BTGuard Review In 2022: Features, Pricing & More!

BTGuard VPN Review: Quick Expert Summary

BTGuard can be a very unhealthy VPN service, and I highly recommend that you simply avoid getting it. There are considerably better VPN area units available in 2022 like ExpressVPN and Personal Internet Access.

BTGuard has industry-standard security features like bank-grade encryption and a no-logs policy, maintains fast speeds, works with Netflix, and provides good P2P support.

However, it’s missing a kill switch, it doesn’t have native apps (so you’d like to do inconvenient manual configuration), it’s not clear how many matching connections it allows, and it only has servers in three countries. That’s one of the few locations of servers I have seen.

Also, BTGuard can’t access major streaming sites like BBC iPlayer, Disney+, and Hulu, their customer service is terrible, it’s expensive, and there’s no money-back guarantee.

BTGuard has monthly and yearly paid plans.

BTGuard Review In 2022

I spent several weeks testing and researching BTGuard to see if it’s smart. I will safely say that it is one of the worst VPNs I have ever used and you should avoid it the least.

While it has good security features, smart speeds, works with Netflix, and supports P2P, BTGuard lacks a kill switch (an essential VPN security feature), so you risk experiencing traffic leaks, which can reveal its true scientific direction.

Also, BTGuard is difficult to use because it lacks native apps; instead, you’d like to make inconvenient manual settings that third-party apps take advantage of. There are much better VPNs on the market, such as ExpressVPN and Personal Net Access, which offer dedicated apps for all platforms, high-end security features (including kill switches), and excellent streaming and torrenting support.

BTGuard Features

The following industry-standard VPN security measures are present in BTGuard:

  • AES 256-bit Encryption: Bank-grade encryption that makes your traffic undecipherable.
  • No Logs Policy: BTGuard does not log your scientific address and your traffic (sites visited and files downloaded).

But BTGuard is missing an intrinsic kill switch, which is a necessary VPN security feature that disables online access if the VPN goes offline to protect you from traffic leaks. While not a kill switch, your real scientific address is exposed if the VPN affiliation drops. You can manually set a kill switch, but that’s very inconvenient – every major vendor on the market has apps with built-in kill switches.

BTGuard allows manual configurations for the PPTP protocol (I recommend avoiding PPTP because it is insecure) and the OpenVPN protocol but does not allow a WireGuard configuration, which is just as secure as OpenVPN but faster.

BTGuard does not mention whether or not it provides leak protection against IPv6, DNS, and WebRTC leaks. I reached out to intend customer support regarding this, however, I did not receive a response. I ran 10+ leak tests on all their server locations and didn’t see any leaks. That said, I’d still feel safer exploiting BTGuard if I knew what reasonable leak protection it provides (for example, ExpressVPN and CyberGhost VPN are fully capable). leak protection).

Additionally, BTGuard lacks other features that other top VPNs adopt, such as split tunneling and ad blockers. Additionally, it lacks advanced security features such as excellent forward secrecy (PFS) and RAM-only servers.

BTGuard Privacy & Security

BTGuard features a no-logs policy: it does not collect your scientific address or your traffic. It logs your email address (for account creation and communication), however, it doesn’t say if it collects membership timestamps and usage of information measures (I asked support reps about this, but didn’t get one). response).

That being said, I realize it’s exhausting to trust BTGuard’s no-logs policy because it was last updated in 2011. I think this VPN would be easier to trust if its no-logs policy was independently audited ( such as ExpressVPN and TunnelBear) to demonstrate that it does not store user information.

BTGuard Review In 2022

BTGuard is based in a North American country, which is an element of the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliances (a group of states that share police work data). However, if the government asks BTGuard to hand over user data, it can’t do so because it doesn’t store any personal data, which assumes its no-logs policy holds, of course.

In general, BTGuard comes with a no logs policy, however, I can’t trust it. Alternative high VPNs like ExpressVPN and Personal Web Access have strict no-logs policies that are verified.

