Is ESET any good?
ESET Antivirus Review is basically good at protecting your devices from malware, phishing scams, ransomware, and other online threats. While testing the program, I found that it kept my device completely safe while I used to be online. Also, at present, ESET has some great features to help you recover your device if it is lost or stolen. It also allows you to keep an eye on who is logging into your Wi-Fi router.
But don’t just take my word for it. In independent lab tests, ESET performed almost flawlessly in terms of coverage, performance, and usability.
According to the AV-Test Institute, ESET Antivirus scores an ideal six for all three categories on Android and a near-perfect total score of 17.5 when tested on Windows. Therefore, it is definitely one of the simplest antivirus solutions on the market.
However, there are some antivirus programs that work a little better on Windows, such as AhnLab, BullGuard, and F-Secure antivirus. But ESET Antivirus still works quite well, and if you’re using Android, it really can’t do better than ESET to protect your devices from online threats. It is also worth mentioning that ESET is not susceptible to false positives.
ESET Antivirus Security Review
ESET Antivirus Review provides near-flawless virus protection by offering a very sophisticated set of security measures. Let’s have a look at what it is and how it works.
ESET offers comprehensive protection for Windows, Mac, Android, and Linux, suggesting that it can simply protect a good variety of devices. And not only that: depending on the plan you select, it will protect multiple devices with an equivalent license. So you will use it on your laptop, smartphone, and tablet.
A license for ESET NOD32, for example, is often used to activate ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro on a Mac. So you acknowledge that no matter what operating system or device you use, you will get a complete set of security measures adapted to the platform you are using.
One of the worst sorts of malware is Ransomware. Once it sneaks onto your device, it encrypts all your files and demands a ransom. Ransomware is difficult to avoid, which is why it is important that you take all necessary steps to stop it.
Fortunately, ESET is in a position to prevent ransomware from entering your system. Of course, to be 100% safe, you should also backup all your important files and avoid opening suspicious email attachments or links.
Banking and privacy secured
ESET promises to keep your banking details more secure, allowing you to shop online without fear of your payment details being compromised. This feature is activated automatically every time you visit a recognized financial site. will help you switch to a secure browser to protect your payment details.
Once you have chosen to use a secure browser for a financial website, it will automatically open during a secure browser each time you visit it.
ESET Antivirus Extra Features
Like most antivirus programs, ESET offers a couple of additional features in addition to its security options. Let’s explore them below.
ESET comes with some useful features to keep your devices safe from theft:
- Location tracking allows you to tag your device as lost within ESET’s anti-theft web interface if it ever fails. This handy feature will automatically monitor your device and display its position on a map using within-range Wi-Fi networks as soon as the device connects. You will then access this information using ESET’s Anti-Theft feature whenever you want to find out where your device is.
- Anti-theft optimization makes it easy to configure Windows automatic logon and operating system account passwords. This helps you increase the degree of security by prompting you to change key system settings.
- The laptop activity clock works by allowing you to access your laptop’s built-in webcam to watch thieves who stole your machine. It will even collect snapshots of your lost laptop screen and save recent photos to help you get your laptop back.
- One-way messaging allows you to create a message and display it on the screen of your lost device to increase the chances that it will be recovered.
- A ghost account means that you will create a fake account for thieves to log in. this suggests that they will log into this fake account without a password, so they are not ready to access any of your personal files.
- Browsing history and IP address access allow you to see what a thief is checking on your device. Also, it allows you to track the location of your device by looking at its IP address.
These tools are literally really helpful if your device is lost or stolen because they can help you get it back. And therefore the anti-theft functions are a very useful addition to your mobile device or your laptop.
ESET Password Manager
ESET has included a password manager with its more expensive plans (more on plans and pricing a tap below). And it’s pretty good when it comes to password managers, although there are other programs that offer more features.
The main thing is that ESET’s password manager is extremely secure. It uses secure 256-bit AES encryption to protect your passwords from hackers.
And it’s comfortable, too. It allows you to synchronize passwords on all devices with the ESET application. And it’s like a Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browser plugin on your desktop.
