Emsisoft’s super-clean software and powerful security protections hit the US state hard: In terms of malware detection and ease of use, Emsisoft may be a better product.
I love the remote management feature. Which allows you to perform scans, change settings, read scans, and manage quarantined files from anywhere there’s an online partnership. I used this feature to check my personal computer while traveling abroad, and I am thinking of getting Emsisoft for my parents. So I will control their cyber security remotely. Emsisoft also contains some distinctive security features that make it stand out from the rest, such as Behavior Blocker for scanning suspicious files, and thus Emergency Kit for rescuing a badly compromised computer.
However, there are a few key features that I would like to see added to the Anti-Malware starter pack. While Emsisoft is designed for individuals and businesses, the lack of parental controls can be a bit frustrating. Plus, there are no identity protections, no password manager, and no VPN: Competitors like Norton and McAfee offer a host of full-featured web security products (for big bucks).
All of the above beings said I am confident that Emsisoft is one of the best-value antivirus software in 2023.
After three weeks of testing, this is what I got.
Emsisoft Security Features
Emsisoft has two antivirus engines: the first is a proprietary scanner that uses predictive algorithms to flag potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) and suspicious files, and the second is Bitdefender’s victory anti-malware engine. This dual-engine antivirus scanner is powerful: Emsisoft detected 100% of viruses, rootkits, Trojans, spyware, and ransomware in my tests, with fewer false positives than McAfee.
Emsisoft Dual Engine Scanner offers 3 completely different virus scanning modes:
- Quick Analysis. Parses files that measure squares in active execution. Quick scan took just two minutes on my computer and scanned over 64,000 objects, that’s amazingly fast.
- Malware Analysis. It checks the components of your computer where malware normally hides, such as downloads, system logs, and cached files. It took about ninety minutes on my computer, that’s pretty sensible – Avast took over two hours and incomprehensible many of the files that Emsisoft was able to capture.
- Personalized Analysis. allows you to select the folders to scan with 3 levels of intensity: Default, Full and Paranoid. I found the exhaustive and paranoid settings to be too alert giving us state a legion of false positives on different doable files it had downloaded by design, however that level of security can be useful for users who want intense security. The default custom scan analyzed every file on my Winchester drive – it’s the most comprehensive scan you can get, and it took about two hours on my machine. Capturing all the compressed malware files I had hidden around my drive.
Emsisoft is mechanically set to perform malware scanning every week, which you want to configure within the settings; I set mine to every three days.
It is also equipped with a silent mode that mechanically minimizes scanning and notifications during CPU-intensive processes.
I was affected by Emsisoft’s anti-malware engine. It runs faster than several competitors, didn’t slow down my PC much, and captured as many files as leading competitors like Kaspersky and Bitdefender.
The Behavior Blocker feature scans active programs for suspicious behavior and blocks them before they make any changes to your computer. This activity scan will protect your computer against ransomware, rootkits, and spyware.
I take a look at Behavior Blocker with a variety of malware testing programs on my computer. Behavior Blocker immediately alerted the US state that these test programs were behaving suspiciously, and Emsisoft proceeded to block them before a file could create changes to my system.
Behavior Blocker is also a useful diagnostic tool, providing alerts that make it easier to determine where suspicious files have been installed. Advanced users may appreciate this feature. While less tech-savvy users may simply want to use the auto-resolve feature (which fixes the problem for you). In my tests, Emsisoft was pretty good. It found that all my test files and lease system files and downloads run without any obstructions.
Emsisoft’s Behavior Blocker can be a powerful tool to keep you safe from harmful ransomware, rootkits, and different styles of malware that can hide from old malware scanners.
If you get regular calls to clean up infected computers, or otherwise just want to be ready in case of a computer emergency, Emsisoft’s Emergency Kit is an especially distinctive and useful feature. The Emergency Kit simplifies the diagnosis and secure removal of malware on any computer that is too compromised to put in new computer code. Simply transfer the emergency kit to a USB drive and you’ll get a portable version of Emsisoft’s antivirus engine that can run on any computer, with no installation required.
The emergency kit offers 2 interface options: there is a graphical software (GUI) for casual users. As well as a command-line version for advanced users. I didn’t use the command function, but the user interface is as intuitive as Emsisoft’s other interfaces – I had no problem removing malware from a damaged test computer.
