Norton 360 Antivirus (Review) is one of the simplest antivirus programs out there. It has excellent malware detection rates, offers good real-time protection, and is possibly the most feature-rich antivirus app for both PC and mobile devices. It even comes with a virtual private network (VPN) and a password manager.
But what security measures do the Norton security suite offer? And what is the difference between Norton’s Standard, Deluxe, and Premium plans?
I gave it a try and prepared a detailed Norton 360 review to tell you everything you would like to know about this security suite and help you decide if it is the right antivirus product for you.
When you consider antivirus software, Norton is perhaps one of the main names that come to mind. And reason permanently:

Is Norton 360 safe?
I was pleasantly surprised to find that Norton Antivirus has a long history of perfect (or near-perfect) virus detection results. Even during the most recent test period (October 2020), it managed to reach a maximum of 6 points in Protection, Performance, and Utility.
To put it another way, the Norton security suite detected 100% of zero-day malware, had no false positives, and had a lower impact on PC speed than many other antivirus applications. As a result, your malware protection is impenetrable.
Other independent experts also revealed that Norton 360 does not stop working even after deleting several of its files, closing application processes, and downloading drivers.
A test with custom ransomware was also a success for Norton: the antivirus program detected the attack in seconds.
Norton 360 security Measures
Of course, the most that people want to understand about antivirus software is the security measures it offers. And fortunately, Norton 360 comes with one of the most impressive security suites on the market. It features real-time threat protection, a complicated firewall, and Norton VPN access.
But what else should Norton’s security suite offer? Read on for a complete overview of Norton 360 security measures.
Real-time threat protection
Norton 360 uses intelligent artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to observe all types of online threats, protecting your devices against viruses, malware, spyware, and ransomware.
Norton 360 software comes with the option to install the Norton Toolbar with Norton Safe Web on your browsers. Once you’ve installed it, you’ll see that whenever you do an internet search, there will be an icon next to each search result to indicate how safe it is:
- Green means it is perfectly safe to click
- Gray indicates an unknown URL
- Yellow can be a potential hazard
- Red can be a dangerous place.
For more information, click on the icon to read a full report at the link.
Even more impressive, this technique also works on Twitter and Facebook feeds, as well as web-based emails. And while this seems annoying and would saturate your feeds with additional icons, all it does is highlight risky links in red to stay safe without hampering your user experience.
Elsewhere, we found Norton 360 isolation mode to be quite useful. This handy feature allows you to visit a potentially dangerous site without causing damage to your machine. It does this by displaying the page online on Norton’s server, stripping it of any dangerous content before presenting it to you. It also prevents you from sharing sensitive data with the no doubt harmful website to keep your information safe. Norton’s antivirus security leaves no holes for vulnerabilities.
Norton 360 opens supported financial sites in isolation mode for added security. It’s worth noting that this makes it look like a banking website that you are logging into a replacement device. So please have your security answers ready.
Norton 360 also defends against ransomware by protecting your documents against modification by an unknown program.
Norton Secure VPN
When you sign up for a Norton 360 package, you will gain access to Norton’s secure VPN as part of your plan. For those wondering, a VPN (or virtual private network) hides your IP address to prevent someone from being able to track your location, identity, or determine what you are doing online.
And it encrypts all your online data to protect you from hackers and to make sure your online activity remains private. This is particularly useful if you are using public Wi-Fi, which is typically not secure and can leave you susceptible to attack. It can also be an important tool for those who have managed to remain anonymous or for anyone who values their privacy online.
Using Norton Secure VPN is basically simple and straightforward because it is fully integrated with Norton security software. Therefore, you do not need to download an additional application. It’s just on the Norton home screen.
When you turn it on, it automatically connects to the fastest server outside of your country. However, if you want to decide which country you want to attach to access region-restricted content, you will do so manually. BTW, Norton’s VPN allowed me to access the geo-restricted content on Netflix (UK and US). This is usually great, as not all VPNs are set up to do that.
