LiquidVPN Pros +

LiquidVPN came out impeccably clean within the quantitative portion of our review.

That means you won’t expect leaks or viruses. And pretty decent speeds.

Check it.

1. There were no leaks or viruses discovered.

VPNs don’t always do what they say.

EVERYONE is alleged to hide your location from your Internet Service Provider (ISP), aggressive government oversight, and even the websites you visit.

But that is not always the case.

Some VPNs are vulnerable to DNS leaks that disclose your true location, right under your nose.

Your app could tell you Paris, France.

While your ISP can clearly see that you are at your home in Cleveland, Ohio.

However, don’t worry about LiquidVPN.

You’ll be relieved to learn that LiquidVPN passed all six DNS leak checks with flying colors. As a result, you’ll be able to tell people that you’re simply at your holiday home in the south of France. It all begins with the hashtag #humblebrags.

We just changed our IP address to the US and this worked:

At this point, we usually have to add a major “BUT” to the discussion.

We exclaimed, “Everything looked so fine!” We exclaimed, “The picture was so rosy.”

Then we go through all of the viruses that were discovered within the VPN installation files.

But you will even be pleasantly surprised to hear that LiquidVPN came back completely clean, due to VirusTotal.

Hurrah!

2. Servers with Reasonable Speeds

The added security and privacy that a VPN offer comes at a price.

Your connection speed is always successful.

The trick is to strike a balance. Can your VPN offer decent performance without sacrificing security?

That is what we look for in every speed test. We start by getting a reading on our non-VPN connection.

Speedtest.net recorded a download speed of 97.00 Mbps and an upload speed of 53.00 Mbps. It’s actually very nice.

The process is then repeated by connecting to a few separate LiquidVPN servers.

Let’s start with a tour of the New York-based US server.

US server speed
Article: LiquidVPN Review In 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

US Server:

  • Ping: 189
  • Download: 74.40 Mbps (23.3% slower)
  • Upload: 19.04 Mbps (64.8% slower)

The download speed is quite good. The loading speed is not that good.

That doesn’t put them among the fastest VPNs we’ve reviewed, but that’s okay.

Let’s give them another chance by connecting to a server in the Netherlands across the pond.

EU server speed
Article: LiquidVPN Review In 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

EU Server (Netherlands):

  • Ping: 39
  • Download: 46.66 Mbps (51.9% slower)
  • Upload: 38.66 Mbps (27.6% slower)

Surprisingly, the results were almost reversed. The upload speed is satisfactory, but the download speed is average.

We’ll grant them permission to be consistent across the board.

Don’t hold your breath for miracles. It will, however, wait for stability.

3. Supports AES-128 or AES-256 encryption for 5 VPN protocols

OpenVPN, SSTP, PPTP, OpenConnect, and L2TP / IPSEC are among the five VPN tunnelling protocols supported by LiquidVPN.

In most instances, however, you can stick with the default OpenVPN protocol.
Your protocol options depend on a variety of things, including your use case or device and the quality of the network. And OpenVPN generally offers you the simplest of both worlds.

LiquidVPN also offers the option to change the ciphers. it will persist with bank-grade AES-256, or drop slightly to AES-128.

Why would you knowingly want to downgrade security encryption?

See the last point: Speed.

AES-128 is still secure, but it doesn’t consume as many resources either. which means that if you are connected to a reliable network, you may want to reduce a couple of percentage points for the sake of performance.

4. Customer service is prompt and courteous.

Your experience is always made or broken by the customer service you get.

It’s important to stay healthy. It is important to act quickly. In his darkest hour, though, a bad customer service representative will leave a lasting impression.

This is why, before making a recommendation, we test each VPN’s customer service department.

We communicate via live chat or email, rating them both on speed and quality.

LiquidVPN took about an hour to respond to our email, which is pretty good. We receive emails days before we receive a reply.

