“FastestVPN” (review) can be a descriptive name at the very least.
And therein lies the dilemma.
When you call yourself “FastestVPN” you are making a big claim and cornering yourself.
You risk losing all credibility if rivals overshadow your speed.
That’s exactly what we started looking for during this FastestVPN review.
Are they really the “fastest”?
Or is it just a publicity stunt and they hope everyone doesn’t control it too closely?

This is why.
FastestVPN does an outstanding job of privacy for a service that prides itself on speed.
Located in the Cayman Islands
There is a reason people love the Cayman Islands so much.
Partly it is to try with the weather, the beaches and therefore the little cocktails with umbrellas.
The island’s fascination with confidentiality and privacy is another. Banks, for example, would not divulge details about their customers.
And the same goes for VPN companies.
The Cayman Islands are also not a member of the Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, or Fourteen Eyes security agreements. this is often a huge advantage.
Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain any information about their payment processing company (to confirm that they were also outside of those alliances).
However, they allow you to pay with bitcoin. Therefore, there is a minimal method to further protect your personal data.
Does Not Log Your Activity
In addition to a privacy-friendly jurisdiction, FastestVPN also features a pretty good logging policy.
But they do collect minimal information for internal use, such as your email and any session information related to marketing (Google Analytics, Hotjar, and Live Chat).
Supports Five Protocols with AES 256-Bit Encryption
FastestVPN supports five tunneling protocols: PPTP, L2TP, IKEV2, TCP, and UDP.
That is great news. a lot of flexibility.
The bad news is twofold:
- By default, PPTP. Which is not safe in the least.
- They are compatible with OpenVPN, but you have to do some manual installation work.
Beyond protocols, FastestVPN uses industry-standard 256-bit AES encryption. This is often bank-grade material used by security professionals around the world.
Then it is legitimate.
In general, we will group them under the pros.
Pretty Fast (But Not the “Fastest”)
And now the moment everyone was waiting for.
Is FastestVPN really the “fastest”?
But it wasn’t too bad for them. They were ranked 18th out of 78 VPNs we tested, just behind VyprVPN.
Our non-VPN connection had a download of around 95.27 Mbps and an upload of 34.88 Mbps.
Now, let’s turn on the VPN and see the speed differences.
US Server (Florida):
- Ping: 132
- Download: 87.51 Mbps (8.1% slower)
- Upload: 13.17 Mbps (62.2% slower)
Good download speed. just 8% slower than my normal speed without the VPN on.
Not so good loading speed. Leaves tons to be desired.
Next, let’s test a Euro server.
EU Server (Sweden):
- Ping: 36
- Download: 92.95 Mbps (2.4% slower)
- Upload: 27.80 Mbps (20.3% slower)
Again, the download speed is excellent, while the upload speed lets them slow down a bit.
It’s not bad in the least. It is not, however, the “fastest.”
Torrenting Is Allowed
FastestVPN does not have a bandwidth limit.
This is great news for fans of downloads. They also allow their service to be used with torrent applications.
So if you are looking to download massive files at fast speeds, you are safe!
Compatible with Multiple Devices
FastestVPN works with Windows, macOS, five different Linux distributions, iOS, Android, Chromebooks.
They also support eleven different routers as well as Kodi. It’s just a matter of selecting the one you want and downloading the installation file.
They have native apps within the iOS and Google Play app stores. But if you feel like living dangerously, you will also download the APK installation file directly from FastestVPN and install it yourself.
FastestVPN is also compatible with Apple TV, PlayStation 3 and 4, and therefore Xbox.
You can use an equivalent FastestVPN account on up to 5 devices at the same time.
Very Easy to Use
Most users can download the VPN client in seconds.
I can confirm that using it is extremely easy after trying both the Windows version and the macOS version.
No delays or mistakes. and very little margin for error.
When the app starts, you will get your standard login box. (You should have already signed up for a customer account on the website and have chosen your plan.)
When you log in, you will automatically connect to a server in depth.
To disconnect or vary the servers, click on the yellow circle in the middle with the lightning bolt. this can disconnect you.
To choose a replacement server, click on the three horizontal lines within the upper left corner, choose “Locations” and it will address your options.
And you are liberal to sail from there! Happy surfing.
10 Simultaneous Connections Allowed
With one account, you can use the application form 10 different devices.
The last time I checked FastestVPN, there were leaks … tons of them.
The goal of using a VPN in the first place is to protect your personal data.
Yes, security is a component of it. But so is anonymity.
You don’t want to divulge your location, for example.
Connection “leaks” threaten to undermine this anonymity.
You think you are solid. Meanwhile, your VPN hangs a symbol that says:
“Here I am, come find me.”
FastestVPN put up a huge “ol” sign.
I had to retest the results 3 times to make sure it wasn’t a fluke.
