Malwarebytes Review In 2023: Features, Pricing & More!

Malwarebytes Review: Quick Expert Summary

Malwarebytes is a minimalist, easy-to-use antivirus program that provides smart malware protection, but it doesn’t have many of the vital protections that simpler 2023 antiviruses include in their plans.

During my test, it detected ninety-five of the malware files I had previously downloaded onto my device, which could be a pretty smart result. In terms of time protection, it successfully blocked ninety-eight of the malware files, that’s great.

Malwarebytes also offers a handful of additional options. I like Browser Guard, a free web security browser extension that blocks trackers, pop-up ads, phishing sites, and exploit attacks. And users can also upgrade to the Malwarebytes Premium + Privacy setup, which comes with a secure VPN. It’s an honest choice for online activity, but it lacks many of the features and functionality found in standalone VPN competition.

Malwarebytes lacks several of the essential features I should look into in an extremely premium web security suite (such as a firewall, data breach watcher, device optimization tools, parental controls, and a probation manager), however, it is an honest alternative for United users. The national agency needs an easy antivirus without many extras. However, with competitors providing more antivirus protection along with additional options (and for a similar price), it’s hard for me to wholeheartedly recommend Malwarebytes.

While Malwarebytes isn’t as good as major competitors like Norton and Bitdefender, it’s affordable, offers a 14-day free trial, and offers a generous 60-day money-back guarantee on all premium plans.

Malwarebytes Review

Malwarebytes has all the basic security features I’ve expected from a partner antivirus program, including temporary malware protection, ransomware protection, and network protection.

But unlike a lot of its competitors, Malwarebytes hardly offers any extra options, like a firewall, system tuning tools, a probation manager, or parental controls.

Malwarebytes’ main plan will include a VPN, but competing brands like TotalAV, Norton, or Bitdefender offer better VPNs, along with a wider range of additional options.

That said, if you’re trying to find a fundamental, essential antivirus that provides intelligent protection against malware, Malwarebytes is a great option at a low price.

Malwarebytes Security Features

Virus Scanner

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Virus Scanner
Malwarebytes Review

Malwarebytes’ virus scanner is incredibly smart, providing on-demand scans as well as temporary protection to block the vast majority of malware on Windows and waterproof devices.

Its scanner uses malware information to find malware on your system and heuristic analysis to flag new malware files that have not yet been complementary to your information.

Malwarebytes has four completely different virus scans that you can choose from:

  • Threat analysis. It scans key areas of your device’s system, memory, and startup programs.
  • Quick analysis. It scans your memory and startup programs for active infections.
  • Personalized analysis. Scan any file or folder you want (including the entire drive).
  • Single file/folder scanning. Scan a private file.

It is important to note that Malwarebytes does not have a default full system scan, so if you want to screen your entire system for malware, you should use the custom scan and choose your C: drive from the available options.

Threat Scan

During my tests, Threat Scan only took one minute and twenty-six seconds to scan over three hundred thousand files on my device. this is often reminiscent of the competition’s quick scan options, which sometimes take between one and five minutes.

Before installing Malwarebytes on my Windows device, I downloaded about 1,000 malicious files (viruses, Trojans, spyware, etc.) on my test laptop. Once Malwarebytes completed the Threat Scan, it found around seventy-six of the files. However, the full disk scan detected 95% of the malware (although it took about three hours, which is quite a long time for a full disk scan). While this is usually a decent score, competitors like Norton or Bitdefender have an ideal malware detection rate of 100%.

Overall, Malwarebytes has an associated industry average detection rate of around ninety-five, that’s pretty smart. A threat Scan could be a possibility.

Real-Time Protection

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Real-Time Protection
Malwarebytes Review

Malwarebytes Term Protection (available only on paid plans) includes four completely different layers of protection:

  • Protection against malware and PUPs.
  • Web protection (PC only).
  • Ransomware protection (PC only).
  • Exploit protection (PC only).

Malwarebytes’ vintage malware protection performed very well in my tests, successfully interfering with ninety-eight of the malware I tried to transfer to my device.

