TigerVPN has been on the market since 2011. But has it created its service? Is it higher than other VPNs within the industry? Wrap up all the pros and cons of this service in my up-to-date, unbiased review.
|Based In||Slovakia [SAFE]|
|Servers||300+ (43 Countries)|
It’s been around even today, but why isn’t it as common as some of the other VPNs we’ve covered in our VPN 2022 reviews guide? Well, to be honest, it’s still not great. Once I signed up for this TigerVPN review, I found that it lacked a lot of options that I would commonly notice in VPNs like ExpressVPN or Surfshark.
While it’s fast and manages to unblock streaming services like BBC iPlayer and Netflix, you can’t get over the fact that it only offers a small network of servers.
Despite accounting for costs considerably compared to top VPNs like Surfshark, TigerVPN offers sub-par customer support and lacks basic security features like Kill Switch. All in all, for basic usage, TigerVPN is good enough, however, don’t expect anything exceptional from it. So, once I considered its strengths and weaknesses, I gave TigerVPN a couple of 5/5 stars during this review.
My Rating Criteria
To fully verify TigerVPN for its execs and cons, I used my nine-step rating criteria:
- Jurisdiction: Where is TigerVPN located?
- Security: Will TigerVPN Keep Logs?
- Leaks: Will TigerVPN Leak Information Processing, DNS, WebRTC?
- Servers: Is TigerVPN P2P supported?
- Speed – How fast is TigerVPN?
- Streaming: Will TigerVPN work with Netflix?
- Compatibility: What devices can I use TigerVPN with?
- Pricing: what proportion will TigerVPN cost?
- Reliability: Is TigerVPN safe to use?
Jurisdiction – Where is TigerVPN located?
TigerVPN is based in Slovakia. its associated workplace in Romania operates mainly under the law of the European country. Now, if you don’t get it, Slovakia is generally free from censorship. Slovakia also does not fall under the jurisdiction of the disreputable five-eyed alliance, which is also good.
Since there are no knowledge retention laws in Slovakia, you are free to refrain from keeping necessary knowledge records. We will review TigerVPN’s working policy for a moment to check whether it keeps any logs or not.
Security – Does TigerVPN Keep Logs?
At no time do we store, read, analyze, or otherwise change the traffic between you, our servers, and the public web. In other words, we tend not to save, scan, or have technical access to DNS queries, websites you visit, data you transfer, or communications.
- VPN protocol and version
- Operating system
- Application version
- Traffic data
- Connection session (server location)
- Favorite servers [optional]
- Debugging information [optional]
Considering that they don’t collect an excessive amount of information and that their association logs aren’t too invasive, I think TigerVPN is supposed to pass off as a no-logs VPN service.
Encryption & Other Features
In terms of protocols and encryption, TigerVPN is essentially prepared. starting with encryption, TigerVPN provides a 2048-bit RSA key exchange together with industry-standard AES-256-CBC encryption. It provides the tunneling protocols PPTP, L2TP/IPsec, and OpenVPN (TCP and UDP).
The VPN doesn’t offer much in the way of additional security features, either. You don’t even get a Kill Switch. Avoid using leaking tunnels, obfuscation, or perhaps a related ad blocker in favor of more complex alternatives. This may be the area where TigerVPN falls short in my opinion of value for money. Surfshark has a lot more possibilities in contrast.
TigerVPN is not completely sterile in terms of options. If you choose their annual plan, you can get a StickyPassword manager. Although it is not specifically a VPN-related feature, it is good to check in conjunction with the annual TigerVPN subscription.
Shimo VPN Manager
TigerVPN’s free annual package includes a Shimo VPN manager in addition to the StickyPassword password manager. Although it seems logical, it isn’t. Shimo is essentially a macOS VPN consumer that will assist you with managing several VPNs. But given that TigerVPN already provides a standalone client for macOS, I fail to see the point of advertising this capability.
Leaks – Does TigerVPN leak IP, DNS, WebRTC?