BTGuard Speed & Performance

I tested BTGuard speeds on a server in each of the three countries where servers attack my Windows 10 laptop. I got the fastest speeds while connected to a nearby server in the Netherlands (BTGuard doesn’t have servers in my country). , Romania). Also, I maintained fairly fast speeds while connected to remote servers in North American countries and Singapore.

I first performed a speed test without the VPN to establish a reference point for my pre-VPN speeds:

Next, I used BTGuard’s quick connect feature to mechanically connect to the fastest server for my location, which was within the Netherlands:

Finally, I ran a speed test while connected to a foreign server in Canada:

BTGuard Speed & Performance

On nearby servers in the Netherlands, my speeds dimmed around eighty-seven, but Romania has web speeds in no time, so sites still load instantly and 4K videos on YouTube don’t buffer after I skipped them. When I connected to distant servers in the North American country, I hinted at a lag of ninety-two, but I still enjoyed fast speeds (downloaded fifteen GB in 10-12 minutes, that’s insanely fast).

Overall, I had fast speeds on every nearby and distant server. That said, there are plenty of faster VPNs out there, like ExpressVPN and Personal Web Access.

BTGuard Servers & IP Addresses

BTGuard only has servers in three countries (Canada, the Netherlands, and Singapore), which is one of the few places I’ve seen from any VPN provider. To put this in context, ExpressVPN has servers in over 90 countries and Personal Web Access has servers in over 80 countries. BTGuard has such a small variety of server locations that it is difficult for many users to search for nearby servers to achieve fast speeds.

I also don’t like that BTGuard doesn’t advertise its variety of servers like other high VPNs. I asked the support representatives why the number of servers is not available, however, I did not receive a response.

Also, while BTGuard allows torrenting on all of its servers, it only gets servers in three countries. The simplest torrent VPNs like ExpressVPN and Personal Web Access have P2P servers in most parts of the world.

Overall, BTGuard’s server network is too small compared to other high VPNs – most users won’t be able to access the streaming sites they need while traveling abroad or use nearby servers for fast speeds.

BTGuard Streaming & Torrenting

BTGuard isn’t great for streaming – it works with major sites like Netflix and Amazon Prime, however, if you’re in any country other than the three countries BTGuard has servers in, you won’t be able to access your home library on the go. . Foreign. Also, BTGuard does not work with Disney+, Hulu, or BBC iPlayer.

I think ExpressVPN is the best VPN for streaming: it works consistently with Netflix (including US Netflix), you can access over 65 alternative streaming apps, and it has easy apps on all platforms.

BTGuard Review In 2022

While BTGuard allows torrenting on all servers and works with high-end P2P apps like qBittorrent and Vuze, I don’t recommend victimizing it because it doesn’t have a kill switch. Simpler VPNs for torrenting, like ExpressVPN and ProtonVPN, have kill switches (and alternative advanced security features) and allow you to download torrents from servers in other countries.

In general, BTGuard is just useful for very basic streaming (it works with Netflix and Amazon Prime, but can’t access their North American and British libraries), and it’s not safe to use with torrents.

BTGuard Plans and Pricing

BTGuard has monthly and yearly paid plans. It claims to generate unlimited connections, but also says that it would terminate your account if it detects multiple locations at the same time. I asked the support representatives to clarify this, but they did not respond.

BTGuard Review In 2022

BTGuard’s paid VPN plans, which start at $9.95/mo, are overpriced for what they offer. Other top VPNs like ExpressVPN and Private Web Access offer a considerably higher price.

BTGuard only accepts PayPal and Bitcoin. I also hate that it doesn’t have a money-back guarantee, as most of the top VPNs have one; for example, ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

BTGuard Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps

BTGuard Review In 2022

BT-Guard does not have native apps, so you want to do manual configuration on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux, and other platforms. Step-by-step tutorials are available, but the setup method is still overwhelming for beginners or non-techies. Top VPNs like ExpressVPN and Personal Web Access have apps for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and UNIX operating systems that are easy to install and use.