In testing, ESET’s password manager worked fine, auto-filling and automatically saving my passwords without errors or prompts. It really is extremely intuitive.
However, it’s worth noting that you can only import passwords from various third-party password managers. this will cause a serious problem if you are transitioning from an existing password manager to ESET.
Perhaps most worryingly, ESET’s password manager is missing some pretty essential features that you will find in many of its competitors. This encompasses violation monitoring, auditing, password sharing, and emergency access between users.
In general, if you don’t have a password manager and you are thinking of signing up for at least one of ESET’s more expensive plans, you might as well use the included password manager. But if not, you will probably like to use a third-party password manager that has more to offer.
Plans and pricing
ESET Antivirus provides excellent protection against online threats and has many useful features to keep your devices safe, even if they are lost or stolen. But what proportion does it cost? Well, there are three different price points. We’re going to break it down to help you decide which of those plans, if any, is valid for you.
|ESET NOD32 Antivirus Essential Protection||basic antivirus security suite, ransomware protection||$39.99|
|ESET Internet Security Advanced Protection||advanced antivirus security suite, protection for ransomware, network security||$49.99|
|ESET Antivirus Ultimate Protection||everything included in the ESET Internet Security advanced protection plan, password manager, and a feature to encrypt your photos||$59.99|
ESET NOD32 Antivirus Essential Protection
ESET‘s first and most basic offering is its NOD32 Essential Protection package. And what you get with it depends on the platform you are using.
If you are using Windows, the ESET NOD32 Essential Protection plan gives you access to ESET antivirus software and real-time protection against ransomware attacks. But it does not accompany any of ESET’s premium tools. However, in case you have Android, none of the ESET NOD32 Essential Protection features will work on your device.
For those using macOS, the ESET NOD 32 Essential Protection package will give them access to ESET’s basic antivirus security suite. It also offers excellent protection against ransomware. But, like the Windows version, it doesn’t include any of the premium features. However, if you are using Linux, the ESET NOD32 essential protection plan gives you exactly the same security measures as the more expensive plans.
So what proportion does it cost? Well, prices start at $ 39.99 for a device during the primary year. But if you want to protect more devices, it will cost you extra cash. Here’s a breakdown of how much it will cost during the elementary year:
- One device: $39.99
- Two devices: $49.99
- Three devices: $59.99
- Four devices: $69.99
- Five devices: $79.99
ESET Internet Security Advanced Protection Plan
For an extra $ 10, you’ll get tons more in terms of security measures. ESET’s Advanced Internet Security Protection Suite comes with all the virus and ransomware protection included in the NOD32 Essential Protection Plan. But it also comes with a host of additional tools to keep you safe from online threats.
If you are using Windows, the ESET Internet Security advanced protection package comes with:
- Network and ransomware protection
- Secure browsing
- Wi-Fi network protection
If you have Android, the ESET Internet Security advanced protection plan is the best choice for you. After all, it costs an equivalent because it is the most expensive plan and offers an equivalent level of protection. And, as you saw in independent lab tests conducted by the AV-Test Institute, it offers flawless virus protection for Android. Comes with:
- Malware protection
- Protection against ransomware
- Application permission request management
If you are using macOS, the ESET Internet Security Advanced Protection Suite may be a great option because it is an equivalent feature to those included in the more expensive option. Including ransomware and network protection.
The Linux plan offers you a uniform set of features than the other plans. It comes with access to your antivirus software and therefore the ability to keep your computer optimized with a small system footprint.
ESET Internet Security’s advanced protection plan starts at $ 49.99 for the elementary year. And like other ESET plans, the value varies depending on the percentage of devices you would like to protect.
The ESET Internet Security Advanced plan price list is as follows:
- One device: $49.99
- Two devices: $59.99
- Three devices: $69.99
- Four devices: $79.99
- Five devices: $89.99
ESET Antivirus Ultimate Protection plan
As you can imagine, ESET Antivirus Ultimate Protection comes with absolutely all ESET security measures to provide maximum protection against online threats.
