SwitchVPN Review In 2021: Features, Pricing & More!

SwitchVPN (review) comes from CS Systems, Inc., a Delaware corporation outside of the US.

Its VPN service was founded in 2015 because the founding security team considered that “a free internet was under threat.”

Today, they already have more than 220 servers spread over 38 locations. and provide some of the simplest supports we’ve witnessed so far.

Let’s take a step back before we do that.

We have compiled weeks of work during this SwitchVPN review. It includes both first-hand experience and quantitative chemical analysis from various third-party sources.

Read on to find out if we give them a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

SwitchVPN Pros

SwitchVPN provides an easy-to-use, leak-free VPN connection. That’s protected by a host of protocol options, strong encryption, and compatibility for almost all major devices.

Oh, and his support was one of the fastest we’ve seen.

Have a look .

No Leaks or Viruses Were Found

VPNs encrypt your Internet connection and create a safe tunnel around it.

That means no one – not your Internet Service Provider (ISP), the government, or the shady guy sitting next to you at the airport – can figure out what you’re doing.

Anyway, that’s the idea.

If those three selected your signal, it should show that you are hundreds or thousands of miles away in a different city. Personal data, such as your physical location, must be redirected to the VPN servers.

Unfortunately, it is not always the truth.

Sometimes your VPN is just sloppy. Or sometimes they flat out lie down on their VPN servers.

Either way, you are left to select the pieces when things break down.

The good news is that our tests revealed that SwitchVPN won’t filter your physical location.

And bonus points:

Your installation files also came back clean. We have found potential viruses in previous VPNs that use VirusTotal. But not this point.

Impressive Customer Support

We don’t usually place customer service that high on the list.

Usually it is buried somewhere below. Especially when companies take days to respond to a simple inquiry.

Do not misunderstand.

Customer service is critical. But perhaps only when security, privacy, and performance have been addressed.

This time was different.

The first positive sign was a familiar-looking live chat that read “We operate on Intercom.”

Other companies we’ve tested have live chat (like NordVPN). However, there is nothing alive about them.

You may literally wait an hour for a response. We also had the pleasure (sarcasm) of waiting for that whole point, only to serve an FAQ URL for an answer.

Thanks. No way.

Now, compare that to SwitchVPN.

His support rep, Charu, was online in seconds. Like, but five.

He also started answering my questions right away. With zero delays or lags between responses.

It almost felt like … giving a sermon to a real, lively, friendly person. Imagine that!

Article: SwitchVPN Review In 2021

We have even been back several times since then and got similar results. Helpful and direct answers are just seconds away. Response times are instantaneous.

And because they use Intercom, all of your prior discussions are saved even if you don’t log in (if you are not already connected to a VPN). This is one of those few instances where following a few users is quite beneficial.

The Torrent Function is Allowed on all Servers

Torrent falls over a gray area.

It is not inherently bad inherently. Dozens of tech companies, like gaming giant Blizzard, use it for completely legitimate purposes, like speeding up massive file downloads.

But even many (well, probably many more) use it to download copyrighted games, movies, and music.

So some VPNs won’t allow it. Or they’ll restrict you to backwaters with just a couple of P2P servers.

SwitchVPN allows you to download torrents on any of its servers using BitTorrent.

Once you have opened the connection, it will string a port number to appear in your BitTorrent client.

We also verify it with support. So you are good to go!

Feel free to start downloading. Just remember that your jurisdiction and registration policy may contain a couple of surprises.

They have a selected DMCA policy that clearly outlines how copyright holders can raise concerns. which means you have an honest chance to be the recipient if you conflict with the law.
But more on that below within the Cons. For now, rejoice that the torrenting feature is fully supported.

Four Protocols, AES-256 Encryption

“Convenience” means many things with a VPN.

Ideally, you just want the damn thing to feature. You don’t want to have to jump through hoops to urge a connection setup.

You also want it to be located on all the devices you use. And you don’t want to have tons of additional settings to try.

SwitchVPN features bank-grade AES-256 encryption in five different protocols: OpenVPN, L2TP / IPSec, IKEv2, SSTP, and Socks5.

So they have options, but by default they fit the industry standard criteria to keep you safe.

Beyond that, they need native apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices. will connect five of them simultaneously. But if you discovered SwitchVPN on a router (they recommend one from Asus), you will extend that number and use it with game consoles.

They work with smart TVs (based on Android). and therefore the Tor browser, which is ideal for those trying to find an additional layer of anonymity.

Last but not least, they need a kill switch. This handy little feature is like a policy.

If your network connection goes down at any time, the kill switch will immediately close all active sessions. That may sound bad, but it isn’t. It prevents your ISP, the websites you are visiting or anyone else from selecting up to date on your location and browsing session data.

