Pros of Using HostMonster

We admit it: We tend to have high hopes for these business veterans.

They have been around the block several times and are currently in the hands of one of the largest business conglomerates (EIG). therefore, I would assume that they must have their things along.

Here’s a quick rundown of the biggest positives we’ve found:

1. Sensitive period (99.97%)

The trading average for the period is around 99.93% supporting our analysis.

HostMonster delivered an average period of 99.97% with 2 and 0.5 hour periods in the last twelve months. this means that you will trust HostMonster to keep your website up and running without fear of major outages.

The average uptime for the last 12 months:

  • December 2021: 99.99%
  • November 2021: 100%
  • October 2021: 99.98%
  • September 2021: 99.94%
  • August 2021: 99.98%
  • July 2021: 100%
  • June 2021: 99.94%
  • May 2021: 99.99%
  • April 2021: 99.95%
  • March 2021: 99.97%
  • February 2021: 99.93%
  • January 2021: 100%

2. Tight Support

HostMonster offers phone, email, and live chat support. we tend to try the latter.

HostMonster Review 2022: Features, Pricing & More!

Our live chat experience was very good. The customer service agent was connected within minutes and responded quickly (although he didn’t seem very keen to visit us).

3. Sensible security options

HostMonster offers a variety of different security options to help protect your website and keep malicious people (or programs) out of the tree.

Incredibly, the main method of hacking WordPress sites is through the vulnerability of their hosting company.

Following closely behind ‘unsafe themes’ and ‘vulnerable plugins’, it is the natural result of such a large number of different third-party tools trying to function in a very rapidly evolving environment.

HostMonster will do a decent job and will have different security measures like Hotlink Protection, SSH Access, SSL support, regular website backups, and Spam Assassin Protection.

4. Instant provisioning and quick setup

If you opt to go for their dedicated or VPS hosting, they promise instant provisioning of their servers.

That’s good news for people who needed to get started quickly (or those who settled abroad outside of the US) because you won’t have to put up with a long-drawn-out verification decision or anything like that. Instead, you should expect your servers to be up and running in seconds.

Like many alternative web hosting providers, they will also get a free name for one year with all new plans.

5. PrFairly affordable price (50GB storage, unmetered data metering, free SSL)

HostMonster’s basic setup isn’t the most affordable at $4.95/month, but you do get a reasonably reasonable price considering some of the restrictions and extras.

For starters, you get up to 50GB of storage and unmetered data right out of the box. You’ll also receive a free SSL certificate.

In addition, a free domain is attached for the first year.

6. A free WordPress website transfer

Similar to Bluehost, HostMonster recently started providing free signature migrations.

However, there is a catch.

Site migration is free for a WordPress website that matches the given criteria. In addition, the migration must be done within the first thirty days of the initial registration.

What if your website is not eligible?

In this case, you would have to pay $149.99. For that value, you’ll get five website transfers and twenty email account migrations.

7. User-friendly dashboard

When you log in to HostMonster’s shopping area, you’ll see a terribly bare interface.

From the left sidebar, you will be able to access your domains, email accounts, marketplace. From “My Sites” you will be able to login to WordPress and start managing your website.

What the control board considers, then like several alternative hosts, HostMonster also uses a cPanel.

The cPanel can be accessed through the “Advanced” button on the left sidebar. There you can manage all the problems related to hosting.

Cons of Using HostMonster

Until now, our support experience has been sensible.

We appreciate the extra attention to detail on security issues, which helps ensure your customer sites are safe and secure.

But this is where things catch the eye.

Let’s see what negatives you should be aware of before selecting your next Internet host.

1. Slow page load time in the last 12 months

HostMonster delivered an average page speed of 1060ms over the last twelve months.

Hostmonster last 12 months average speed
HostMonster Review 2022: Features, Pricing & More!

The good news?

They have shown improved speed results on a monthly basis. except for the moment, they’re still not fast enough to earn a place in our pro section.

Fast speed is essential as just a little bit, a tiny one-second delay causes success across the board:

  • 7% decrease in conversions
  • 11% decrease in pageviews
  • 16% decrease in customer satisfaction.

If you are specifically looking for fast web hosting, you may need to do A2 Hosting or InMotion.

2. Dishonorable appraisal with the long-term commitment required

HostMonster does not provide a real month-to-month setup, with minimum demand starting at twelve months.

What’s even worse: the value ($6.95) is also more expensive for this selection.

For example, if you only want the cheapest ‘promotional’ rate they show in the ranking, your goal is to sign up for up to 3 years (paid in full upfront).

That’s a big commitment to form once you have virtually no plan if you nevertheless intend to like them.

Unfortunately, this system is also a common track in the field of hosting.

3. Hidden prices and fees

Unfortunately, there are also a number of hidden prices in the method that may surprise you.

First of all, their “low” promotional rate is only available for new plans. once your configuration is renewed, the value may return to the normal (inflated) rate.

Your ‘free domain name is not free. If you choose to cancel your account, you will be charged a non-refundable fee (again, a fairly common trick within the hosting industry).

4. They charge for backups

Speaking of additional fees, there’s also a $2.99 monthly charge for backups (if you want them). Several alternative web hosting companies we’ve reviewed to date may offer this feature as a freebie, so it’s just another fee in the long list currently piling up.

5. High set renewal prices

Web hosting websites do not lie as such. they just stretch reality a bit.

Take the review page as an example. Those reduced rates look good on the first step, right? A few dollars a month probably won’t even cover your occasional bill right now.

However, only by researching the FAQs or the Terms and Conditions will you begin to remove the layers of deception.

The first common flaw is usually that you will only get those low advertised costs if you pay for a minimum of 3 years. However, we tend to go from bad to worse once you start looking at how much these plans can cost when it comes time to renew after the first few years.

HostMonster renewal pricing doubles after the first term.

HostMonster’s “cheap” monthly rates can double in the blink of an eye, going from $4.95/mo minimum to nearly twelve dollars for the exact same service. The larger, Choice and Professional plans increase even more dramatically, accounting for premium costs for a comparatively basic offering at the end of the day.

So if you don’t look desperate to switch hosts again in a few years, it’s probably worth investing a few extra bucks and getting the best price in the long run.

Do We Recommend HostMonster?

Not really.

HostMonster’s performance is pretty average across the board, to be honest.

Their customer support and time frame are tight and we are glad to see that they currently offer free website migration for WordPress sites.

But HostMonster fails our speed tests and that’s a big concern, as a “functional” website is kind of a must here.

Then you have the difficulty of all-too-common valuation tricks, which aren’t as good as advertised once you start adding up all the extra fees and charges over time.

Simply put – there are better hosts available for your money.
