IVPN (review) was founded in 2009 in Gibraltar. the full name is Privatus Limited.
IVPN seems to have a reputation for really valued privacy, which is why I used to want to determine if it really is a secure VPN provider.
Most VPN providers claim that they “don’t log” your data. Just to display and record it for your own personal reasons.
Sometimes they even go so far as to sell your data to outside advertisers.
It’s not cool.
In this IVPN review, I’ll discover the answers to those questions and more.
I’ll even define the pros and cons of this VPN service, allowing you to recognize if it is worth the investment.
But first, who is IVPN as a corporation, anyway?

Quick Background Check on IVPN
The general appearance of the IVPN website appears legitimate.
Its color theme seems to be based on a clean white tone with red accents, which really caught my eye.
Their site’s home page also featured an illustration of what appeared to be the beginning of an octopus from a laptop.
I guess this creative cartoon is supposed to point out that anyone can swipe their data if they’re browsing without a VPN.
This is what the IVPN home page looks like:
It has an amazing design. It seems that IVPN really values the overall appearance of its brand.
On its website, the company describes itself as follows:
I really love that IVPN says they don’t require any personal information from users to sign up for their service.
But this statement does not give me the full scope of their services.
Do you keep records of users? Is it allowed to download torrents?
Before we get to that, let’s take a look at the general reputation of IVPN around the globe.
To be honest, I wasn’t ready to find a lot of negative IVPN statements online.
In fact, BGR praised the company in 2014 for the interactive map they created as visible to global internet censorship.
The article praises IVPN for drawing attention to global cyber oppression.
According to the post:
“The map uses a variety of criteria to differentiate the extent of censorship that affects a specific nation, and the issues are divided into four main categories:” human rights violations “,” internet freedom “,” barriers to access “and” limits meet. “
This is what the IVPN map looks like:
I really love this creation of the company, because it shows how committed they really are to the fight for freedom and privacy on the internet. They are simply a VPN provider.
And there are many people who recommend IVPN for users who wish to remain anonymous.
A WilderSecurity.com user named “Lockdown” said:
“If you want reliable encryption, NordVPN will be fine. What you want reliable anonymity, then Mullvad or IVPN. If you want to have all the features then IVPN. Choose the one you want the most. “
One of the reasons why IVPN tends to be so private with user information is perhaps the reason why the company is located in Gibraltar.
The Data Protection Act 2004 keeps the private information of the citizens of Gibraltar safe and obliges companies to respect user information.
It also allows people to request the information collected about them. in accordance with the Gibraltar regulatory agency,
“The law applies whenever a corporation processes (for example, stores, collects, transmits, uses, etc.) information that relates to an individual such as a person’s name, date of birth, hobbies, comments on their performance, location, etc. “
This makes the world a great location for a VPN company, as the country truly values protecting its citizens’ information.
Before we mention IVPN prices and speeds, let’s discuss the features of the service.
IVPN Features and Compatibility
IVPN boasts no logs, no leaks, fast multi-hop servers, and more, on its home page.
The company also has apps for many different devices.
The VPN service is compatible with the following devices and operating systems:
IVPN works simultaneously on up to five devices. That’s a reasonably impressive feature of their service, especially compared to some competitors who may only offer you two or three at the most.
I’ll break down the prices below so you understand exactly how each plan works.
When it comes to routers, you would like a VPN that connects without a hitch. This forms a protective umbrella around your entire home. Rather than having to worry about fixing IVPNs on all the devices in your home, configuring a router to align with the VPN ensures that every device connected to the wireless network is protected. meaning your computers, phones, gaming systems, smart TVs, and anything else connected to the home’s WIFI is anonymous and secure.
You can connect IVPN to the following types of routers:
IVPN is pre-installed and configured on the Vilfo router. To browse anonymously after fixing the router, enter your IVPN username and password.
To learn more about how Vilfo and IVPN work together, click here.
IVPN offers detailed guides for each router (and device or operating system).
This VPN only provides 39 servers spanning just 28 countries.
That’s one of the lowest points I’ve seen from all VPN providers, and it means they only added one server and one country in the last six months. The only country that has a server is that the US is 12 different servers spread across the country. All the other nations listed only have one, which is disappointing.
You want multiple servers in many of the larger countries, such as the UK, Canada, China, and Russia. If you simply have a server in these high-traffic areas, you will see tons of outages if that server goes down. Instead of forcing users to select a server in another part of the UK, the country will be unavailable if something were to happen to their only London server.
IVPN has been around for a full 10 years so I was expecting more.
The company offers a built-in firewall that acts as a “kill switch.” They even claim that it is safer than a standard one.
Circuit breakers are essential to keep your information private and safe while browsing online.
Kill switches literally kill your browsing session if your internet goes offline, keeping your activity completely private.
I am pleased that IVPN offers a built-in firewall to act as a kill switch, especially when some vendors don’t offer one in the slightest.
IVPN also offers IPv6 and DNS leak protection.
