Goose VPN (review) is a Goose B.V. trip from Rotterdam within the Netherlands.
The Netherlands are known for their open-mindedness, liberalism, and funny accents.
But is it also known for its great VPN services?
That’s exactly what we’ll determine during this Goose VPN review.
We signed up on their server, put them through a series of tests, and we’ve lived to talk about it.
This is what we found.

Goose VPN Pros
They provide an honest selection of protocols, strong encryption standards, are available almost everywhere, and are easy to use.
They even have customized Netflix-compatible servers.
This is what we liked about them.
Supports four protocols, including OpenVPN
Goose VPN supports four VPN protocols, including IKEv2, L2TP / IPSec, PPTP, and OpenVPN.
The default standard is IKEv2 because it is apparently the fastest. But Goose VPN admits that IKEv2 can be “blocked pretty easily.”
Its FAQ section does an excellent job of helping you determine which protocol is best (based on your goals).
For example, L2TP is better for routers and modems, and OpenVPN is basically hard to block but a little slower.
The good news is that you have 114 servers in 25 countries to choose from. That isn’t the tiniest server network we’ve come across.
AES-256 Encryption Standard
Goose VPN employs the AES-256 encryption standard, which is widely accepted in the market.
It is favored by the United States government for one simple reason:
It is practically piracy-proof.
So you can be sure no one is hacking to make sure you are taking note of ABBA on Spotify.
Allows You To Download Torrents
Torrenting is possible using GooseVPN, but only on certain servers.
To find out which servers are torrent / P2P approved, enter the list of countries in your Goose VPN desktop app and the appearance of the countries marked “P2P Server”.
They will have a “P2P” touch icon next to the signal strength.
Compatible On Various Devices
Goose VPN works with standard Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android devices.
But that is not all.
Android TV, routers, NAS firewalls, ChromeOS, and Raspberry Pi are also supported. That last one I had to look upon the internet.
Speaking of Google, there is also a Chrome browser extension that you can simply use without installing the desktop client.
But wait, there’s more!
You can also connect game consoles through the router.
Unlike others, Goose VPN also provides native apps to install on your phone. Just look inside the app store.
If you have the expertise, you may download the Android APK installation file directly from the Goose VPN website and install it.
In a radical departure from other VPN services, you’ll be using an equivalent Goose VPN account on as many devices as you want at an equivalent time. Hurrah!
However, if you are using the restricted 50GB per month service, the use of many devices is going to suck up that 50GB in no time.
Very Easy To Use Application
The Goose VPN client is very easy to use.
You choose your country, turn on the switch, and voila. The connection is quick and easy.
If for any reason you want to vary the server, simply access the country menu and choose your preferred location. You do not need to disconnect the current server first. you will simply choose the new server and Goose VPN will skip it.
Just remember to enable the Kill Switch within settings first, so your real IP address is not temporarily revealed while you switch servers.
This leads us to the next point…
Kill Switch Included
A Kill Switch is not as deadly as it sounds.
Instead, it will temporarily stop your Internet connection while it finds and connects to a replacement server.
This also cuts your connection when transferring between different servers or if you lose your Goose VPN connection.
The purpose is to prevent your real IP address from being temporarily revealed when Goose VPN is turned off for any reason.
The only downside is that you simply have to turn it on yourself. it is disabled by default.
Supports Tor Browser
The TOR browser helps to anonymize web traffic by transmitting its signal through different points.
Unfortunately, it has no effect on the security of your traffic.
This is why doubling with a VPN is vital.
Just keep in mind that the more VPN connections you run, the slower your connection will be. that’s the compensation for anonymity.
Netflix Works With Special Streaming Servers
Netflix is no longer willing to indulge in “regional purchases.”
VPN users won’t be ready to just change the server location and stream whatever they want, whenever they want.
Unfortunately, that is not the case.
Netflix has been shutting down VPN access in droves.
In fact, only a couple of VPNs still work on Netflix for at least this very reason.
The good news is that GooseVPN offers a couple of “special streaming servers” to help avoid detection.
We had a touch issue with some US and UK servers, but we were ready to unblock Netflix using the special streaming servers successfully.
- Canada works
- Work in the USA (Special Broadcast Server)
- UK works (special streaming server)
- Netherlands works (special streaming server)
Goose VPN Cons
GooseVPN had a promising start. On paper, they had all the makings of a star.
But the cracks started to appear once we put them through a couple of tests.
This is what we found out.
Inside Nine Eyes Agreement
The Netherlands might be known for its individualistic approach to recreational indulgences.
Unfortunately, privacy does not fall under that same umbrella.
The Netherlands can be a member of the Nine Eyes extended intelligence alliance. which means that they are legally bound to share user information online with the eight opposing members of the agreement in the interest of national security.
This would include keeping records on suspected terrorists, as detailed in the “no record” section below.
We try to clarify these points with your support representatives. But let’s say they didn’t cooperate.
Live Support actually told me that “they weren’t allowed to talk about the other VPN provider other than Goose VPN.”
Let me sum things up for you:
If you want a VPN for privacy and security, a Dutch VPN shouldn’t be at the top of your list.
Especially one who steadfastly refuses to discuss things.