This is an excellent result that most premium antiviruses admire: Malwarebytes blocked worms, viruses, Trojans, and even web-based exploit attacks before they had a chance to make changes to my test laptop.

I also like Malwarebytes’ network protection and exploit protection options – These tools add the background despite the browser you’re mistreating and will block phishing attacks even as malicious network scripts try to hack into your computer through your browser. In my tests, network protections blocked many more phishing attacks and exploits than Chrome or Mozilla’s built-in protections.

However, Malwarebytes’ ransomware protection isn’t as good as its alternative temporary protections. I used a ransomware engine to see if Malwarebytes could detect and block the ransomware, and Malwarebytes only secured a small fraction of the ransomware files on my device. Once I used the constant machine on Norton, McAfee, and Bitdefender all ransomware simulations were instantly blocked.

In general, Malwarebytes’ ransomware protection requires some work, but the temporary antivirus protection and network protection area unit is on par with the simplest antiviruses on the market.

Browser Guard

Malwarebytes’ Browser Guard is a free browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox that will do a good job of interfering with phishing sites, but it doesn’t work well as an associate-grade ad blocker.

The plugin offers defense against phishing schemes, trackers, pop-up advertising, malware, and PUPs.
Browser Guard is incredibly easy to use as all units in the protection area are enabled by default and there is nothing else you need to try to do. However, if you prefer to postpone the limited layers of protection, for example, if it recognizes a website as safe but the extension blocks the necessary pop-ups, it will simply turn all protections on or off.

During my test, I visited forty popular phishing sites and Browser Guard blocked thirty-six, a hit rate of ninetieth, which is pretty reasonable.

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Browser Guard
Malwarebytes Review

Because Malwarebytes claims that Browser Guard will make your browser run four times faster thanks to blocked ads and unwanted alternative content, I also tested the extension on ad-ridden sites. However, Browser Guard didn’t block all ads on these websites: It blocked about a third of ads on most sites I visited while competing brands like Avira blocked most ads on consistent sites.

Overall, Browser Guard is not an honest ad blocker, however, it is effective at detecting phishing sites.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 VPN (Virtual Private Network)
Malwarebytes Review

The Malwarebytes Premium + Privacy arrangement comes with Malwarebytes Privacy, a secure VPN that has some pretty sensible privacy protections, including:

  • More than three hundred servers in thirty countries. This is often an honest range of locations for a VPN that comes with associate-grade antivirus: Norton and TotalAV each offer roughly thirty server locations, while VIPRE’s VPN offers more than eighty (but the VIPRE virus protection is not very good).
  • WireGuard Protocol – This is typically one of the fastest and most secure protocols offered by various independent VPNs like ExpressVPN and CyberGhost VPN.
  • Strict no logs policy. Malwarebytes does not log or store user information, including browsing history or association logs.

Malwarebytes Vpn Does Not Include a Kill Switch

A kill switch shuts down your network association in the event your VPN association fails. This is usually a very important VPN feature, and antivirus competitors like Bitdefender and Kaspersky offer a kill switch with their VPNs. So it’s often something I’d love to see Malwarebytes incorporate into their VPN as well.

However, Malwarebytes Privacy has tight association speeds. To assess their speeds, I first ran a speed test without the VPN. Then ran another test once I was connected to a local server.

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 VPN (Virtual Private Network)

As you can see, my connection speeds were slowed down — this is to be expected with any VPN, but I was disappointed to see my download speed cut to one-fifth of its original speed. By comparison, ExpressVPN only cuts download speeds in half when connecting to servers on another continent.

Using Malwarebytes’s VPN, I was unable to access popular streaming sites like Netflix. If you’re looking for a good streaming VPN, I recommend an antivirus+VPN bundle like TotalAV or standalone competitors like ExpressVPN or Private Internet Access.

Malwarebytes’s VPN doesn’t support torrenting. Malwarebytes is based in the US, so the company is subject to The Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Users that download copyrighted torrents are at risk of having their accounts disabled and/or terminated.