His answers were concise but sufficient. Each was in line with the question, so I knew exactly what they were answering:

5. Netflix worked for all five of the servers.

Years ago, you wouldn’t have bothered to try to watch geo-blocked Netflix content, for example.

But today, that is getting pretty weird.

Many VPNs we’ve tested either don’t work or don’t support Netflix streaming. Others claim they are doing a job, only to be proven wrong once we test different servers.

LiquidVPN initially confirmed that each of its US servers allows Netflix. Customer service even assured us:

And surely, all five of the 5 servers managed to unblock Netflix.

That definitely puts LiquidVPN in contention among the simplest VPNs for Netflix streaming.

LiquidVPN also works with the Tor browser.

6. Torrenting is permitted on all servers.

Downloading torrents means many things to many people.

And it can put you in a tough spot if you use it to circumvent copyright.

This is why some VPNs will completely block torrents on their servers. They don’t want to risk getting into potential legal battles.

Some VPN providers restrict torrenting to separate servers. This could be a concern if there aren’t enough or if any are on the verge of leaving.

Fortunately, LiquidVPN offers unrestricted access. will use torrents on any of its servers without limitations.

LiquidVPN Cons –

We appreciate that LiquidVPN did not leak or include any viruses. Its speed was decent and customer service was relatively quick.

But its location in the US is concerning. And there have been a couple more problems that we saw.

Here’s a quick look.

logging policy
Article: LiquidVPN Review In 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

1. Collect Few Logs

Truth be told, most VPNs will log your data.

Ideally, it’s just basic data to watch your service performance or weed out bad actors.

Here’s what we find in the fine print of LiquidVPN’s terms of service:

Let’s analyze this.

The good news is that they reportedly don’t collect your browsing history or session data. However, the bad news is that they will track once you log in and log out, and how many active sessions you are using on a single occasion.

That’s not cool.

The goal of using a VPN is to avoid leaving traces. And that’s pretty much what it usually is.

Especially once your jurisdiction is taken into consideration.

2. Is it a signatory to the Five Eyes Security Treaty?

At the peak of the day, a VPN is only as trustworthy as its government.

Almost everyone admits they voluntarily hand over data when court orders knock on their door.

And that’s a problem for LiquidVPN.

Let’s be honest:

The US intelligence agencies are not exactly shy. That has been proven once or twice.

The problem is, the US is also a founding member of the first 5 Eyes security alliance. Decades ago, they partnered with Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia to gather intelligence.

Since then, part “5” has been expanded to “14”. which suggests that many more potential partners could get their dirty hands on your stuff when the CIA or FBI calls you.

Because once they do, there is literally nothing to stop them.

3. Expensive Connections

LiquidVPN only offers two simultaneous connections on its cheapest plan.

You can access up to eight connections. But it’s really costing you.

These month-to-month plans start at $ 7 / month for the most profitable. and therefore the eight devices will cost you $ 18!

That’s crazy, to be honest.

You can reduce this number by taking a step in the annual commitment. But still.

That’s almost twice as much as most businesses charge for five months on their monthly contracts.

4. Limited Country based Servers

Unfortunately, most VPNs will be on their servers.

They will exaggerate the particular number. They will claim certain locations, just to attach them to another location. And they often rent access to third-party companies.

All that said, in general, you still want to travel with a VPN provider that offers more servers. And not a limited one like LiquidVPN, which only offers access to 11 countries.

This is why.

The performance of your connection will be limited by the space between you and therefore the VPN server.

So if you are in a remote location, or if your VPN does not offer extensive support across all continents, you are posing a problem.

Your speed will almost always suffer and it is not much you can do about it. (Except to decide on another provider).

The second problem you will encounter is server saturation.

VPN companies invest in offering a certain number of servers. That is a difficult and fast expense.

Your ROI increases by limiting that number while increasing the number of consumers who will enter.

But if the ratio gets too unbalanced, the customer experience is lost.

Too many of us try to absorb some or all of the resources.

