Avira Antivirus Review In (2024): Features, Pricing & More!

Avira Antivirus Review: Quick Expert Summary

Avira offers a powerful cloud-based antivirus scanner and a wide range of additional security tools specifically for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS users. All at an incredible price.

Avira’s antimalware engine performed remarkably well in all my tests, jamming and removing 100% of my malware samples, as well as all viruses, spyware, and ransomware. Avira’s anti-malware scanner is so clever that its intent has even been proven by several antivirus competitors, such as TotalAV.

Avira also includes the following functions:

  • Firewalls.
  • Website protections.
  • Performance optimization tools.
  • Non-public virtual network (VPN).
  • Password manager.
  • Game booster.
  • And much more

Most of Avira’s options are top-notch: performance optimization tools are wonderful for improving and speeding up a tool, secret manager resembles standalone programs more effective, and therefore internet protections are higher than the intrinsic Internet protections of Chrome or Firefox.

However, the VPN doesn’t consistently work with modern streaming sites, and I’d like to try that Avira offers comprehensive parental controls as Norton and McAfee do. And speaking of families, I’d also like Avira to offer a family plan for up to ten devices (also offered by McAfee); today, Avira’s top-tier plan only covers up to five users.

Avira also offers the best free setup on the market, with time protection, Internet protection, a secret manager, and alternative options that no other antivirus offers for free. And Avira’s paid plans are among the most profitable on the market. . , and all of them are associated with a secure 60-day money-back guarantee.

Avira Full Review

Avira Full Review Review-Itis

It offers excellent malware protection, a good range of useful extras, and an intuitive dashboard, all for a very smart value.

Avira’s malware scanner has good malware detection rates of 100%. Its Internet protections are excellent at detecting and interfering with online threats, and its secrets manager is almost as good as most independent secrets managers.

Avira also has the best free setup on the market, as well as competitively priced premium plans that offer a higher price than most antivirus alternatives.

Avira Security Features

Antivirus Scanner

Antivirus Scanner Review-Itis

Avira includes a powerful cloud-based antivirus scanner that compares files to a large malware directory and also uses heuristics to find zero-day threats. The cloud-based scanner offloads the CPU-intensive method of scanning your files to a server within the cloud, allowing Avira to use the most advanced scanning tools without slowing down users’ devices. Thanks to its effectiveness against all types of malware, Avira’s scanning technology has also been accredited by various antivirus vendors, as well as TotalAV and Systweak.

Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

To test Avira’s scanner, I downloaded and hid just over 1,000 verification files on my entire device, as well as ransomware, Trojans, spyware, keylogging malware, and rootkits. Avira detected 100% of my test files, which is pretty impressive: only many competitors like Norton, Bitdefender, and McAfee scored well in our malware tests. the full system scan took just over an associate degree hour and I didn’t experience any noticeable lag on my device, even McAfee involved my device a bit too much during a full disk antivirus scan!

I like the style of scans that Avira offers, allowing users to schedule shorter scans for specific areas of interest. In addition to a full system scan and a quick scan, Avira includes the following scans:

  • Smart scan.
  • rootkit.
  • local unit.
  • external device.
  • active method.
  • My Documents.
  • window system.

Avira Good Scan is useful de facto, it checks for malware, network security issues, outdated software package, privacy vulnerabilities, and device performance issues with an associated degree – it is primarily a malware scanner, system optimizer, and performance monitor. network security all in one.

Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

Personal Experience

I was very affected by the good Scan of Avira. In less than a few minutes, it found seventeen privacy settings that could be compromising the security of my data, as well as location sharing and app permissions that were giving apps non-essential access to all or part of my data. The good Scan also found nearly a GB of junk files to clean up, four non-current apps that needed updates, and three apps that were lagging on my computer startup.

Avira also makes it very easy to solve any problems the good Scan finds. By clicking “Troubleshoot”, Avira updates apps, deletes junk files and reconfigures settings to handle privacy considerations.

Avira’s other specialized scans can be useful for a variety of problems, especially for tech-savvy users who think they know a part of their system is infected. Giving specialized scans like a rootkit scan, an external device scan, or a Windows system file scan are often a real-time saver for expert users.