Also, I did not detect any IP or DNS address leaks, which suggests that you are really safe when using Norton VPN. I also liked that the VPN blocked all ads during my session.
My main complaint with Norton Secure VPN is that it doesn’t have many features and it doesn’t have a kill switch. If the VPN is interrupted, you will still receive a warning from Norton. But in the meantime, your real IP address will be exposed immediately. Don’t forget that a VPN doesn’t offer protection against malware.
Also, Norton VPN seems to block P2P traffic as it used to not be able to download an Ubuntu installer via BitTorrent with the VPN enabled.
Most firewalls work by preventing outside attacks from accessing your computer through your Internet connection. But Norton Smart Firewall can be a silent, two-way firewall that works by monitoring the network traffic that is sent and received on your computer every time you are online. Block any suspicious traffic to keep your files and personal data safe from malicious attacks and prying eyes.
Norton then uses the two-way silent firewall to provide intrusion protection. It works by monitoring Internet traffic and protecting it against unwanted communications. this can help keep your machine safe from intrusion attacks.
Apart from that, Norton Smart Firewall offers a vulnerability assessment feature. This works by detecting any way a cybercriminal could potentially attack your machine and protect yourself against them. This is often a really reassuring feature, as vulnerabilities appear anywhere from your operating system software and applications to weak passwords.
Norton’s Vulnerability Assessment will constantly monitor for these vulnerabilities and warn you if any are discovered on your computer. Then they will make a recommendation to help you solve the problem. For example, it may suggest downloading and installing the latest updated version of your operating software. Or it would warn you if a link results in a potentially threatening site. So it’s great for your peace of mind, it’s the Norton Internet Security standard.
Norton password manager
Another useful feature included within the Norton 360 security suite is access to your password manager. A password manager is one of the most useful online tools because it means that you simply need to remember a password that will start you in the encrypted vault.
Aside from the benefit of not having to fill in all your login details each time you want to access any of your online accounts, it means that you will choose stronger passwords, which can mean that you are much less likely to install hacked. After all, if you don’t need to remember your password, you will make it as complicated and random as you like.
Norton Password Manager is one of the highest non-dedicated password managers that I have tested. Upon testing it, I found that Norton Password Manager did all the tasks I needed, including password replication, web form filling, password capture, and syncing on Windows, Android, and iOS devices. It evaluates the strength of all your passwords and warns you when your password is not strong enough.
It is easy to align and you will add it on other devices by scanning a QR code. you will add existing accounts very easily and manage them all in one place. And every time you create a replacement account, it will automatically add your login details to the password manager.
Our only complaint is that it doesn’t offer two-factor authentication, which could make it even more secure.
Norton’s PC cloud backup
Norton’s cloud backup tool lets you save all of your essential documents in a safe, off-site location.
You will get a special amount of cloud backup space depending on the plan you sign up for. We will explain this in more detail a little further down. But whatever plan you select, you’re going to get a really generous amount, especially compared to the competition.
Norton cloud backup is incredibly convenient. It makes it easy to access your files on your computer, phone, or another device you use to access the web. Therefore, you will never lose your data if your machine is packaged, lost, or stolen.
But in fact, like all Norton products, the main reason to use it is to keep your machine safe. And in the case of cloud backup of your PC, this can keep your confidential files and data safe from ransomware.
Hackers can use ransomware to encrypt your files, forcing you to purchase the encryption key to revive your data. then using cloud backup can be very helpful in defending against this threat. Because your files are securely protected on Norton’s servers, even if they can be accessed by anyone, you will still have copies safely stored.
Like the rest of Norton’s features, its cloud backup is basically easy to align and use. By setting it up, Norton lets you decide which files you would like to copy and how often you would like this to happen. will schedule backups on a weekly or monthly basis. otherwise, you can use the automatic backup option, which backs up your files whenever you’re not using your computer. This minimizes the chance of you losing data without slowing down your machine when you try to use it.