Netflix Worked (On All US Servers)

Netflix was one area where this service really stood out. Not only did it stand out, but it showed a marked improvement over our last test.

When it comes to Netflix and VPN, you are handling a sordid, extended track record of 1 superiority.

Initially, VPNs were Netflix’s perennial loophole. Netflix content is not accessible to everyone. Different countries have different license agreements with the streaming service. For example, CBS’s favorite long-running comedy, The Great Bang Theory, is featured in Netflix libraries across the planet at the time of writing. But within the US, I cannot access that program.

Once upon a time, if I wanted to watch a geoblocked program, I would simply activate my trusty VPN and connect to a server within the area where I was licensed, and before you said “bazinga”, I ‘would be connected and broadcasting.

Netflix finally found out what was happening and visited the war with VPNs. It unleashed a complicated VPN detection system on the web that made it nearly impossible for VPNs to access your content.

In return, VPNs started to get more advanced. In response to this, Netflix doubled down and improved its detection methods, later on. So once you find a VPN that works with Netflix, it’s an honest idea to stick with it. We’ve even compiled an inventory of the simplest VPNs for Netflix to help with this search.

Netflix and other streaming services are getting better at identifying VPN servers and shutting down thousands of people in one go. But on the opposite side of the coin, VPN producers got smarter and upped their game. that’s the case with SwitchVPN.

When we initially tested SwitchVPN, we tested five of their servers and one of them worked. When playing the Netflix game, one in 5 is not an unpleasant score. But now they claim that each of their US servers works with Netflix and that their London server can unblock the UK Netflix library.

We tried this out for ourselves and were in awe. They were right in a sense. US servers perfectly unblocked Netflix. I tried five of them and every one of them worked.

Well done on one, SwitchVPN.

However, your London server claim cannot be verified. once i tried to access the server it was showing red.

SwitchVPN London Server

I selected it anyway hoping against hope that it might work. Unfortunately, I never need to test the Netflix service because the London server performance was so poor that I couldn’t even open the website.

I waited a few hours and then tried again. The server was still green at this point. I chose it and went to Netflix.

SwitchVPN Netflix Time Out

I was not so lucky.

So while the incredible success of their server in the US is enough to get them on Netflix’s professional list, we can’t verify their claims of a working London server.

SwitchVPN Cons

The great things about SwitchVPN were good.

The connection was solid, the customer support was amazing, and even a Netflix server worked.

Let us now turn our attention to the other side of the coin.

No VPN is perfect. SwitchVPN is no exception to this rule.

Have a look .

Housed Within a Founding Member Of Five Eyes

VPN jurisdictions have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Take SwitchVPN, for example. They are located within the USA.

So we’ll start drawing a couple of conclusions after reviewing over 70 other companies.

American VPN companies typically offer leak-free products with strong support.

Not all of the time. SwitchVPN, on the other hand, proved to be exactly that.

There are also common drawbacks.

At the top of the list is usually your government surveillance. The United States was also one of the founding members of the Five Eyes security alliance. meaning that any information collected can (and will) be freely shared with many other governments around the world.

If it had only been five countries yet, it wouldn’t be so bad. But it has expanded to 14 over the past two decades.

If true anonymity is your goal (rather than just security), you probably want to go beyond most American VPN companies. Because they can all offer you equivalent problems, along with some questionable registration policies.

Question Marks Around Your Registration Policy

logging policy
Article: SwitchVPN Review In 2021

SwitchVPN has a “zero logging policy”. Like almost all other VPN companies.

You should roll up your sleeves and review both the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service to boost the fine print.

This is what we discovered within the SwitchVPN Privacy Policy.

True to their word, they don’t collect traffic or VPN usage.

But they are collecting a lot of other things.

Some of them are completely harmless. For example, they have payment information for tax purposes. None of this is a major issue.

However, largely due to their location, they admit that they will release your personally identifiable information (PII) if there is cause for concern.

We looked at their privacy policy to determine if they were hiding something, and surely there was something that made us instantly uncomfortable.

SwitchVPN Privacy Policy

Compliance with valid legal process.

Right there they are letting you acknowledge that if Uncle Sam comes to call, they will cooperate. That would be a potential issue that could offer you a break if you are trying to find a 100% private experience.

Average Server Speeds

SwitchVPN‘s speed tests rank them 28th out of 78 we’ve reviewed.

This is how we got to these numbers.

The first step is to urge you to read about our “clean” connection speed. So we ran a test with SpeedTest.net to determine what our standard internet connection speed is.

Ours reached 97.00 Mbps download and 53.00 Mbps upload.

Next, we activate the VPN in question and connect to a few different servers in various parts of the world.