If Windows is your operating system of choice, this is often where the ESET Ultimate package really stands out. In addition to all the features included in the ESET Internet Security advanced protection plan, you can also get access to ESET’s password manager. Which, as we discussed earlier during this guide, maybe a nice extra, but not one that you should necessarily base your decision on. After all, there are far better third-party password managers.
However, ESET’s most expensive package in Windows also comes with the power to encrypt your photos, so no one can see your images. This is often a very useful feature if you are concerned about keeping your photos safe. But otherwise, I’m not quite persuaded of the value of the bundle ESET Ultimate Security.
Unfortunately, it is never worth paying more for ESET’s premium plan if you don’t use Windows because it offers nothing other than ESET Internet Security’s advanced protection plan on the other platform. So you get exactly the same level of protection on Android, macOS, and Linux as with the slightly cheaper plan.
All of this can cost you $ 59.99 for the primary year. Which is quite expensive for antivirus software, especially if you consider that this price only covers you for one device. If you want to protect a device, it will cost you more.
The price of the ESET Premium Ultimate Security package is as follows:
- One device: $59.99
- Two devices: $69.99
- Three devices: $79.99
- Four devices: $89.99
- Five devices: $99.99
ESET solutions for business
If you want to protect your small business from viruses, ESET has you covered. It offers a couple of different plans for businesses, ranging from five to 100 devices.
You can manage all devices from one dashboard, examining and reviewing each threat separately.
These are the various plans that ESET offers for businesses:
- Protect Entry, incorporating security management, endpoint protection, and digital IT security
- Protect – Advanced, incorporating everything from Protect Entry along with full disk encryption and cloud sandbox
- Protect-Complete, which incorporates everything from Protect Advanced along with email security and cloud application protection.
Ease of use and setup
I found ESET quite easy to align and use. It didn’t take long to download and it had easy step-by-step instructions to make sure I enable all the correct permissions.
As soon as it is installed on your machine, ESET starts scanning your device for viruses and points out any potential problems. They can then be solved by ESET software with the click of a button.
The desktop interface is clean and clutter-free with a menu of useful functions that are listed on the left side of the application. I liked the simple and colorful design and found it very intuitive and easy to navigate.
It is very easy to attempt an antivirus scan and therefore the customization options are not difficult to align. Therefore, it is ideal for both advanced users and average users.
ESET mobile app
The ESET app works quite well on Android. However, it is not available for iPhone. So if you are on iOS and want antivirus software, you will have to look for another security solution.
Therefore, I had to check the Android version. And as smartphone antivirus apps advance, they are actually specialized. It comes with a host of useful tools and features:
- The antivirus scanner allows you to scan your device for viruses immediately. You also have options that allow you to schedule scans or allow you to run an antivirus scan as soon as you have connected your device.
- Anti-theft protection helps you find your device if it is lost or stolen by using GPS and verifying your IP address. You’ll also see your browsing history and even take screenshots of your device to see exactly what it’s being used for. this could help you locate it
- Phishing protection keeps your personal information safe by blocking any website or domain listed in ESET’s malware database
- Payment protection adds an extra layer of protection every time you use a payment or banking app
- App Lock works to protect your privacy by preventing others from browsing the private data in your apps to guard against unauthorized access
- The call filter blocks any unknown or hidden number that keeps bothering you. It also allows you to filter calls by caller ID and therefore time of day
- Connected Home allows you to determine all devices connected to your home Wi-Fi network and scan your router for potential vulnerabilities
- Security auditing allows you to review and adjust your device settings and application permissions
How good is the ESET mobile security app?
While testing the ESET application, I was quite impressed by how successfully it blocked malware threats and flagged suspicious applications that I tried to download from the Google Play Store. But then, considering its perfect score in independent lab tests, it’s no wonder it ran smoothly.
The anti-theft feature was particularly helpful and helped me locate my device very quickly during testing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an alarm that you can just remotely pop out of to alert anyone to the fact that your phone has been stolen. And you don’t have the option to erase your personal data from your phone.
Other than that, the ESET Android mobile app works quite well and provides an excellent level of protection at no cost to the world.