Malwarebytes’s VPN also doesn’t work in restricted countries. If you’re looking for a good VPN to bypass firewalls in countries with internet censorship, I recommend ExpressVPN.

Overall, Malwarebytes’s VPN is basic and there are better options out there. While it has some nice advanced features, like the WireGuard protocol, Malwarebytes’s VPN isn’t able to access streaming services, doesn’t allow torrenting, and is unable to bypass internet restrictions in high-risk countries. But if you’re only interested in hiding your online activity and staying anonymous online, Malwarebytes’s VPN is a decent option.

Malwarebytes Plans & Pricing

Malwarebytes offers three plans:

All Malwarebytes paid plans come with a risk-free 60-day money-back guarantee (same as Norton). This can be quite generous compared to most competitors, who sometimes only provide a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Malwarebytes also offers a lock-in rate: if you choose to automatically renew your subscription. The value of your next renewal will be similar to the initial price you paid (even if costs have increased). This is something not many other antivirus brands do, making it a very good deal from Malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes Free — Decent Option for Virus Removal

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Malwarebytes Free — Decent Option for Virus Removal
Malwarebytes Review

Malwarebytes Free only includes the on-demand malware scanner and the Browser Guard extension. I only advise this decision to users who are looking for a quick way to remove existing Associate in Nursing malware infections from their devices.

However, if you want stand-alone protection, Malwarebytes Free is not suitable as it has no time protection. While most free antiviruses aren’t that smart. There are competitors like Avira Free that include round-the-clock malware protection and extra options like system tuning tools and a VPN. therefore, if you want a free antivirus, there are better options.

That said, I appreciate that Malwarebytes Free comes with a 14-day free trial of Malwarebytes Premium. So you can check out all the premium options risk-free.

Malwarebytes Premium — Strong Antivirus Protection

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Malwarebytes Premium — Strong Antivirus Protection
Malwarebytes Review

Malwarebytes Premium offers malware scanning, time protection, and also the Browser Guard extension. With this fix, it will hide on five devices, plus Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.

The protection period alone is worth upgrading to a premium from the free plan. With temporary protection, you get additional layers of protection against online scams, phishing, ransomware, and PUPs, and exploit attacks that use code bugs to hack into your computer.

At $39.99/year, Malwarebytes Premium might be a bit cheaper than big competitors like Norton or Bitdefender, however, they each have higher malware detection rates, stronger phishing protection, and plenty of other options.

While Malwarebytes Premium is not as good as the best antivirus code in 2023, it is an honest option for users looking for a simple yet effective web security solution. Malwarebytes offers a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Malwarebytes Premium + Privacy — Antivirus With a VPN

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Malwarebytes Premium + Privacy — Antivirus With a VPN
Malwarebytes Review

Malwarebytes’ most expensive setup includes all the features of its Premium setup and a VPN. This is often an honest solution for users who want to combine Malwarebytes’ strong anti-virus and anti-phishing protection with a reliable VPN. However, Malwarebytes VPN doesn’t work with streaming sites, doesn’t support torrenting, or adds countries with web censorship. If you’re trying to find an honest VPN for streaming, torrenting, and bypassing firewalls and censorship, I’d highly recommend ExpressVPN.

Overall, at $99.99/year, Malwarebytes Premium + Privacy is more expensive than higher-end antivirus competitors that offer far more options. For example, Norton 360 Deluxe offers temporary malware protection, network protection, firewall, VPN, password manager, fraud protection, 10GB cloud storage, and more, for just $49.99/year. At $36.00/year, Bitdefender Total Security is also more affordable than Malwarebytes, and Bitdefender offers a lot more options than most alternative brands.

But if you’re curious about Malwarebytes, check out the antivirus and VPN with a 60-day money-back guarantee and see whether or not it’s the right pick for you.

Malwarebytes Ease of Use & Setup

Installation, configuration, and victimization of Malwarebytes are very easy: it took the US state only a few minutes to transfer and find the software system, and I had no problem victimizing all the options provided.