At this time, they only offer OpenVPN and IPSec / IKEv2 support.
That is good and bad. It’s good because they are the latest and greatest security protocols, offering state-of-the-art AES-256 encryption. Generally speaking, you simply want to use these options if you have the choice. But it’s bad because they don’t offer older methods like PPTP or L2TP, which makes this VPN practically incompatible with older devices or slow networks.
Now, re-evaluate the ratio of this VPN backing you up.
IVPN Cost & Plans (not the cheapest)
IVPN offers a 7-day money-back guarantee out of the box.
This is great if you buy an idea and choose that it is not for you. you will test your service, knowing in the back of your mind that there is still a way to request a refund if things don’t work out.
Even better, they provide a three-day free trial (similar to VyprVPN). That way, you will test the service without fully committing to the company.
So there are two ways to try to take a test drive without losing your money.
IVPN provides packages on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
When I checked their plans and pricing, the company was also offering a 40% anniversary discount.
Here’s how each package is broken down:
This works out to $ 180 per year. This plan is billed monthly. Choose this feature if you are testing them. But in the long run, you’ll want to switch to a special one to save a lot more.
This comes in doubled $ 160 per year. This plan is billed in conjunction with the payment of $ 40 quarterly.
This comes at just $ 100 per year, so it’s clearly the best-priced plan. This package is billed in conjunction with the payment of $ 100 every 12 months. It’s an excellent deal.
Payment methods include credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, Bitcoin, and cash payments. In fact, I love the cash payment option.
IVPN, on the other hand, does not accept American Express or any other prepaid card.
I would recommend trying the free trial version of IVPN first. If you find that you simply love the service, choose the annual plan to get the most out of your investment.
IVPN is extremely competitively priced and I think it is a good price considering all the features you will have access to.
Plus, the company offers a seven-day money-back guarantee AND a three-day free trial, so you have nothing to lose.
Now that you simply know all about IVPN’s features, plans, and pricing, I’m going to outline the pros and cons of their service.
IVPN has some wonderful features. I used to be very happy to find that your claims of valuing privacy are literally true.
I’m going to start by describing what I think the company is doing well.
Good Encryption and Security
IVPN may not have many servers. But you can be sure that the servers they offer are extremely safe and personal.
Is it Well Encrypted?
According to the IVPN website, they use AES-256 encryption with RSA 4096-bit keys.
“New encryption keys are generated every hour, providing a perfect direct secret”
This is top-of-the-line security, on par with military standards. It is unbreakable. No one has been willing to defeat him with a brute force attack, either.
You can definitely entrust your data to IVPN.
Is it allowed to download torrents?
It is allowed to download torrents with IVPN. This is excellent news for anyone looking to download or stream large data files.
IVPN claims to keep absolutely no records of your data.
But most say that. How can you be sure?
The good news is, it’s like they don’t even collect cookies. so that they do not sell your information to third parties.
“We don’t store any connection logs at all. Also, we do not log bandwidth usage, session data, or requests on our DNS servers. “
The only thing they will store is your username, password, and payment information (on their encrypted servers).
But to be honest, this is usually pretty standard.
IVPN is easy to use and install
The IVPN download takes a few minutes. the location claims that installing a windows client will take three minutes, but honestly, I don’t think it took that long once the actual download started.
However, the download was difficult to find.
After signing up for my free trial, it sent me to a setup page where I had to decide what devices I might be using.
I chose Windows and waited for the download to begin. That isn’t how it went down. Instead, it directed users to a non-functional page with no content. I went to the support section and looked for IVPN for Windows to set up.
This sent me to an information page that also didn’t have a download link. It took me a couple of minutes to click through the site before I finally found the Windows IVPN client. I clicked the download button and it started right away.
I accepted the User License Agreement and therefore the actual installation was recorded in 21 seconds. The VPN client opened immediately.
I mistakenly thought that my email address used in registration would be my username, so I couldn’t understand why my login information was not working. Then I realized that a randomly generated username had been emailed to me. I entered that information and will log in with the password that I created initially.
Once I logged in, I was pleasantly surprised by the customer dashboard. it had been surprisingly simple in its design with a huge button right in the center that would connect to the service.
I was automatically connected to a New Jersey-based server. It was the fastest server available at the time. Once I was online, switching between servers was simple. At the bottom of the IVPN client, you’ll see a list of the servers to which you’re connected.
IVPN will connect your new server after you select it. It’s a straightforward and efficient procedure.
There is a settings area in the lower-left corner where you will select your preferences.
There is even a way to enable logging, which is not recommended if you are trying to remain anonymous.
Overall, I would give it an 8/10 for usability.
The interface is one of the simplest I’ve seen in the VPN game. I really like the comfort of use. I wish it had been easier to find the Windows client download.
Fast and friendly customer support
IVPN offers live chat customer support. To access it, simply click on the online support section at the bottom right of your website.