The emergency kit can be a very useful feature in case your computer is hacked to the point where you can’t even log in, and thus the command interface makes it possible to wipe a computer even though you can’t access it. The mouse is a result of a malware infection. Panda Dome offers a similar function, but Panda does not include the command interface; there are not many other competitors that offer this handy tool.
Emsisoft’s cloud console is my favorite remote management feature of any antivirus I’ve used. It allows you to access a mirror of your antivirus panel from any application program. Alternative competitors provide similar options; however, no alternative software system provides the user with this level of administration. All the features of the desktop version of Anti-Malware house are here: running scans, adjusting firewall settings, checking previous scan logs, and browsing system files with Behavior Blocker will be done from any browser.
Cloud Console even offers analytics to track scan results across all your devices. This is certainly helpful for families and groups as the UN agency was able to see where the protection gaps are in their systems.
It’s also easy to get other permissions in the Cloud Console. “Full Access” allows you to modify settings on all your devices, while “Read Only” can keep users in the loop without letting them mess anything up. This can be useful if you are sharing your configuration with someone less tech-savvy. The UN agency should not have access to every aligned device configured there.
I usually travel for work, and I found the Cloud Console to be a very useful feature; I’m also considering getting Emsisoft for my parents, so I’ll be managing their web security remotely using the Cloud Console.
The Emsisoft Browser Security extension is accessible for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera. It is designed to detect and prevent you from browsing potential phishing sites.
This browser extension has made some improvements over the years. But it’s still not as good as the best anti-phishing engines – it missed some websites that were detected by Chrome’s intrinsic web protections.
The browser security extension is beneficial to anyone using Microsoft Edge or a web user because those browsers’ internet protections aren’t great. However, most users should simply transition to Chrome, Firefox, or Opera because they provide better security and ease of use.
Emsisoft Plans and Pricing
I like that Emsisoft offers a 30-day free trial for all paid plans; I used to be able to look at all the premium options without committing too much.
Emsisoft’s Anti-Malware House is a great option for a user who wants to hide a laptop. But the price increases with each additional device. There are a variety of competitors that cover multiple devices for a more solid price. If you’re looking for comprehensive antivirus protection across a variety of devices, Norton 360 might be a better option.
But Emsisoft could be a good value for individual users.
Anti-Malware Free — Only a Virus Scanner
If you opt out of buying Emsisoft Anti-Malware Home on top of the 30-day free trial. You keep Emsisoft’s free antivirus scanner. It only offers Emsisoft’s virus scanner, and zip plus, no anti-phishing, no anti-ransomware, and no remote administration.
If you just want an associated antivirus scanner, it’s not a bad choice. Emsisoft’s dual-engine virus detection is good. But if you’re looking for a free antivirus software system with good scanning and other features included, try Avira’s free antivirus.
The only drawback, in my opinion, is that Emsisoft’s free installation gives you access to the same customer service as its paid customers. The majority of antivirus providers only offer complete support to paying clients. All users of Emsisoft have access to live chat and email assistance.
Anti-Malware Home — Cheap, Reliable Protection for 1 Computer
This setup includes everything in the Anti-Malware Free setup, plus:
- Anti-ransomware. Blocks ransomware attacks from encrypting your knowledge.
- Behavior blocker. It detects programs that act suspiciously and blocks them.
- File Shield checks for viruses in all programs and downloaded data.
- Website protection. Blocks access to malicious websites.
- First aid box. Rescue severely broken computers.
- Cloud Console. Manage security through an online browser.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware house is a decent option for anyone looking for inexpensive protection on a single computer. While it’s best to travel with Norton or McAfee if you want multi-device support or alternative add-on options like a VPN, dark web watching, or parental controls, Emsisoft costs around 0.5 the maximum amount as a competitive antivirus software system to hide a machine.
Emsisoft Business + Enterprise Security — Good Protection for Businesses
Emsisoft also offers 2 plans for business users who want to hide a large number of Windows endpoints such as PCs, mobile devices, and/or servers. Each commercial plan provides Emsisoft’s full antivirus coverage, as well as Behavior Blocker, anti-ransomware tools, active scanning, Cloud Console, and a how-to scanner for IT professionals.