And once again, the speed is going downhill.

Leaving you, paying the customer, to affect the results.

5. Unfriendly User Interface

Our entire experience with LiquidVPN was disappointing.

First of all, the interface left a lot to be desired.

LiquidVPN server connections
Article: LiquidVPN Review In 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

But that wasn’t even the worst part.

The customer will not process our login information correctly. (We verify the username and password several times.)

Once we were finally ready to log in, we were unable to connect to a server. We tried different ones, finally, we decided on an LA for this attempt. But we had to pack and reboot several times before connecting successfully.

LiquidVPN doesn't connect to LA server

And there was misleading information that would hurt non-technical customers.

Support from LiquidVPN said that they would “support any computer that connects to a VPN.”

Isn’t it a little hazy?

But here’s the thing: Here’s the thing:

They don’t even have a VPN client for mobile devices yet. that implies that you’ll have to come up with a way to use it on your computer.

no mobile VPN client

They have a kill button to protect your privacy even more. It is, however, only for desktop computers.

In the first place, mobile is one of the most popular uses for a kill switch!

Your mobile settings will automatically connect to known WiFi hotspots. But if those drops suddenly, it will connect to another or its data plan will be activated.

Without a kill switch, the network change will reveal your browsing session data and IP address in either case.

To make it function on the desktop, you’ll just need to go to the download section and find a.bat script. As a result, the less tech-savvy individuals are left to dry.

6. Compatibility with Native Devices Is Limited

Only native applications for Windows, Android, and Mac are available from LiquidVPN.

As a result, iPhone and iPad users are out of luck. Instead, they’ll have to use the OpenVPN Connect software and adjust a few advanced settings before using it.

That also means there are no native settings for routers, Smart TVs, or game consoles. Again, you will need alternative solutions.

LiquidVPN recommends routers with DD-WRT firmware and offers you an installation video tutorial to customize the settings yourself.

However, they work with Tor. great news for activists or journalists looking to double down on their privacy and escape retaliation.

LiquidVPN Cost, Plans & Payment Methods

LiquidVPN cost plans
Article: LiquidVPN Review In 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

I’ll go straight out and say it:

LiquidVPN month-to-month plans are incredibly expensive, from $ 7 to $ 18 / month.

Honestly, don’t bother. You will never find them in the top ten cheapest VPNs that we have reviewed. Needless to say.

Annual plans reduce this to the range of $ 4.75 / month to $ 8.83 / month. But those price levels still stack with the monthly prices on most other VPN services.

And if you remember, all you’ll get for that great plan maybe a few extra hookups.

Assuming the costs haven’t scared you off, you’ll be using common credit or debit cards, PayPal, Bitcoin, and surprisingly, cash to purchase this app.

Interestingly, their address page says not to send cash to their primary address. Instead, you will need to undergo this:

cash payment address
Article: LiquidVPN Review In 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

Unlike others, there is no free trial period in the slightest.

They offer a 7-day money-back guaranteed refund if you are not satisfied. However, not if you pay in cash or with Bitcoin. I guess that’s the payoff for trying to pay anonymously.

Do We Recommend LiquidVPN?

No, we will not.

LiquidVPN isn’t that bad on the surface.

They came in 31st out of 78 in our overall ranking. His speed results came in 21st.

But there are tons of questionable drawbacks, starting with:

  • They are based in the US, which suggests they are within the Five Eyes deal.
  • They collect some records, some of which could be seen as a compromising touch if a government required them.
  • There is no built-in default kill switch. There is a script to try to do this, but no technophobe is going to touch that.
  • They are very expensive compared to equivalent functions in other companies.
  • You only get two measly simultaneous connections on the most profitable plan.

And its limited number of servers in multiple countries will be a turnoff for most outside of the USA.
Sure, they’re working fine with Netflix US.

If that’s your primary target, however, there are several other Netflix VPN choices to consider.