However, most users may need to easily use a full disk scan or good scanning tools to scan all those areas right away (especially as a result of various advanced malware files that will duplicate and hide in numerous system elements of a user).

Overall, Avira’s antimalware scanner is one of the most effective on the market: it’s fast, doesn’t cause system lag, and is excellent at policing and blocking all types of malware. Avira also offers a variety of system scans, as well as very specific options, a kind of rootkit scan. And there’s also a smart scan that checks for system vulnerabilities and performance issues, ensuring everything on your device works as it should.

Web Protection

Web Protection Review-Itis

Avira’s Browser Safety extension blocked most phishing sites, ads, and trackers in my tests, however, it wasn’t an efficient defense against exploit attacks. The extension can be obtained in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Opera. First, I tested Avira’s Browser Safety extension against a dozen great phishing websites, and it blocked most of them, yielding far better results than the built-in protections in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.

Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

Personal Experience

Browser security is also good at blocking ads and online trackers. I compared Browser Safety to uBlock Origin and visited five websites that take ads seriously. You can see that on most sites, Browser Safety worked better than uBlock Origin:

# of Ads Blocked By Browser Safety# of Ads Blocked By uBlock OriginBrowser Safety Success Rate (as compared to uBlock Origin)
https://www.msn.com4630153%
https://www.yahoo.com10993612%
https://www.aol.com11611799%
https://www.wired.com13462216%
https://www.tmz.com147107137%

However, I was very frustrated with Avira Browser Safety’s exploit protection.

It exploits area unit web-based tools that take advantage of a package vulnerability to access users’ devices and even install malware. Most of these exploit attacks are accepted and many browsers and Internet shields will discover them and block websites that contain exploits. However, in my tests, Avira Browser Safety only detected about 100% of the exploit attacks I tested it against (by comparison, Bitdefender’s Internet Protection feature detected 100% of the exploit attacks in my tests) ).

Overall, Avira’s online protection is pretty sensible, however, its protection against exploit attacks is pretty unhealthy. I’d like to see Avira improve its anti-exploit capabilities, especially since Avira Browser Safety has an excellent ad blocker and hunter from Associate in Nursing that also blocks phishing websites more accurately than Chrome or Firefox.

Device Optimization Tools

Device Optimization Tools Review-Itis

Avira’s system improvement tools are fully dedicated: they’re easy to use, they’ll clean house on your system, and they incorporate useful metrics to help users chart their system’s performance over time. Avira’s main device enhancement tools include:

  • PC junk file cleaner.
  • Startup Optimizer.
  • Driver updater.
  • Battery usage manager.
  • game booster.

Computer Junk File Cleaner detects junk and unused files and folders.

During my tests, Avira found over 1.3GB of junk files clogging up my drive. Avira also marked the bound files and folders I should have kept, allowing the US state to decide whether or not they needed to be disposed of. Avira Junk File Cleaner is really smart: only TotalAV can detect and remove junk files as well as Avira.

Startup Optimizer shows programs reduce the boot time of your PC, allowing you to prevent programs from starting on startup or remove them altogether. Users with considerably slower boot times will choose a Hyper Boost, provided Avira asks you to revive your device five times to investigate and optimize your boot sequence.

This Hyper Boost feature may be a bit long, but it can be a very useful gadget for anyone struggling with a buggy boot sequence. Another thing I like about the startup optimizer is that it tracks the loading time of a PC Associate in nursing and displays the information in an easy-to-read graph.

Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

Personal Experience

I was also hit hard by Avira’s driver updater, which scanned my entire software system and notified the US state that the programs were out of date. Keeping system software up to date is not simply a matter of performance or quality: system software updates often contain security patches that stop working on security vulnerabilities. Avira Driver Updater can be a very useful security feature that can ensure that your device is protected against most of the popular exploit attacks.

Battery usage manager isn’t spectacular, though: It will put your system into a coffee power mode, which dims the screen and prevents automatic updates, but doesn’t track apps or processes that usurp battery life. drums. like automata and iOS do for mobile users.