Then once the window pops up, just type your message. You will receive the name of your customer service representative, along with their email. Here’s the one I sent.
John answered my question in just three minutes. He was kind and quick to answer all the questions I asked him.
I love that its live chat feature offers a real human being to talk to.
In addition, they need a huge knowledge base that you can search for frequently asked questions.
US servers worked with Netflix
When it comes to Netflix, VPNs walk the virtual tightrope. Netflix hates using VPNs and works diligently to block access to its extensive video library for anyone connected to a VPN.
Originally, Netflix and VPNs were a perfect match. Since all Netflix content is geo-blocked, different countries have access to different shows. for example, Netflix users in the UK have access to The Fresh Prince of Belair and thus the explosion theory. Someone watching Netflix within the US cannot access those shows.
In the past, this was an easy matter. You connect with a VPN, turn on a server in the UK, and you’d be watching Will Smith engage in delightful shenanigans at Uncle Phil’s Belair mansion.
Netflix realized this faster than anyone would have liked. In response to those attempts to undermine its strict geo-blocking, the streaming giant entered the industry with some of the most advanced VPN detection software in the world. Mostly it works like a charm.
Many of the VPNs we found have no luck unblocking Netflix. In fact, once we tested IVPN for the first time, we checked five different servers within the following areas:
- United States: New York
- United States: California
- United Kingdom
- Hong Kong
None of them were successful in playing Netflix content. But then fast forward to July 2019 once I rechecked them all. I was expecting to run into an error, but once I connected to the server in New York, something surprising happened.
Parks and Recreation immediately lit up, and I was staring in disbelief at the deputy director of parks, Leslie Knope, at a conference among the citizens of fictional Pawnee Indiana.
I connected to the California server.
Another great success!
I was able to connect to a server in Canada.
That was the end of my luck.
Netflix has blocked all opposing servers, but being able to watch Netflix content from the United States can be a huge plus.
Netflix teamed with:
- United States: New York
- United States: California
Netflix Didn’t Coordinate With:
- United Kingdom
- Hong Kong
No Leaks Detected
A VPN can be sunk by DNS and WebRTC leaks. Even a no-log VPN service, without questionable district policy, and blazing fast speeds are often rendered useless if there are leaks.
A WebRTC leak occurs when the open-source real-time web communication tool bypasses its encrypted tunnel. It was developed to facilitate better peer-to-peer connections in real-time, but it presents a security risk for VPN users.
When a DNS leak occurs, your original IP is revealed to your Internet Service Provider through a security flaw that discovers DNS requests.
This is why we confirm that each of the VPNs we review undergoes an in-depth testing process. Each of them undergoes a series of 5 tests aimed at eliminating any troublesome leaks.
IVPN passed with great success, obtaining an ideal score in each test we pass. you’ll have peace of mind knowing that this is often a leak-free system that will back up your safety claims.
IVPN is private and secure.
They have a tremendous “no logging” policy and their encryption is military grade.
But no VPN provider is ideal.
These are some of the biggest drawbacks to using your service.
Slow Charge Speed
The most obvious concerns with a VPN provider are privacy and security.
However, you may need to consider performance.
What good is rock-solid encryption if your connection gets too slow to use?
I put IVPN’s speeds to the test to find out if their speeds are literally on par.
I ran speed tests on IVPN servers in the US, Netherlands, and Hong Kong to determine how they stack up against the competition.
Here are my results:
- Ping: 178 ms
- Download: 32.20 Mbps
- Upload: 18.66 Mbps
- Ping: 38 ms
- Download: 63.89 Mbps
- Upload: 17.66 Mbps
Hong Kong Server
- Ping: 341 ms
- Download: 17.66 Mbps
- Upload: 0.94 Mbps
Some of those speeds are pretty decent. However, the latter is among the slowest I’ve tried.
Overall performance was too hit or miss to recommend.
Conclusion – Recommended or not?
Unfortunately, I don’t recommend using IVPN. IVPN is not terrible, per se. However, it’s not great either. Here’s a quick summary:
What’s good about IVPN?
- IVPN features strong encryption, a firewall that acts as a kill switch, and leak protection.
- They keep absolutely no records, other than what is necessary to keep the service operational, such as account passwords. I loved this fact.
- You can use up to five devices simultaneously without having to pay more for an idea and therefore the features are equivalent on all plans.
- A seven-day money-back guarantee is also available, as well as a free trial option. On IVPN servers, torrent downloads are also permitted.
- The quality of IVPN customer service is decent.
- US servers unblocked Netflix.
- There were no DNS leaks or WebRTC leaks present.
What’s wrong with IVPN?
- Too few servers
- Performance was quite slow
- Non-US servers were not working with Netflix. That was a bummer.
- It was difficult to search for a download link once I purchased the service.
Overall, IVPN scores 70/100. That’s pretty good, to be honest. However, it is not the simplest I have seen. If you’re trying to find a VPN with much better performance, take a look at our best VPNs here.