As for my leak check, TigerVPN worked quite well. Since they use their network and DNS servers, it did not leak my DNS, IP, and WebRTC during my tests. just inspect the screenshots below:
IP Leak Test:
For the information processing leak check, I started with their US server. I connected to a server in Atlanta and ran the check. As you can see from the screenshot below, TigerVPN did not leak my original data processing address.
DNS Leak Test:
Next, I got excited about checking for DNS leaks. For that, I used an equivalent US server. Again, as you can see on the screenshot, all my requests are routed through US DNS servers. So far so good.
WebRTC Leak Test:
Last but not least, I performed several WebRTC leak tests on TigerVPN. Surprisingly, TigerVPN showed no evidence of WebRTC breaches even after numerous tests.
Now that VPNs are involved, I’m a little concerned. So that I could be more certain of what I was downloading to my laptop, I ran the Windows file through VirusTotal. Thankfully, the verification result revealed no virus that had been disguised.
Servers – Is TigerVPN P2P Compatible?
P2P is supported by TigerVPN for torrenting. Anybody who torrents frequently will likely value this function. TigerVPN highly advises against using torrents for illegal purposes, nonetheless. I suppose subliminally. They oppose your downloading torrents.
I didn’t find any real problem when downloading torrents. However, keep in mind that we tend to only supply three hundred servers in forty-two countries, so your performance may differ from mine.
Aside from its small server network, one factor that frustrated Pine Tree State was the dearth of obfuscated servers. this can be a significant opt-out for anyone trying to use TigerVPN in China or other similarly censored countries. If this worries you, you may want to travel with ExpressVPN or Surfshark which offers a large number of servers and supports obfuscation.
Does TigerVPN Work in China?
Okay, no. China is not added by TigerVPN. None of the methods I tried to use to unblock websites like QQ and Baidu, which have servers in the national capital and port, were successful. Where obfuscated servers would have been useful in that situation.
But at this time, unfortunately, TigerVPN failed to bypass the good Firewall. If accessing Chinese content is something you explore while on a VPN, I recommend looking into ExpressVPN.
Speed – How Fast is TigerVPN?
When it comes to speeds, TigerVPN is very fast. However, performance is often a bit inconsistent between their servers. As an example, while their US and Canadian servers were quite fast, their server located in London, UK was quite slow. First, here is a screenshot of my network speed on my thirty-five Mbps membership while not TigerVPN:
First, I check speeds while connected to servers in Miami, Chicago, and the state capital. I managed to hit an average speed of around 26.43 Mbps with various US servers, that’s pretty sensible.
I then established connections with servers in Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto. I was able to get a substantially faster average download speed of 27.18 Mbps when using the Canadian server.
The speeds were a little bit slower with the UK server. I ran speed tests while connected to the Manchester and London servers. The UK server only produced 15.81 Mbps on average, which is not very reasonable. TigerVPN is generally quick, however occasionally its speeds can vary greatly.
Streaming – Does TigerVPN Work With Netflix?
Although a bit inconsistent when it comes to speeds, TigerVPN just managed to unblock Yankee Netflix. I connected to their server in New York, watched “Rick and Morty,” and it worked. The video playback quality was pretty good too. I did not find any transmission problems of any kind to complain about.
Other Streaming Services That Work With TigerVPN
Apart from “Rick and Morty” and Netflix, I also managed to unblock BBC iPlayer with their UK server. I tried to stream “Luther” with their Manchester server and it worked. However, the streaming quality was not significantly the best. However, I need to give him credit for even managing to unlock it in the first place.
Compatibility – How Many Devices Do TigerVPN Support?
When it comes to compatibility, TigerVPN is pretty no-nonsense. you’ll use it with Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. however, that is not the pleasant half. TigerVPN is also compatible with DD-WRT routers, UNIX OS, and Chromebooks. However, keep in mind that you’ll need to consider manual setups rather than directly downloadable apps.
