virus-Free

Let’s start with security.

I run Browsec through a series of tests to determine if it leaks my IP, DNS, or WebRTC address. They all came back clean.

For example, the server in the Netherlands never exposed my real IP address:

And the DNS address also turned out clean:

Browsec passed this security test without any problem. A secure connection means that your true location is safe and you are ready to use public Wi-Fi without fear of hackers breaking into your system. Keeping your real location hidden also means that you will “unlock” content that would otherwise be inaccessible in your country.

No Viruses Found

Fortunately, the train that brings great news doesn’t stop there either. I ran the Browsec installation files through a VirusTotal scan and located it so it was clean too.

So you don’t have to worry about any ad tech (or worse) inadvertently stealing your private information.

No Logging Logging Policy

Logging policy BrowsecVPN

Your privacy is almost as good as the privacy policy of the VPN.

Browsec’s Privacy Policy supports the collection of some data, but keeps most of the particular usage data (such as the sites you visit, the belongings you download, etc.) together, which means that all activity from the users, so yours is often decrypted.

The bad news is that Browsec can still hand over your personal information if required by law. But this is usually quite common among some privacy policies and often depends on the laws of the home countries (we’ll get to the present in a few minutes).

36 Locations with 400 Servers and Growing

The number of servers and therefore the number of locations available offers plenty of room for flexibility and different functions. This is often because certain media outlets like Netflix and Hulu offer different products from place to place.

Now, Browsec presents a free version. That version only offers 4 locations:

  • Netherlands
  • Singapore
  • US
  • United Kingdom

The premium version, on the other hand, has 36 server locations for you to decide to include those listed above. Browsec also claims that its total number of servers is growing. this could offer more space for multiple networks to be available. Browsec users should expect such growth, but the current number available is already pretty good.

2 out of 6 Locations Unblock Netflix

Using a VPN to bypass geo-restriction laws won’t be easy. Create a server in any country you want, open Netflix, and watch its content.

Unfortunately, streaming services have recovered. In fact, most of the VPNs we’ve tested no longer work with services like Netflix.

Thankfully, Browsec defied the theme. I tried Netflix on six separate servers and discovered that only two of them were functional:

  • US West
  • South Korea
  • US
  • Belgium
  • France
  • Hong Kong

This is what you usually see when it doesn’t work (for comparison):

You Need To Use Your Browser To Access Netflix

Browsec does not have a desktop version of its application. It is only available for iOS, Android, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome. The last three versions are just an extension.

This means that if you want to use Browsec to access Netflix, you will need to use your browser to try.

Military-Grade Encryption

Browsec uses two types of tunneling protocols:

  • IPsec with AES256 (military-grade encryption)
  • HTTP Proxy

Its default IPsec is not as strong as OpenVPN, but it is significantly more secure than older protocols like PPTP.

Browsec’s browser extensions use HTTP Proxy. Its lightweight nature makes it easy to access and maintains an encryption level equivalent to that of a TLS protocol.

Knowledgable Customer Support

In the first step, Browsec doesn’t offer a solid knowledge domain or FAQ like some VPN companies do.

They also don’t have live chat available.

That caused some concern initially.

Fortunately, their email support was fast and efficient.

You can contact their support team through the icon located in the lower right corner of every page on their website or through their feedback page.

Please include your email address, issue, and any attachments. That is what there is to it.

In my case, I only waited for one-tap over an hour before they responded. I asked them a lot of questions and they gave me simple answers. They expand on your answers, which helps eliminate the need for more questions.

Easy Setup and Usability

Browsec’s usability is pretty good.

First of all, installing the VPN extension in your browser only takes a couple of clicks. Once it’s set up, you’ll log in and start using your secure network.

They only allow you to vary the location of the server once you activate it or by clicking “Protect me”.

Browsec also has a “Smart Settings” feature. this allows you to cover your identity when you visit certain websites.

The only downside is that you cannot modify the protocols because there is no built-in function within the application.

No Need for a Kill-Switch Feature

A kill-switch allows a VPN to interrupt your Internet connection every time your server’s network goes down. This prevents you from unknowingly using the web during a vulnerable position.