In this case, we start with a US server in New York. This is what we got:

US server speed
Article: SwitchVPN Review In 2021

U.S. Server (New York):

  • Ping: 151
  • Download: 27.65 Mbps (71.5% slower)
  • Upload: 11.72 Mbps (77.9% slower)

Sexual attraction Not well. Speeds were 70% slower across the board.

Let’s try again and see if it was an anomaly.

Next, we connect to an EU server in Frankfurt. and therefore the results were …

EU server speed
Article: SwitchVPN Review In 2021

EU Server (Germany):

  • Ping: 65 ms
  • Download: 20.81 Mbps (78.5% slower)
  • Upload: 29.11 Mbps (45.1% slower)

Oh! More than one equivalent.

That’s worrisome, because it seems like your servers are constantly in trouble.

The only silver lining is that at ~ 220 servers, you have options. you may be ready to keep browsing until you find one you want. (But their app doesn’t show cities, so you may need to experiment with a tap.)

Compare that to a couple of VPNs we’ve tested that only provide about a dozen or so. in that case, you’re screwed.

When there are very few servers, the chances of having the ability to search for several on the edge of you are slim. And your chances of getting into a Battle Royale with other clients through reduced server resources are high.

Nightmare setup, poor usability

Discovering a VPN should be easy. Most of the simpler VPNs I’ve tried have been up and running in less than five minutes.

SwitchVPN took several DAYS.

The majority of this has nothing to do with the software.

When we first signed up, we got a username and password from SwitchVPN. I entered it on your website by clicking on the menu item marked “login” at the top of the page.

It did not work.

I tried again and again. It did not work. Finally, I found a link to an alternate login screen, entered the credentials, and logged in.

That led me to a board.

Once there, you used to be ready to find the download links on the left hand side.

I started downloading the Windows client.

Unloading slid fine. it had been installed in less than a moment. That mentioned the VPN client. On another occasion he asked for my username and password. I entered them.

Login Page for SwitchVPN
Article: SwitchVPN Review In 2021

It did not work.

The same login information that was not working on their website, but which led me to the control panel via that link, was not working on the particular VPN client.

I thought something was up, so I clicked I forgot my password.

It took me to a page that asked for my username and password.

The password that I just said I had forgotten.

I entered the credentials I had and they did not work.

I took the opportunity and came back to it later, hoping it had been a short-lived system problem. Tried to open the client and it may not open. I, had to reinstall it and then restart my computer to open it up.

My login still didn’t work.

I contacted their live chat support and got no response. Finally, days after waiting for a good response from customer service, we contacted again. at this point we got a response with a replacement password.

I went in and it worked.

The login page was nice and straightforward; a server selection menu and a huge push button that will connect you. I pressed the button.

They informed me that I would have to download and install new software. I took a deep breath and started putting things together. Fortunately, the setup was quick and I was able to connect right away.

The server menu is toward the bottom of the client. Click there to mention the full list of servers and make a variety to modify. If you have the Automatically select server box checked, you are not ready to switch servers unless you log out and uncheck it. I learned that the hard way.

Once you decide on a replacement server, the service will immediately log you out. Then you need to log in again to connect to the new service. Often times this is a useless extra step that I haven’t even encountered before with a VPN. I would think that a service called SwitchVPN would make it easy to modify servers.

Overall, it took several days and tons of frustration, but I finally got this service to work.

SwitchVPN Cost, Plans & Payment Methods

SwitchVPN pricing
Article: SwitchVPN Review In 2021

You can buy SwitchVPN Plus month to month for $ 9.95 / month with no bandwidth limits. Otherwise, you will plan for a full year and save 42% for less than $ 5.82 / mo.

Both plans have exact equivalent characteristics, therefore the only difference is that the term you register and therefore the price you pay.

The regular plan is much cheaper: $ 3.33 / month for the annual plan and $ 5.95 / month on a monthly basis.

You can use any credit or debit card issued by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover.

International users can use PayPal or Alipay. and people who wish to remain truly anonymous can use both Bitcoin.

Unfortunately, there is no free trial. But they offer a full 30 days to run their VPN service and get a refund if you’re not satisfied.

So a $ 10 bet will give you thirty days to determine if the incredible customer support is worth slightly slower speeds.

Do You Recommend SwitchVPN?

General? No, this VPN program is not something I can suggest.

We loved several things about SwitchVPN.

The application was incredibly easy to use. They supported a good type of device, providing best-in-class tunneling and encryption protocols. Their customer service was not fast, but also extremely nice.

But we have some serious reservations.

First comes your location in the US Regardless of what you are doing, regardless of how strong your privacy features are, there is always a risk that your data will be forwarded to the authorities if necessary. And once that happens, it will find its way into several other countries as well.

In our tests, their server speeds were steady, but they were also consistently slow. Which is not good. A unique server problem could be explained. It would not be the top of the planet. But multiple servers enter at equivalent slow speed? That hints at a much bigger problem under the surface.