Both plans cover three endpoints, with an additional fee for each additional device But there are some key variations between Emsisoft Business Security and Enterprise Security. Emsisoft Business Security is more suitable for a small business: It only allows two directors and more than ten security and authorization policies. While Emsisoft Enterprise Security covers an unlimited number of directors and offers unlimited policies, as well as providing priority customer support.
Both Emsisoft Business Security and Enterprise Security are associated with a 30-day money-back guarantee. So you can try implementing them together with your small business, risk-free.
Emsisoft Ease of Use and Setup
Downloading and putting in Emsisoft Anti-Malware Home was not a downside on my laptop.
I downloaded the free trial, put in the program, and was running my initial scan in a matter of minutes.
Emsisoft’s interface is bright and intuitive. All of the choices, settings, and menus square measure simple to explore — it’s undoubtedly one of my favorite antivirus interfaces for laptops.
For the bulk of users, the house page is wherever you’ll pay the most time. Special protection options, scanning, logs, and settings square measure simply a click away.
Emsisoft includes an easily facilitate feature that has info throughout the program. Hovering over the “i” next to every possibility brings up evidence within the facilitate toolbar. However, a number of the reasons square measure a temporary touch. Whereas alternative options don’t have any explanations offered in any respect.
In the usual method, notifications can also be made to order. Notifications provide you with the ability to know when known risks are present or when routine scans are about to start. You can pick what kinds of alerts you want to get, how often they appear, and where they do so. If you prefer not to receive any notifications at all, you can manually activate Silent Mode.
Emsisoft’s Silent Mode suspends all scans and notifications — it mechanically engages once any program enters full-screen mode, so games, movies, or PowerPoint displays won’t be interrupted by your antivirus code.
You can opt for wherever you wish notifications to pop on your screen
Because it’s such a stripped-down antivirus code, the computer program integrates all of Anti-Malware Home’s functions very well. Whereas a lot of full-featured programs will get confusing with a large type of menus and options that have their desktop shortcuts, everything I want from Emsisoft is in one place.
Emsisoft Mobile App
Emsisoft’s mobile app is out there as a separate transfer — it’s a decent price, however, it’s solely out there for robot devices. Here’s what it offers:
- Malware Scanning. Protects your device from Android-specific malware.
- Web Protection. Anti-phishing and suspicious website blockers to stay you safe online.
- Auditing An App. Ensures that no apps on the Q.T. are accessing your files or camera and alerts you to any unusual activity.
- Anti-theft Tools. Remotely lock or wipe your device if it gets purloined.
The anti-malware scanner caught 100 percent of the malware in my testing, as well as ransomware and spyware, and also the app drained a lot less of my phone battery than several mobile antiviruses. The app auditing caught many suspicious apps I had downloaded from the Google Play Store before those dangerous apps were able to access my location and knowledge.
Emsisoft’s malware scanning, internet protection, and app auditing tools square measure all specific, however, the anti-theft protections aren’t that spectacular. Competitors like McAfee embody the power to remotely access your mobile’s camera and photograph the person victimization your device. Furthermore, as an AN warning device and device surveyor to assist you to track a lost or purloined phone.
Emsisoft Mobile Security is out there for a 30-day free trial, thus robot users will provide it to get into their mobile devices, risk-free.
Emsisoft Customer Support
Emsisoft’s customer support is limited to English users but wants to grow for the worldwide community.
English speakers will chat live with a support agent, email a price tag, or peruse user guides and FAQs on the website. The first time I connected to a live chat. It took me only thirty seconds to speak with the AN agent (who was very friendly and informative).
Live chat support answers query promptly and absolutely
However, live chat isn’t available forever; it’s random if AN agent will be there once you connect with support, even during business hours. If there are no agents online, you have the option to email a question. I sent an email during US business hours and got a response about eight hours later, that’s not dangerous, but it’s not good either.
In addition to measuring chat and email support, Emsisoft has cognitive-intensive content with lots of user guides and FAQs. Emsisoft also has a very active community forum for questions and comments. most of this content is in English. Also, there is a fair amount of chat in the German community forum, however, most non-English speakers may have difficulties with Emsisoft’s technical support.