Game Booster is a good tool that closes background apps, stops redundant services, and optimizes network settings to increase processor performance during superior fun. In my tests, I saw an understandable difference in performance once I took advantage of Avira’s game booster, especially with online games like Destiny 2 which can often experience lag due to network property issues. I had less lag and none of the intermittent lag I often see when gaming online.

However, I still think BullGuard Game Booster is much higher, because of the way it remaps system processes on multi-core PCs so that games run more efficiently – BullGuard Game Boosters and McAfee {are square American state } the only tools on the market that have allowed me to stretch my graphics settings and frame rates while having fun.

But overall, I’m very proud of Avira’s device enhancement options: they’re some of the most advanced system optimization tools I’ve tried.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Virtual Private Network (VPN) Review-Itis

Avira’s Phantom VPN provides smart security, offers an honest server network, maintains fast speeds, and has a zero-logs policy, however, you can’t consistently access streaming sites. Phantom VPN Pro with unlimited data is included with Avira’s premium Prime package, while lower-tier plans are limited to just five hundred MB of browsing data per month (which isn’t much).

Phantom VPN jointly has:

  • AES 256-bit encryption. All user data is protected with unbreakable cryptography.
  • A strict no-logging policy. Avira does not keep records of the sites you have just visited or the files you have just transferred.
  • DNS leak protection. Phantom VPN supports IPv4 and IPv6 traffic.
  • Malware blocker. It prevents you from visiting malicious websites.
  • Multiple server locations. 1,400 server locations in thirty-seven countries,
Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

Personal Experience

Avira’s VPN is quite fast: during my tests, my speed dropped by 25-30% on average, which is similar to some of the most effective standalone VPNs on the market, such as ProtonVPN. Leveraging Avira’s VPN, I was able to surf online, watch videos, transfer files, and play games with little to no lag. I did experience some lag while connected to very distant servers, but all VPNs cause some slowdown in speeds, especially on long-distance servers.

Phantom VPN supports five synchronous connections, that’s not unfortunate (the business average is 5-7 devices at a time). However, Avira’s VPN cannot be installed on good routers, game consoles, or TVs, which can be inconvenient for people who want to protect all the devices on their unit. Independent competitors like ExpressVPN are often installed on all devices, and some VPNs provide unlimited synchronous connections, like CactusVPN.

Unfortunately, Avira’s VPN didn’t work with popular streaming sites in my tests – it wasn’t ready to access Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Disney+. If you’re trying to find a fast VPN with sensible streaming capabilities, I like to recommend standalone VPNs like ExpressVPN or ProtonVPN.

However, Phantom VPN supports P2P traffic and works with all major torrent buyers. Alternative VPNs bundled with antiviruses, such as Norton Secure VPN and McAfee Safe Connect, do not allow torrenting.

Overall Phantom VPN can be a pretty good VPN and is decently priced as part of the Avira Prime package, however, there are better standalone options out there. That said, for users looking for a simple, secure, and fast VPN with a decent range of international server locations, Avira’s Phantom VPN might be a good option.

Password Manager

Password Manager Review-Itis

Avira Secrets Manager provides secure storage of secrets, an intuitive Nursing Associate interface, and some wonderful security measures. It will probably be my favorite antivirus included secrets manager in 2022 (although Norton Secret Manager is also insanely good). Avira is also one of the only secrets managers that provides unlimited secrets storage and synchronization between mobile and desktop devices in its free version (Avira’s free antivirus setup and super cheap antivirus professional plans include the free secrets manager from Avira, while the more expensive web version Security and Prime plans include Avira secret Manager Pro).

Some key options that Avira includes in its secret manager are:

  • 256-bit encryption.
  • Biometric mobile login.
  • Two-factor authentication (2FA).
  • Password generator.
  • Autosave and autocomplete.
  • Data breach enforcement (Pro version).
  • Password Vault Audit (Pro version).

Avira’s secret admin panel is de facto clean and easy to navigate.

It also includes a browser extension that will auto-save and auto-fill login information, as well as generate strong passwords to use. The extension is available in Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.

Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

An obvious feature missing from the browser extension may be a secret generator. there is a secret generator within the desktop app, however, it would be very useful to have one within the browser extension to use once you create new accounts.