SafeCam for PC
One of the most convenient features Norton offers is its SafeCam protection. If you have a webcam, cybercriminals can use spyware to request photos along with your webcam without your knowledge. this could cause blackmail or worse. Norton SafeCam works by blocking unauthorized access to your PC’s webcam to keep you safe from this threat.
It does this by alerting you to untrusted apps trying to access your camera, allowing the potential customer to block it before it does any harm.
In practice, it is quite discreet. By default, SafeCam automatically allows safe applications to access your camera, so you will rarely be bothered by alerts. And if you are receiving an alert, you will prefer to always allow or block whenever the application accesses your webcam. Therefore, you will only be prompted once for each application.
When we tested it, SafeCam performed quite well and gave us peace of mind in knowing that our webcam is safe from spyware.
If you buy Norton 360 Deluxe or Norton 360 Premium, you can also get the parental control feature as a separate app called Norton Family.
Norton Family lets you choose the devices your children use and discover different rules for each child. In addition, it offers a couple of restriction levels for various age groups. You will also receive a warning when an inappropriate website is accessed.
Also, Norton Family just released a replacement feature called Shool-Time. It allows you to limit your children’s online activity during certain hours by allowing them to access only whitelisted websites and categories.
To make sure Norton Family really works, I enabled it and tried accessing adult content. Fortunately, the application did not allow me to open these websites, although it had been configured to only warn me, so as not to block the pages completely. It also blocked adult images in Google image results, suggesting that they may not load at all.
However, I recognized that the parental control feature is not 100% compatible with Norton’s VPN, because the VPN connection interfered with the parental control’s ability to block ads containing adult content.
Dark Web Monitoring
You can log into Norton 360‘s Dark Web Monitoring feature on its official website along with your Deluxe or Premium account.
Dark Web Monitoring will let you know if any of your credentials (bank accounts, MasterCard details, phone numbers, addresses, etc.) have been compromised on dark websites and forums since 2008.
To test the Dark Web monitoring feature, I found a breached email online. had been involved in 15 data breaches consistent with ihavebeenpwned.com. Unfortunately, I did not receive any security alerts for this email from Norton’s Dark Web feature.
While this test is not completely accurate (as there is no way to tell if this information was posted on the dark web), the function’s inability to identify email as vulnerable can be a bit disappointing.
Norton Crypto may be a new PC feature added to the Norton 360 package. It allows you to include your device in a cryptocurrency mining pool and safely mine cryptocurrencies during your computer’s downtime. Currently, the program allows you to mine Ethereum.
And as soon as you earn some cryptocurrency, you will transfer it to your cloud-based Norton Crypto Wallet.
Plans and Pricing
Then Norton 360 offers tons of great security measures. But what proportion does it cost? Well, there are three Norton 360 plans. Let’s take a look at them and see what they offer and what they cost.
|Norton 360 Standard||Real-time protection, PC Cloud Backup (10GB), Firewall, Password Manager, Secure VPN, SafeCam for PC, Dark Web Monitoring||$29.99|
|Norton 360 Deluxe||Everything from quality plan + cloud backup for PC (50 GB), coverage for up to 5 devices, parental control||$39.99|
|Norton 360 with LifeLock Select||Everything from Deluxe plan + PC Cloud Backup (100GB), Privacy Monitor, LifeLock Identity Alert System, Stolen Wallet Protection||$95.88|
|Norton 360 Premium (not available in the US)||Everything from the Deluxe + PC Cloud Backup plan (75GB), coverage for up to 10 devices||£44.99|
Norton 360 Standard
Norton 360 Standard (also called Norton AntiVirus Plus in certain regions) is Norton’s most basic plan. It costs $ 29.99 for the primary year and can be used on one device. So it’s probably not the simplest option for you if you’re trying to find something to keep all of your devices safe.
Considering it’s the essential plan, we were impressed to learn that Norton 360 Standard still offers most of the security measures equivalent to the Deluxe and Premium options. the 2 most important features it lacks are the Parental Control and Faculty Time features. So it might not be the simplest option if you have young children. But if you live alone and only want to protect one device, the quality plan should work fine.