One thing I appreciate is that Malwarebytes doesn’t ask you to provide any personal data to activate the free trial. Most of the competitors get your email address or maybe master card type, therefore I extremely prefer that Malwarebytes offer a no-obligation free trial.

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Malwarebytes Ease of Use & Setup
Malwarebytes Review

Malwarebytes’ interface is clean, simple, and easy to navigate. selecting the scan you want to run, setting up a custom scan, and scheduling scans are pretty easy.

All period protections are turned on by default, so most users won’t have to customize anything to be protected.

Malwarebytes Review

During my tests, Malwarebytes did not noticeably slow down my computer’s performance. I barely even noticed it was there at all. Some antiviruses will slow down a system’s performance, especially during full system scans, but Malwarebytes ran quietly in the background during all of my tests.

I also like that Malwarebytes has a simple play mode, which hides notifications once the app’s area unit is in full-screen mode; this is usually good for gaming and streaming. However, I don’t like that users have to be forced to add the apps, as competitors like Norton automatically suspend scans AND notifications once an app is in full-screen mode (Norton also improves gaming performance with its wonderful booster game).

Overall, Malwarebytes is intuitive and easy to use, doesn’t cause system lag, and even contains an easy play mode to pause notifications once you play games or watch movies.

Malwarebytes Mobile App

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Malwarebytes Mobile App
Malwarebytes Review

Malwarebytes is available on both iOS and device – both apps are well designed and easy to use, but the device app offers much more convenience than the iOS app. Throughout my tests, each app worked fine. I found it easy to install and use the apps, as well as access and customize all the available settings.

The automatic app has all the features similar to the desktop app (malware scanning, ransomware protection, Internet protection, and vulnerability protection), but it also includes some useful extras, such as spyware protection and a privacy audit tool. I prefer this tool because it allows users to see which apps have which permissions. For example, you’ll be able to read apps that can explore your personal information, track your location, monitor calls, charge you cash, and much, much more.

The iOS app doesn’t have as many options as the auto app, but that’s not Malwarebytes’ fault: Apple doesn’t allow antivirus scanners in the App Store and doesn’t even allow apps that scan or block alternative apps. That said, the iOS app has good internet protection, ad blocking, and scam decision blocking. While this isn’t plentiful, I prefer to use the app as simple as it is.

Privacy VPN

Malwarebytes also offers its Privacy VPN app for auto and iOS users; however, sadly, all of my complaints regarding Privacy VPN’s desktop app are true with their mobile app. Malwarebytes Privacy is slower than competitors, doesn’t adopt a kill switch, doesn’t work with streaming sites, doesn’t allow torrents, and won’t bypass government censorship. Mobile VPNs like ExpressVPN and CyberGhost provide much higher speed and convenience than Malwarebytes Privacy VPN.

Overall, there are better apps for both auto users and iOS users: Norton is my favorite auto antivirus (includes malware protection. AN app authority, and Wi-Fi protection), and it’s also my best alternative for iOS protection (Comes with internet protection. Dark internet watching, a VPN, and much more.)

But Malwarebytes’ iOS and automaton apps are smart too, and I’d recommend them for novice or less tech-savvy users.

Malwarebytes Customer Support

Malwarebytes offers a decent knowledge domain, a live chat grub, and email support.

These are good customer support options, but I would like to see the company provide phone support as well. Most rivals offer a variety of possibilities (for example, TotalAV has email, phone, and live chat support).

Malwarebytes Review In 2023 Malwarebytes Customer Support
Malwarebytes Review

While trying out Malwarebytes customer support, I accessed the support chat larva for the first time. The larva works as a groundwork for the Malwarebytes data domain: once you raise an issue with the larva. It will provide you with a list of links to acceptable articles. The articles in the data domain are quite clever, with very elaborate explanations of how to use the program, as well as all of its features.

Malwarebytes Review

If the articles don’t answer your queries, you can catch up with the Malwarebytes email support team. I submitted a price ticket on the official website and got a helpful reply within around twenty-four hours. While this is an honest period. I’d love to imagine Malwarebytes adopting a live chat facility so users can get instant answers to their queries. Competitors like Norton and McAfee provide 24/7 live chat, so real people are always available to help answer your queries.