Personal Experience

Avira Secret Manager also features a specialized mobile app that is available on humanoid and iOS devices. It integrates well with humanoid and iOS autofill and biometric login options, and mechanically syncs logins that are saved in your vault to alternate devices.

Avira’s Vault Audit Tool is pretty smart – it organized all my insecure logins (weak, repeated, or old), so I can just go through the list and show my secrets to improve the overall health of my vault (although I’d like to see Avira embody an automatic password change feature like Norton and Dashlane). Knowledge gap monitor|information|information} also provides live updates if your logins are caught in any public data breach, that’s quite useful.

Avira’s secret manager lacks a few extra options: it doesn’t support 2FA USB tokens like YubiKey, and it won’t allow family secret vault sharing as 1Password does, nor will it watch the dark web live like Dashlane will; however, he is still a solid secret admin.

Additional Features

Avira includes a ton of additional options, including:

  • Secret write file. Protect files and folders with passwords.
  • File shredding. It completely deletes files so hackers can’t recover them.
  • Network traffic manager. Shows the web-connected app area unit and offers the option to bypass secure connections if necessary.
  • Process manager. It keeps track of all active processes and halts those that are useless.
  • Disk Defragmenter. Improves organization and speed of onerous drives.
  • File recovery. Restore accidentally deleted files.
  • Safe look. Browser extension that recommends higher offers once searched online.

I like the file tool – I could completely erase files from my drive with just a few clicks. Features like method manager and disk defragmenter area drive are already available in Windows and are waterproof, but having continuous and easy access in Avira is useful, especially for people who are new to these tools.

Though I wasn’t too bothered by the safe-looking browser extension: I rarely notified the US state of higher ideals, and often offered flashy alternatives, like notifying the US state of a low-priced nursery on Amazon after buying books from Animorphs.

Avira Plans and Pricing

Avira has four plans available:

Avira’s two best plans are the Free Security area unit, which offers the simplest free antivirus coverage on the market, and Prime, a feature-rich plan that covers up to five devices for an affordable value. I’m not a big fan of the Antivirus Pro and Net Security plans, especially since they only cover one device each. A 60-day money-back guarantee is offered with each Avira package.

Avira Free Security — Excellent Free Antivirus

Avira’s free fix includes:

  • Virus scanner.
  • Real-time protection.
  • firewalls.
  • Phantom VPN (with 500 MB of free knowledge per month).
  • Password manager (separate download).
  • Navigation security.
  • Device upgrade.
  • Safe-looking extensions and browser security.
  • File devise.

Avira’s free version offers a powerful antivirus engine similar to the premium version, along with Avira’s temporary antimalware scan. Protects against all malware, including ransomware, not like alternative free antiviruses that force you to get the premium version to induce ransomware protection.

The VPN is extremely restricted in terms of {knowledge|knowledge|information}: five hundred MB of free data per month is simply enough to try many Google searches daily. And it only allows access to the closest server location, which means you can’t select alternate server options – there are plenty of cheaper standalone VPN units on the market (ProtonVPN offers unlimited data with its free plan).

While Avira Free Security is one of the simplest free antivirus offerings on the market, it lacks many of the features that Avira’s paid plans include, such as unlimited VPN information and secret manager information protection tools. Avira Free users also do not have access to customer support via email or phone.

Avira Antivirus Pro — Decent, But Not Worth the Money

Avira Antivirus Pro doesn’t do anything that Avira’s free system doesn’t offer. Professional antivirus subscribers have access to Avira email and mobile customer support, but that’s the only difference between the two plans.

However, new users who assume they need a lot of technical help will give Avira Antivirus Professional a try (but you’ll probably find yourself itching to upgrade to Avira Prime).

Avira Internet Security — More Features for a Good Price

Avira’s Net Security suite includes all the tools of the free version, but also has:

  • Professional password manager.
  • Software and driver updater.

I like Avira’s premium secrets manager, which incorporates knowledge gap monitoring and secret vault auditing options; however, it is not as good as premium secret managers like Dashlane and Keeper. I also think Avira’s update tool can be a useful web security feature, and this package still includes phone and email customer support.

But I don’t think that these 2 options believe that Avira net Security is definitely worth the price of the annual membership subscription. You’ll just transfer the free setup from Avira and get a decent secret manager for a better price.