On each of my desktop and mobile devices, I had to transfer and install third-party apps and manually import files from the VPN server to the apps to use BTGuard. I even have a lot of experience with VPN installation and abuse, but this method was still long and very annoying for me. The US state took 7-10 minutes to get started with BTGuard (on average it only takes 1-2 minutes to transfer and install a VPN app). There is a quick connect (faster) feature, however, third-party apps are still difficult to navigate and use.

In general, BTGuard does not have native applications, so you want to do difficult and annoying manual configurations. All the simplest VPNs in 2022 are accompanied by dedicated apps for the most popular platforms.

BTGuard Customer Support

BTGuard Review In 2022 BTGuard Customer Support
BTGuard Review In 2022

BTGuard’s customer support is incredibly unhealthy: it’s all about some FAQs, strict setup guides, and horrible email support.

Most of BTGuard’s FAQs are useless because they don’t even answer VPN-related queries. (On P2P servers, kill switches, and leak protection, for example). However, the setup tutorials are quite useful: they are easy to follow and include screenshots. That said, the best VPNs like ExpressVPN and CyberGhost VPN provide better tutorials that even include video guides. And their support sections have tons of helpful FAQs and troubleshooting guides.

I’ve tried BTGuard’s email support several times and generally had an unpleasant experience: support reps only knew about one of my support tickets and neglected the rest. And that they only provided the US state with obscure and useless answers, that did not answer my questions. What’s more, the representatives did not respond to my follow-up inquiries. And unlike other top VPNs, BTGuard does not provide live chat support.

Overall, BTGuard has terrible customer support: their support sections are restricted. They lack live chat support, their email support is unresponsive, and their support reps are unhelpful.

Is BTGuard Worth the Money in 2022?

I think BTGuard can be a terrible VPN and I highly recommend not to abuse it. There are much better VPNs on the market in 2022 like ExpressVPN, Private Web Access, and ProtonVPN.

BTGuard comes with bank-grade encryption, a no-logs policy, fast speeds, P2P support, and works with some streaming sites; however, it lacks a kill switch, which can be a crucial industry-standard VPN security feature.

On top of that, BTGuard lacks native apps (meaning you want to do manual configuration). Doesn’t make it clear what percentage of synchronous connections it supports, doesn’t make its number of servers public, and has one of the smallest servers around. networks in the market. Also, it doesn’t work with major sites like Hulu, Disney+, and BBC iPlayer, it has extremely unhealthy customer support. It’s priced too high, and it lacks a money-back guarantee.

BTGuard Frequently Asked Questions

Is BTGuard good for torrenting?

No – BTGuard allows P2P traffic on all its servers and works with popular P2P apps like uTorrent and qBittorrent, but it lacks a kill switch. While it is not a kill switch, your real scientific address will be exposed while torrenting if the VPN connection drops.

If you want a great VPN for torrenting. I recommend ExpressVPN: great security measures (including a kill switch), torrenting on all of their servers, works with the best P2P apps, and blazing-fast transfer speeds.

Does BTGuard work on Android and iOS?

Yes, but BTGuard doesn’t have native apps for iOS and robots. So you will have to do manual configurations by roughing up third-party apps. Which is very inconvenient, time-consuming, and difficult to complete.

There are much better VPNs for robots and iOS; For example, ExpressVPN has dedicated iOS apps and robots that are easy to install and use. They come with great security measures and have blazing-fast speeds.

Is BTGuard safe to use?

No, while BTGuard features a no-logs policy (which hasn’t been separately audited) and 256-bit AES encryption. It lacks a kill switch that disconnects you from the web if VPN affiliation fails. While not an off switch, you risk experiencing traffic leaks and exposing your actual scientific discipline address.

I recommend getting ExpressVPN instead because it’s a kill switch and also comes with advanced security measures like excellent forward secrecy (PFS) and RAM-only servers.

Can BTGuard access Netflix?

Yes, but I don’t advise roughing it up because BTGuard only has servers in three countries. So only users in those countries will be able to access Netflix.

If you want an honest Netflix VPN, I highly recommend ExpressVPN. It consistently works with Netflix and claims to work with over 65 alternative streaming apps, while offering blazing-fast streaming speeds.