TigerVPN For Windows & Mac
First, let’s open the TigerVPN Windows and macOS apps. Except for being popular and bug-free, there is not much to love about its apps. I mean, you’re not paying attention to the multiple customization options. You also don’t keep an eye out for security features like Kill Switch or leak protection. In general, I’m not a big fan of their apps. When they charge more, they must have a minimum of secondary basic options.
TigerVPN For iOS & Android
As for the iOS and auto apps, again, they are also empty of options. However, I prefer the interfaces and the undeniable fact that they are fast, but that’s about it. There’s not much to love about its apps. By comparison, ExpressVPN and Surfshark offer much more advanced apps with plenty of options. When it comes to mobile app ratings, TigerVPN incorporates a two. 2-star rating on the Google Play Store and an identical rating on iTunes.
Considering its lack of options, and therefore the value of its subscription plans, I find TigerVPN to be a bit pricey. The provider offers 3 (3) plans, and each of them is relatively expensive compared to a much better VPN like Surfshark. They provide multiple logins, however, the number of devices depends on the configuration you choose. Here is the evaluation of all their plans:
- 1 month ($11.99) [Save 20%]
- 12 Months ($6.67/mo) [Save 58%]
- 3 years ($2.75/month) [Save 77%]
As for multiple logins, the 1-month configuration supports 2 (2) devices at the same time. The 12-month configuration supports 3 (3) multi-logins, and therefore the 3-year configuration allows you to connect 5 (5) devices at the same time. Regarding payment strategies, TigerVPN accepts credit cards, PayPal, Paymentwall, and license codes. One thing I like about TigerVPN is that it supports Bitcoins for anonymous payments.
Last but not least, let’s mention their refund policy. TigerVPN only offers a seven-day money-back guarantee. Once again, this is something alternative VPNs do better.
Trustworthiness – Is TigerVPN Safe to Use?
Well yes, TigerVPN is quite reliable. That’s because TigerVPN doesn’t keep logs. Also, the real fact that TigerVPN is preached in the Slovak Republic, in my opinion, is safe to use. However, when it comes to its Trustpilot rating, TigerVPN packs in a pretty poor rating. It only has 1.3/5.0 stars on Trustpilot. When it comes to reviews, TigerVPN has seventy-two excellent reviews and only negative twelve-tone music reviews.
In terms of support, TigerVPN is pretty tight. they do provide live chat support, however, you need to be logged in to use it. Also, they offer an associated email ticketing system, however, it is quite slow if you ask me. I sent them a question, but they only came to Pine Tree State an hour or two later. during a shell, here area unit all support options you get:
- Manual setup guides
- General question
- Talk to humans (must log in first)
Comparison Between ExpressVPN and TigerVPN
So all in all, TigerVPN could be a pretty tight service. However, it is a bit pricey considering it only offers a few options. If you want to imagine more than just this VPN, you might want to imagine this comparison:
|Price||$6.67/month (Save forty-nine and get an extra three months FREE with the 12-month plan)||$2.75/mo|
|Servers||3000+ in 94 Countries||300+ in 42 Countries|
|Compatibility||All Devices||Windows, Android, macOS,|
iOS & more
|Jurisdiction||The British Virgin Islands||Slovakia|
|Logging Policy||Zero Log||No Logs|
|Customer Support||Live Chat & Email Support||Live Chat, FAQs & Email|
Do I Recommend TigerVPN?
Yes, I suggest TigerVPN. However, I cannot give it an immaculate rating. And there are plenty of reasons why the area unit. For one thing, it only offers a small and low server network. Furthermore, TigerVPN is seriously lacking in options. and therefore the diversion dear on behalf of me is your value.
It just doesn’t justify the $2.75/mo price as that area unit are better VPNs costing less.
In a shell, I found the service to calculate in bits and elements. while he performs well in narrow areas, he lacks seriousness in others. Overall, because TigerVPN is fast and works with Netflix and torrents, I’ll only give it 2.5/5.0 stars during this TigerVPN review.