Overall, Malwarebytes’ live chat grub is pretty basic and not that useful if you want immediate help with a complex issue; however, the knowledge domain is incredibly comprehensive and can answer most queries. The email support team is also very friendly and knowledgeable, but I find it difficult to have the option to speak with a company representative using a live chat feature.

Is Malwarebytes Premium Worth The Price?

Malwarebytes offers excellent temporary malware protection, smart phishing protection, and a good VPN, all for a fair price.

However, Malwarebytes lacks many of the features I expect to try during a premium antivirus: it doesn’t have many of the extras that the main competitors adopt even in their basic plans (firewall, system enhancement, password manager, etc.).

During my tests, the Malwarebytes antivirus scanner worked well, investigating 95% of my tests for malware files. While this may be a sensible result, competitors like Norton, McAfee, and Bitdefender all have malware detection rates of 100 percent. Malwarebytes’ time protection was better than their malware scanner, although time protection did block ninety-eight of the malware files I tried to launch (that is, admire the best antiviruses on the market).

Malwarebytes also has internet protection (with a ninetieth detection rate against phishing sites) and a secure VPN. Unfortunately, the VPN cannot access streaming services like Netflix or bypass censorship in countries with web restrictions.

If you’re looking for a complete web security suite with tons of cybersecurity protections. I’d recommend Norton 360 Standard or Bitdefender Total Security (both have stronger malware protection and are available with a wider range of premium extras).

But if you’re looking for an easy-to-use, easy-to-install-and-forget-it antivirus scanner with sensible internet protection, Malwarebytes may be a good fit. Additionally, Malwarebytes contains a 14-day free trial and a generous 60-day money-back guarantee.

Yes, Malwarebytes includes a free installation, but it’s limited. It only contains a malware scanner and a browser extension that provides anti-phishing protection and ad blocking (but isn’t great at blocking ads).

While all free antiviruses have limited practicality. There are much better free antiviruses than Malwarebytes: my favorite is Avira, which comes with a great malware scanner, time protection, device enhancement, and even a VPN.

But if you don’t mind paying for premium protection. Malwarebytes Premium can be a good antivirus with a malware detection rate of 95 (98% for period protection). Yes, Malwarebytes is safe. is a good antivirus scanner. Period protection provides multiple layers of protection against malware, system vulnerabilities, and online threats, and a browser extension that provides additional protection against phishing and malicious sites.

While Malwarebytes isn’t as good at detecting malware as the best antiviruses of 2023. It’s an honest program for beginners, non-tech-savvy users, or users looking for basic antivirus convenience.

The VPN that comes with Malwarebytes Premium + Privacy is also very secure: it uses 256-bit AES encryption. Offers the highly secure WireGuard protocol, and doesn’t log any user information.

Is Malwarebytes Compatible With My Device?

Malwarebytes is offered on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Chromebook devices.

All of Malwarebytes‘ app area units are easy to use. Intuitive, and perform well, and Malwarebytes Privacy VPN for mobile is also offered. (Although not as good as mobile VPNs from ExpressVPN and CyberGhost).

Malwarebytes can be a sensible antivirus for users looking for a minimalist antivirus that’s easy to navigate. During my tests, I had no problem finding and accessing all the options, and the antivirus didn’t throttle my system. Even during a full disk scan on my Windows laptop.

Is Malwarebytes Worth Buying?

It depends on your wishes. If you want a simple antivirus with malware protection and internet protection for periods only. Then yes, Malwarebytes Premium may be a suitable product.

But there may well be better options out there. For example, Norton, Bitdefender, and TotalAV area units are easy to use. Offer good or near-perfect malware detection rates, and are available with a host of additional protections (firewall, system optimization, password manager, VPN, etc.).

Malwarebytes Premium + Privacy adds a secure and reliable VPN, however, the VPN does not work with it.

Malwarebytes can be a basic partner virus with an intuitive interface, smart mobile apps, and strong malware protection.