Vague Registration Policy
Goose VPN confirms that they do not keep logs or user information on their site.
However, there is a confusing contradiction where they then say that “if a public body suspects that a Goose VPN user engages in criminal activity (terrorism, for example), we will maintain an online connection with this specific user.”
So would logging begin after they were alerted by this “public body”? And, if that’s the case, what level of proof would be required?
Ironically, they don’t seem to think of copyright infringement as a crime as they then go on to mention “Goose VPN is not compliant with the other organization endorsing any kind of copyright claim”.
It is strange to mention the least amount.
VirusTotal Scan Was Referring To…
A “leak” usually occurs when your browsing habits are revealed.
That is despite being connected to a VPN service.
The green connection light is on, you think you are safe, but you are actually leaking your real identity.
The problem is that this scenario is more common than you think.
Fortunately, Goose VPN doesn’t leak your DNS or IP. HEY!
- https://ipleak.net/ (none found)
- https://www.perfect-privacy.com/check-ip/ (none found)
- https://ipx.ac/run(not found)
- https://browserleaks.com/webrtc (none found)
- https://www.perfect-privacy.com/dns-leaktest/ (none found)
- http://dnsleak.com/ (none found)
We use UK servers and therefore the IP addresses we usually find on various DNS leak test sites were “OK”:
We also run the VPN installation files through VirusTotal. And the site found a virus inside the installation file!
Is it safe enough? It’s up to you…
VPN performance shouldn’t be sacrificed for security and anonymity.
You should expect to own your cake and eat it too.
So after the leak tests, we run the performance tests to determine what proportion of each VPN affects browsing speed.
We started with a 94.68 Mbps download and a 31.46 Mbps upload without a VPN.
Then we connect to a couple of different servers and see what happens. First, the US server in Texas.
U.S. Server (Texas):
- Ping: 130
- Download: 4.60 Mbps (95.1% slower)
- Upload: 15.48 Mbps (50.8% slower)
It was not an excellent start. A download speed of just 4.60 Mbps means you’re pretty much screwed up.
Let’s see if the EU server in Madrid was better.
EU Server (Madrid, Spain):
- Ping: 48
- Download: 22.58 Mbps (76.2% slower)
- Upload: 28.79 Mbps (8.5% slower)
OK not bad. But not great either.
Overall, they are available in half of all the ones we’ve reviewed at 37 out of 78.
Horrible Customer Support
Customer service is frequently contacted via email, snail mail, social media, live chat, and FAQs.
They also include a Dutch phone number, but emphasize that they do not offer any technical assistance on that number.
First, we try to send an email.
After a couple of hours with no response, we tested their live chat.
“Monica” connected almost instantly. So far, so good.
We threw a series of flash questions to see how knowledgeable (and patient) Monica was.
- She says that she does not collect records, other than those involved in criminal activity. So you really collect logs? Or did the registration of those involved in criminal activity only begin after you have been notified? Also, you say that terrorism can be a crime (which it obviously is), but you’re perfectly comfortable with torrents. Isn’t copyright infringement also a crime?
- What third-party payment service is used for MasterCard payments?
- What encryption standard is used? AES-256?
- Is Goose compatible with the Tor browser and game consoles?
- What is the maximum number of connections that may be made simultaneously?
The interaction was strange, to mention the least amount.
I’m still not sure if “Monica” was a real person or an automatic robot.
Every time I asked for a problem, it took me a long time to ask for an answer. When an answer finally came, most of it had been copied and pasted from the FAQ section.
When I asked for clarification on the main question (regarding the criminal activity log), “Monica” declined to clarify, instead of repeating word for word what was said in the FAQ.
It is not useful in the least.
Goose VPN Cost, Plans & Payment Methods
You can buy Goose VPN monthly or annually.
If you pay annually, you will get a reduction of more than 60%. That’s one of the highest annual discount percentages we’ve seen.
They even have an inexpensive restrictive monthly option of $ 2.99. On the downside, you simply get 50GB.
But it would be my sincere thanks for trying them out first before taking the plunge for the annual discount.
You can pay with MasterCard, PayPal, or with unlimited credit from a Dutch bank through iDeal (participating banks only).
You cannot pay for Goose VPN using cryptocurrency or cash. So get rid of your anonymous payments.
There’s also a 30-day money-back guarantee, plus an initial 30-day free (sort of free trial).
Another excellent opportunity to request their service for a test drive before getting stuck in a long-term deal.
Do We Recommend Goose VPN?
On paper, there was tons of love.
There are things to recommend, like Raspberry Pi support. That is quite unique.
Netflix worked quite a bit and therefore the pricing terms were reasonable.
But the wheels started to hold up pretty fast in any case.
The Netherlands is within the Nine Eyes agreement and can keep records if it is told that someone is engaging in “criminal activity”.
Except there are no real details about what meaning, how they will interpret it or perhaps impose it.
The Goose VPN software installation file is questionable.
Its VPN speeds are not good in the least.
And unfortunately, your customer support email is slow and useless.
The live chat experience makes getting your questions answered you want your teeth pulled (without the anesthesia).
In addition, they refuse to provide details on important issues, such as who is processing your Mastercard payments.