After all, they are all the opposite security measures Norton has to offer, including PC cloud backup up to 10GB. And it also comes with Norton’s 100% Virus Protection Promise, which suggests that if Norton can’t fix your virus problem, you’ll get a refund.
Here is a complete list of everything that is included in the standard Norton 360 plan:
- Protection against spyware, antivirus, malware, and ransomware
- Cloud backup for PC: up to 10 GB
- Firewall for PC and Mac
- Password manager
- 100% antivirus protection promise
- Secure VPN
- SafeCam for PC
- Dark Web Monitoring
Norton 360 Deluxe
At $ 39.99 for the elementary year, there seems to be little reason not to choose Norton 360 Deluxe over its more elementary offering. for almost an equivalent price because with the standard plan, it will protect up to 5 devices, giving you much more flexibility.
You also get 50GB of PC cloud backup, which means it will protect five times more files than with Norton Antivirus Plus. In addition, you can get access to Norton’s parental controls, which are basically useful if you have children. Of course, it goes without saying that you will also have access to the full suite of Norton 360 Deluxe security measures listed above.
Norton 360 with LifeLock Select
Norton 360 with LifeLock Select is kind of a huge price increase. So what does one get for their additional $ 55 subscription fee? the solution is “quite a lot”, starting with 100GB of cloud storage. However, the unique selling proposition behind LifeLock is fraud protection. Here are some of the accompanying features:
- Privacy Monitor – Scans online trying to find your publicly available personal data
- LifeLock Identity Alert System – Notifies you when your personal data is used in a suspicious way online
- US-Based Identity Restoration Specialists: Norton 360 Provides Experts To Help With Fraud
- Stolen Wallet Protection – If your wallet is stolen, it will deactivate your credit cards, driver’s license, and other paperwork.
Norton 360 Premium
Instead of Norton with LifeLock Select, customers from countries outside the US can get Norton 360 Premium, which costs about $ 10, quite the Deluxe plan. With the Premium plan, you will protect up to 10 devices. So it’s ideal if you have a lot of devices, otherwise, you want a plan for the whole family.
You also get a whopping 75GB bundled with your PC’s cloud backup. Which is incredibly generous, as it will protect tons of files.
However, other than that, there is not much difference between Premium and Deluxe. Therefore, unless you have tons of files and devices that you would like to keep safe, we recommend that you go for the Deluxe version as it offers better value for money.
Ease of Use & Setup
Norton 360 offers one of the most comprehensive security packages we have tested and is quite affordable for the degree of protection you are getting. Except for all that, is it easy to use? We determine.
Norton 360 installation
Norton 360 is a relatively simple program to download and install. It did not take long to test the approach. In a couple of minutes, we were up and running. Of course, this requires you to restart your computer, which might be inconvenient if you’re in the middle of something or have a lot of tabs open. But after you’ve done that, the rest of the process will be rather simple.
I tested it on my Mac and he ran into a couple of initial issues when it came to my permissions. But that’s to be expected on an Apple device. Fortunately, Norton asked my Mac to open the right window and gave me instructions on how to give Norton the appropriate permissions. So everything was downloaded and installed in 10 minutes, which is cheap.
And as soon as you’re ready, Norton will give you a guided tour of their software so you know where everything is. And if you ever forget something, you will come back to the current information anytime you want by clicking the gear icon on the home page.
Norton 360 interface
Norton’s interface is clean and easy to navigate, with most of the functions available on the welcome screen. Like all Norton products, you will find that an inordinate amount of space is haunted by images of people hiking in the mountains. As pleasant as it may sound, as a user, I would prefer the space to be used for shortcuts to other Norton features or more details about the state of my computer. But it’s still a really useful home screen, with a lot of useful options on the right toolbar.