But users that want to have an all-in-one antivirus and premium password manager with some good additional security features can give Avira Internet Security a look.

Avira Prime — The Best Avira Package Available

Avira’s Prime Package includes all the options listed above but also includes:

  • Ghost VPN Professional.
  • Clean junk files.
  • PC performance optimizer.
  • Coverage on five devices.

This package may be of special value: it covers five devices for a one-touch bit, but Norton 360, although Norton’s premium plans provide options like live dark web watching, full parental controls, and fraud protection, making it a security additional full-featured web. Program.

Overall, the Avira Prime is Avira’s best value configuration – you get a lot of cool options for a competitive price.

Avira Ease of Use and Setup

Of all the antiviruses I’ve tried, Avira is one of the easiest to install and use.

Installation took only ten minutes. While other antiviruses I tried installed a little faster than Avira, such as TotalAV, the entire Avira installation process was a breeze, only requiring a few clicks to complete.

Avira’s options are extremely intuitive and easy to use. Running the Associate in Nursing antivirus scan and manhandling the device upgrade options will be easy for many non-tech savvy users.

Avira Ease of Use and Setup Review-Itis

I was ready to schedule scans for a few seconds by simply clicking the calendar icon and setting the frequency of each scan.

Personal Experience

One of the nice things about Avira is that it offers various scanning options. This could probably be overwhelming for people who don’t have a lot of technical information, however, Avira’s interface makes it very easy to navigate scanning and programming.

Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

When compared to other antivirus programs, Avira’s complete scan scarcely used any of my CPU. It only took up about 20-25% of my CPU power. That’s nothing compared to when I tried Panda and McAfee on my computer. Which took up over five hundred of my CPU once a pestilence scan was run. With Avira, I could be ready to use my computer as usual once the scan runs. So I could edit videos and browse YouTube without system slowdowns.

Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

In general, Avira is easy to install and easy to use. Even novice users can find it easy to access all of the device’s protection and enhancement options. It is also very lightweight and the scanning engine will not affect the performance of the computer while mistreating CPU-intensive programs.

Avira Mobile App

Avira’s mobile app is compatible with Mechanical Man and iOS, Associate in Nursing, and offers many great options in an intuitive interface.

I tried the Mechanical Man app on my Nokia smartphone half a dozen and also tried the iOS app on my iPad.

The antivirus scanner on the mechanical man was terrifyingly fast – it took just five minutes, and I didn’t experience any noticeable lag on my phone. I downloaded a lot of Android-specific malware data to my device, and was shocked to find that the mobile app returned a consistent result from the desktop app: 100% of my test files were completely removed from my phone or corrupted. They quarantined.

Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

Avira’s mobile apps include these features:

  • Website protection.
  • Anti-theft device finder.
  • Camera and microphone protection.
  • app locker
  • Call blocker.
  • VPN
  • Password manager.
  • Performance Optimizer.
  • Identity breach alerts.
  • Wi-Fi network scanning.
  • Siri protection (iOS only).
  • iOS Updater (iOS only).
Avira Antivirus Review Review-Itis

Personal Experience

I particularly like the permission manager and electroacoustic transducer protection. It’s often hard to keep track of which apps grant those permissions and having a few prompts on my phone to manage them is incredibly helpful.

The performance optimizer is also good. I have an external microSD card associated with my phone and Avira cleans that storage as my internal storage. My phone was operating with a lot of power tools when I used the optimization tool.

The anti-theft feature is perhaps the weakest, though it still works just as well. Accuracy is fine: It set up my device at my neighbor’s place across the street and works better than Google and Apple’s device locator apps. Which I’ve always found a bit cumbersome. However, compared to Norton, which could find a tool within sixty-five feet, Avira’s anti-theft feature isn’t as good.

But overall, Avira’s mobile apps are incredibly feature-rich: they provide advanced app and malware scanning for your device, monitor privacy violations, optimize device performance, and provide a collection of great anti-theft tools.

Avira Customer Support

Avira’s customer support is pretty no-nonsense. Their phone support and cognitive online content are particularly wonderful.