I asked the customer support team if Browsec has a kill switch feature. This was his answer:

Kill-switch BrowsecVPN

This is what they say:

A kill switch is fine on all app-based VPN networks like ExpressVPN or NordVPN. However, because you are connecting through a browser on Browsec, you don’t need one because the browser itself would pack up if you lost the connection.

Browsec cons

Slow Connection Speed

Browsec claims that delivery accelerates to 100Mbps when connected.

However, after actually testing them, this was boasted of being false.

Without using Browsec, this is my base link speed:

speed test no BrowsecVPN
Article: Browsec VPN Review in 2021
  • Ping: 22 ms
  • Download: 53.28 Mbps
  • Upload: 49.35 Mbps

I used six different servers for this experiment:

  • US
  • US West
  • United Kingdom
  • Netherlands
  • Hong Kong
  • Japan

Out of all of them, it was the Hong Kong server that stood out. While its download speed was terrible, its upload speed was not:

speed test Hong Kong BrowsecVPN

  • Ping: 64 ms
  • Download: 10.13 Mbps
  • Upload: 48.52 Mbps

The problem with slow speeds like these is that although you will theoretically be streaming Netflix with the 2 servers that worked, you will probably experience lags and other performance issues.

Lack of Transparency

Browsec does not have an “about” page. It also does not include information about your location. the only thing the service will study is that it is compatible with Russia.

Could this be a cause for concern? Yes and no.

Lack of transparency about your background could mean that you value and protect your users’ information supported by your government’s laws. This is why.

It’s Located In Russia

BrowsecVPN Russia Location Email

There’s a reason the simplest premium VPNs like ExpressVPN fall outside of the “Eyes” intelligence alliance. The 14 countries within the Eyes alliance work together to request whatever information they need from ISPs and certain VPN providers located within their borders, without you knowing.

Browsec is not based under the 14 eyes. However, Browsec is located in Russia. and that they have their own strict online censorship laws.

Russia continuously monitors online activity, which is bad news for any VPN provider located below them.

Does this guarantee that Browsec is turning over user information to the Russian government? Not really. But, by definition, they are not going to put up much of a fight either.

It Doesn’t Have A Desktop App

Browsec VPN versions
Article: Browsec VPN Review in 2021

Only iOS, Linux, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera are supported by Browsec. But only through browsers, not through apps. One of the reasons Browsec does not operate on Windows is because of this.

This is bad for several of the ways because:

  • It does not cover torrents.
  • Any application outside of your browser is not safe.
  • It does not support TOR.
  • Allows 5 simultaneous connections.
  • It does not support routers.

You can also get rid of safe and anonymous torrents or bandwidth usage-related issues. Downloading a torrent file completes outside of your browser.

If you want to watch Netflix, you will still be in the hay, but confirm that it is in your browser. Get rid of the standalone app that you can simply get on Windows.

Finally, it is not possible to use Browsec with TOR or through your router. His support team confirmed it.

Browsec Payment Methods, Plans, and Refund

payment plans BrowsecVPN
Article: Browsec VPN Review in 2021

Browsec has easy payment plans. They only offer two plans:

Annual plans are competitively priced, just one notch below NordVPN.

However, Browsec’s payment methods are quite limited:

  • Credit card
  • PayPal

If you want to buy Browsec, but are not sure whether it is worth a try or not, you will download its free version.

However, the downside to the free version of Browsec is that it limits tons of features like:

  • Connection speed
  • Connection stability
  • The number of server locations that you can simply use.

Browsec’s Refund Policy

refund policy BrowsecVPN

If you purchased Browsec but wish to cancel, the service offers a 7-day money-back policy.

You can unsubscribe through your account on your website with just one click.

Requesting a refund, on the other hand, requires you to email your support team ( from the correct account email. Also, you may need to provide the date and time, and the payment provider won’t get a faster response.

Do I Recommend Browsec?

Personally, I think you can do better than Browsec. But I’m also not suggesting that you should just rule it out.

Browsec offers tons of strong features like military-grade encryption, a large number of servers, excellent customer support, and access to Netflix. this is often further enhanced by its ridiculously simplistic setup and use.

On the conversation side, you have negatives like slow connection speed, browser limitations, and therefore the incontrovertible fact that it is located in Russia. Paying for a VPN service means that you value your privacy on the web. that same value is thrown out the window if an anti-privacy government rules the VPN.