Unlike many antivirus software providers, ESET actually makes it easy to find your phone number. In fact, it is included in the footer of the website. There are many other useful contact details available, with numbers and email addresses for each department. So whether you want to be successful in the sales, marketing, customer service, or IT support team, you will find an easy way to reach them.
This is far more useful than having to go through endless help guides and preliminary questions before finding your contact details, as is the case with most antivirus software sites.
There is also a Customer Support option in the mobile app, which is basically useful.
Most departments are open and ready to answer emails and answer calls between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Which seems reasonable enough, although not ideal if you encounter an obstacle after hours.
ESET’s website claims that it offers 24/7 email support, although I definitely had to attend until business hours to find a solution. Still, this is usually pretty good, and I really liked the fact that ESET doesn’t try to dissuade you from getting in touch.
And if you prefer to try to solve your problem without talking to someone, ESET has many helpful guides and FAQs that will walk you through any common problems you have with your ESET software or account.
ESET Antivirus Alternatives
In case you are unsure whether ESET is the right antivirus for your device and you need to determine how it compares to other top products on the market, check out some of the short comparisons below.
The main difference between ESET and Avast is the incontrovertible fact that Avast offers a free version and ESET does not. Of course, the free antivirus package doesn’t offer much more than malware protection, but it’s still something.
Avast also offers a couple of features that ESET does not offer. for example, a file shredder and a VPN (which is included in the most expensive package). However, ESET has more features for Android, such as Application Audit and Device Monitoring.
Bitdefender is another good antivirus solution. After all, it is listed as our number one antivirus tool of 2021. That’s because not only is it inexpensive, but it also includes many security measures that will help you sleep better in the dark, knowing that your system is fully protected.
When it comes to ESET vs Bitdefender, the latter offers more advanced features like Anti-webcam hijacking, a VPN, and Profiles. You will read our Bitdefender review for more information.
Comparing ESET with Norton is obviously the same-caliber applications, from malware detection rates to application quality. But in terms of variety of functionality, Norton 360 has a little advantage over ESET.
For example, it’s webcam protection, Dark Web monitoring, and a VPN. Also, the Norton 360 Essential Bundle is cheaper than ESET’s Quality Plan.
Is ESET Antivirus Worth Getting?
In practice, I found that ESET’s virus protection worked quite well. It detected the potential threats and managed to protect my device from any risks it faced. And, as I mentioned earlier, it performed quite well in independent lab tests.
It also has some pretty useful features, including the Connected Home Monitor tool that does an honest job of showing you every device connected to your home Wi-Fi network. This is not a feature that you will find standard in all antivirus programs and it is actually very useful. Especially if you have had problems with people accessing your Wi-Fi without your permission.
However, ESET’s security suite is not without its flaws. The secure browser that promises to encrypt everything you type sounds great, but it doesn’t really offer as much additional protection. After all, it doesn’t keep you safe from screen loggers and many of the keylogger programs are ready to access what you type directly from your keyboard before it is even encrypted in the browser.
Other than that, the spam filter was not as useful as it sounds. It only works in Microsoft Outlook, which is not the most popular email service. Therefore, this will not benefit a large number of consumers who use Gmail or Yahoo!
Overall, if an honest level of online security is what you are looking for, ESET’s Wi-Fi monitoring, firewall and anti-phishing are excellent. But if you want something a little more robust, Norton 360 or McAfee could be much better thanks to their use.
Here, all your inquiries regarding ESET antivirus software will be answered.
Is ESET Antivirus safe?
Yes. ESET is a market-leading safest antivirus product. It offers great protection from any malware, ransomware, spyware, and phishing sites.
Is ESET better than Norton?
No. Norton offers a 100% protection guarantee and uses many sophisticated protocols to eliminate zero-day attacks. However, both ESET and Norton 360 perform extremely well in independent laboratory tests. But Norton has more features and is also a bit cheaper. So overall, Norton 360 may be a more sensible option than ESET.
Which is better, Kaspersky or ESET?
Kaspersky is the most sensible choice for antivirus software because it comes with stronger protection and has more features in its security suite.
Is ESET free?
No. However, you will download your free 30-day trial version and see if this antivirus program is for you.