Emsisoft could improve its customer service. I’d rather see them offer a live decision option like Norton or McAfee. Their live chat should be available 24/7 and email support response times need to improve as well.
What’s the Verdict? Is Emsisoft Any Good?
I like Emsisoft as an antivirus engine, however, I would like it as a web security suite. The Anti-Malware Home setup may be a tight price, but it lacks the necessary features, such as an arcane manager, parental controls, a VPN, or system cleanup tools.
However, it is still a powerful program. Malware scanning is top-notch, and anti-phishing and ransomware protections also keep users safe from a wide variety of cybersecurity threats. The Cloud Console feature allows full access to any of your devices from anywhere: Travelers, business managers, and families can find a lot of importance in this distinctive remote management feature.
If you’re looking for a full-featured antivirus suite with support for multiple devices. WITH a VPN, dark web monitoring, and an arcane manager, there are some much better options out there. However, if you are proud of your Arcanum and VPN manager and are just looking for a simplified antivirus program for your laptop and/or robot, Emsisoft’s antivirus suite may be a good option.
Frequently Asked Questions About Emsisoft
Is Emsisoft Safe?
Emsisoft can be a powerful antivirus program with the latest malware detection
— The antimalware engine is powerful enough to tackle viruses, Trojans, and spyware, as well as newer threats like ransomware and rootkits.
I ran Emsisoft through a good variety of test malware, and it blocked every malware file before it could influence my devices.
While the anti-malware engine is completely safe, Emsisoft does not include some of the latest security tools you may need to keep your devices 100% secure. For example, Emsisoft doesn’t include options like a VPN, positive ID manager, parental controls, and fraud protections that are included in premium antivirus suites like Norton 360.
Does Emsisoft Have a Free Plan?
Emsisoft will provide a free antivirus scanner, but that’s about it.
The free scanner is not advertised on their website, however, after the 30-day free trial of Anti-Malware Home, the free scanner remains on your laptop if you choose not to purchase the full Emsisoft package. If you just have to check your device for viruses, it’s a reasonably good tool. However, it does not include network protection, mobile support, the Behavior Blocker tool, or the emergency kit. Or the remote administration options that make Emsisoft Anti-Malware Home an extremely smart product.
Competitors like Avira offer additional full-featured free antivirus packages with a variety of useful options, however, Emsisoft’s free scanner is still an honest choice.
Is Emsisoft Mac or iOS Compatible?
Emsisoft only works for Windows and robotic devices; that’s smart because those two operating systems account for the vast majority of devices worldwide. but it’s still frustrating, especially for those using Windows and waterproof devices.
There are some particular options for Apple-specific web security tools, however, Emsisoft is not one of them.
Will Emsisoft Slow Down My Computer?
Any antivirus product can cause a bit of system lag, especially during scanning. this may be because the software system must evaluate every line and program on your system, checking it against malware information and analyzing suspicious behavior.
However, Emsisoft’s scanning engine is designed in part by Bitdefender, which is one of the smallest CPU-intensive antivirus scanners on the market today. I was able to use ikon writing programs on my laptop and browse the internet without lag while running a full system scan, which is healthier than some competitors like BullGuard.
Emsisoft also has legions of options for notifications and scheduling scans that can help you prevent scans and notifications from clogging up your system during busy times. Additionally, Emsisoft includes a silent mode, which suspends scans and notifications whenever a program enters full-screen mode. You’ll also be able to turn on silent mode when you want your laptop to run at peak performance.
Any antivirus can hamper your laptop a bit, however, if you schedule scans, use silent mode, and turn off your device frequently, it shouldn’t be a problem. Also, learning how to use the Associate in Nursing antivirus program effectively can be much easier than dealing with a malware infection that erases all your information and locks up your laptop.
Emsisoft Products & Pricing
Although Emsisoft Antivirus (Review) is a good and safe antivirus tool, it is only compatible with Windows and robotic devices. It doesn’t come with a tonne of extra features, like some of the more basic web security programs for laptops, but it does have good scanning options, an offshore management feature, a registered nurse, and an “Emergency Rescue Kit” that uses a USB drive to remove malware from severely infected devices. A free trial of Emsisoft Anti-Malware is available for 30 days.