It’s annoying that many of Norton’s features open outside of the app. So if you want to evaluate your Dark Web Monitoring or add parental controls, you will be redirected to a web page with more information. soon, you will have many Norton tabs open. which can be a bit frustrating if you want to have everything in one place.
However, there are many customization options available, which is useful. And if you stop, there are three icons on the home page to help you find what you are trying to find. Pressing the question mark icon will show you an inventory of popular tasks that you might like to perform. The cogwheel icon will allow you to re-observe the guided tour. and thus the chat icon will allow you to leave comments to help Norton improve your user experience.
Norton 360 mobile app
The Norton Mobile Security app brings Norton’s best security measures to your phones. Unfortunately, there is no free version. But if you have signed up for the Norton Deluxe or Premium plan, you will log into your account in the app and set it up along with your devices.
And if you only want protection on your phone, you will sign up for the quality package and use the limit of a device on your smartphone. However, as we said before, the Norton Deluxe package is often used on more devices and costs the equivalent of the Standard plan.
It is very easy to align and use. This has a wonderfully simple interface with most of the features available on the home page. It also starts scanning immediately. So you don’t even have to tell it to start monitoring your privacy and looking for potential threats.
Whenever you open a link, Norton’s Link Guard will check if the location is safe to keep your phone safe from phishing scams and malicious sites.
The Android version of the Norton app includes a few extra functions than the iOS version. That’s to be anticipated, considering Apple’s built-in limitations.
The Norton Mobile Security app has a lot of cool features, such as:
- Web protection to block fraudulent sites that could potentially steal confidential data
- Wi-Fi Security, which scans your Wi-Fi connection for potential threats.
- System advisor that will provide you with a warning about operating system threats
- Safe Search, which can help you avoid phishing scams and dangerous sites while browsing the web
- Privacy report, which tells you what data your applications share
- Real-time antimalware scanning and malware protection (Android only)
- App Advisor, which checks app privacy and possible battery issues
Our main problem with the Norton mobile app may be similar to our biggest complaint with the desktop version. While the desktop app forces you to open tons of its features in multiple tabs, there are tons of features in Norton Mobile Security that you’ll only use if you download apps separately.
This is really annoying, as it is much more convenient if everything is included in one application. But it is not the top of the planet. Links to standalone applications are easily found within the Norton Mobile Security application menu.
Norton Mobile security measures available in standalone applications are:
- Password manager
- Secure VPN
- Parental control
Norton offers a variety of customer support options if you have a problem. Once you click on the Customer Support page for the first time, you will find a host of useful links for popular topics to help you solve your problem yourself. There is also a query bar to help you navigate through the various help guides and frequently asked questions.
The FAQs are well organized and there are many. In fact, some of them are so comprehensive that it takes a while to scroll to find the knowledge you would like.
And if you need to speak to someone, there is more dedicated help available, including live chat and a 24/7 helpline.
Norton does not offer an email support option. But because, as we all know, you are more likely to request quick help by calling or employing a live chat feature, this is not the top of the planet.
Is Norton 360 any good?
In short, Norton 360 is not only good, it is actually among the simplest antivirus programs on the market out of the box. It provides strong and consistent online security and protects devices from almost all types of cybersecurity threats out there.
Cheaper antivirus solutions certainly exist, but there are few that provide such comprehensive coverage. And hardly any that offer this level of protection.
Of course, it includes some additional extras, such as access to Norton Secure VPN and its password manager. So if you already have another VPN plan and password manager that you are proud of, Norton will not be the simplest value option for you.
But if security is your main concern, Norton 360 is the simplest choice you can make. It has 100% protection against all types of malware. And it offers impressive device security, cloud backup, and parental controls. Their mobile app works quite well, although it’s a slight inconvenience that you simply need to download separate apps if you want to use the VPN, parental controls, or password manager on your phone.
This drawback aside, Norton 360 is incredibly efficient, effective, and powerful. In fact, we would probably say that Norton 360 is one of the simplest all-in-one antivirus products money can buy.