My actual location was leaked multiple times, on many different tests.
- https://ipleak.net/ (multiple leaks found)
- https://www.perfect-privacy.com/check-ip/ (none found)
- https://ipx.ac/run (multiple leaks found)
- https://browserleaks.com/webrtc (one leak found)
- https://www.perfect-privacy.com/dns-leaktest/ (multiple leaks found)
- http://dnsleak.com/ (three leaks found)
You do not believe me?
However, once I tried the VPN again in March 2019, I found that there have been no leaks.
We also run the VPN installation files through VirusTotal. The installation file came back clean.
The purpose of an “automatic switch” is to prevent your real IP address from being revealed if the VPN connection is interrupted.
This could happen with a technical malfunction, but also when you simply switch servers.
A kill switch will block your internet connection while you search for a replacement VPN server. Then it reconnects it to the web when it does.
There was no Kill Switch when we last checked FastestVPN. Also, it appears that this has now been resolved.
FastestVPN looks pretty solid on paper.
And your five-year agreement for less than $ 0.83 / month seems too good to be true.
So it is?
Does Not Work With Netflix
Forget about unblocking Netflix.
We were cautioned against getting our hopes up.
On their website, FastestVPN states that they do not support Netflix in any way.
But we actually had to check them out.
We got one to be featured on a server in Florida. However, four others were blocked:
- United States: New York
- United Kingdom
While testing, Netflix also kept redirecting us to our home country version. Which was another painful reminder that even they knew our actual location had a leak.
So, don’t estimate streaming geo-restricted content with FastestVPN anytime soon.
Doesn’t Seem to Work with Tor
Combining a VPN with Tor doubles your anonymity with an added layer of security.
However, our research was unable to find any mention of Tor support.
To check, we try to bend to your help. But this, too, yielded no results.
So once again, don’t back it up.
‘24/7’ Customer Support is Non-Existent
Customer service is often contacted via email and live chat.
There is also a Support section that you will inspect before emailing them.
The business claims to be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Except, according to our test, they are not.
We got to clarify three different issues:
- What payment service is used for MasterCard transactions?
- Is FastestVPN compatible with the Tor browser?
- Why does one have no kill switch?
We test email. But there was no luck. The hours passed and they continued without answer.
So we jump into live chat and post matching questions.
Someone? Someone? Bueller?
Not a thing.
I waited on the brink of two hours for the webchat to ask me to reply. There was no answer.
This is a corporation that claims 24/7 customer support, but no emails or chat requests were answered for several hours.
Too Few & Inconsistent Servers
Many VPNs are located around their servers.
And we noticed a couple of inconsistencies on the FastestVPN servers.
Many times, a corporation may tell you that it needs a server in one location, only to have it actually be elsewhere.
FastestVPN claims 100+ servers in 23 locations.
But once you open the desktop app, you will only see 29 servers.
Furthermore, in-country they visit, they only show one server. In the United States, there are seven. The percentages, however, do not add up.
And either way, there just aren’t enough to make it worth your while.
Otherwise, you risk being forced to share equivalent overcrowded servers with everyone else.
FastestVPN Cost, Plans & Payment Methods
You can buy FastestVPN monthly, annually, or every two years.
Monthly is $ 10 a month, which is on the more expensive end of the spectrum.
But if you buy it for $ 29.95 upfront (one year), that drops to just $ 2.49 per month.
And if you pay $ 39.95 for a three-year plan, they are virtually giving away their service at $ 1.11 a month.
At the time of this writing, they were also promoting a short-term special offer on a five-year plan for just $ 0.83 a month. However, they do not give any indication as to how long that supply will remain open or whether they will make it permanent.
All plans are accompanied by a 7-day money-back guarantee. Their is no trial period, but you have seven days to request a full refund if you are not satisfied.
It is also only one plan level.
There is no “Basic” or “Pro” level with additional features. the only difference is how long you would like to buy in advance.
You can buy FastestVPN via credit or open credit, PayPal, Bitcoin (anonymous), and AliPay (China-based third-party online payment platform, made by Alibaba).
Do I Recommend FastestVPN?
The speeds are, in fact, quite good. Its location in the Cayman Islands and its logging policy is encouraging.
They also provide an excellent variety of device options.
Unfortunately, the Cons outnumber the Pros at the top of the day.
My tests on the Netflix servers were not fooled. They kept redirecting me to Netflix from my home country.
Netflix might be cracking down on proxy servers too, but there are still tons of VPN servers trying to stay one step ahead of Netflix.
FastestVPN seems not to be bothered.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, customer support is completely non-existent.
I still have the timer ticking the reply to the returning email, but I am not counting my chickens.
Nobody bothers to reply to my live chat message either.
If that’s your idea of ”24×7″ support, you should use VPN software from an excellent provider, like NordVPN.