Avira customer support options include:

  • Email support.
  • Telephone support.
  • Cognitive content online.

Unfortunately, there is no live chat facility, that’s my most popular customer support facility.

The only customer support possible for free users is the cognitive content section on the Avira website. I used it to undertake and fix many issues related to antivirus settings. I was very happy with the cognitive content because it offers elaborate answers that can solve most of the problems.

Avira Customer Support Review-Itis

There is a range of rates for premium users, offering customer support between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and 11 pm Central European Time for more than 30 countries, including the US. Countries that cannot access the rate range have the option to choose another range but will be charged their local phone rates.

I gave Avira phone support a decision to raise the installation and it was only on hold for several minutes. I was very satisfied with the service I received: the person I spoke with was very friendly and responded with clear solutions to my problem.

Premium users will have the option to contact support via email. I sent a message to Avira inquiring about the request and received a reply within 24 hours. In-person, I want your interval to be quicker: Norton’s email support team can come back to you in an hour or two!

In general, Avira’s customer support is good. The cognitive content is incredibly crafted, the phone support is nice, and while the email support may be a bit quicker, the support reps are insanely helpful.

Is Avira a Good Antivirus

Avira is undoubtedly one of the best antiviruses on the market today, a claim backed by its high malware detection rates, a wide selection of excellent web security measures, and simple interface.

Overall, Avira is certainly easy to use, making it a great option for non-tech-savvy users. For such a sophisticated antivirus scanner, Avira is also very light: it consumes less processor power than most other antiviruses I’ve tested.

I was also struck by the variety of additional options, including the excellent device optimization tools. The secure parole manager, and the automatic package update. The VPN is pretty smart too, but there are better standalone VPN options out there.

I would prefer Avira to provide additional strong parental controls, fraud protection, and mobile anti-theft options like Norton and McAfee do. However, Avira is still a great value antivirus with a few extra specialized options.

Overall, Avira is a great budget antivirus suite, and it comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it risk-free.

Bottom Line

Avira is a budget-friendly web security suite with an excellent anti-malware engine, a host of useful add-on options, and intuitive apps on all devices and operating systems. Avira caught 100 percent of the malware in my tests without slowing down my computer, and its system enhancement tools are some of the best I’ve tried.

I also like Avira’s secure positive ID manager and I guess the VPN is pretty strict, but Avira’s network protections aren’t as good as Norton or Bitdefender. Avira has one of the simplest free plans on the market, and its affordable Avira Prime package provides comprehensive cybersecurity protection for up to five devices. Avira backs every purchase with a risk-free 60-day money-back guarantee.

FAQs

Is Avira’s Antivirus Protection Good?

Avira achieved an ideal malware detection rate of 100 percent in my tests. Both its antivirus scanner and temporary scan engine managed to detect and block viruses, ransomware, spyware, rootkits, and more.

Avira has combined its scanning engine with cloud-based technology to deliver fast, lightweight, and comprehensive malware detection; it’s even as smart for anti-malware protection as premium competitors like McAfee and Norton.

Does Avira Have a Free Version?

Yes. Avira will offer a free version of its antivirus, which uses a similar powerful scanning engine as the premium version. Avira’s free version even includes a protection period, which is quite rare for a free antivirus!

Avira Free Security is my favorite free web security software. That said, the free version is restricted in terms of additional options.

The Avira Prime package includes all of Avira’s premium options, as well as an excellent positive ID manager, comprehensive system enhancement tools, and a decent for a reasonably good price.

Will Avira Slow Down My Computer?

Avira will not restrict most devices.

It’s an especially lightweight antivirus code, and as my test results show, it only consumed a fraction of my computer’s processing power compared to other antivirus brands.

One of the reasons Avira is so lightweight is because it uses cloud-based technology as part of its scanning engine. This means files are squarely scanned hard and abuse Avira’s servers (competitors like Bitdefender also use scanning cloud-based). Technology to deliver superior antivirus scanning without draining your hardware).

Is Avira’s VPN Safe to Use?

Yes, Avira VPN is safe to use. It uses 256-bit AES cryptography, contains a strict no-logging policy, and offers a kill switch.

Avira’s VPN can be pretty strict, and it’s great for general web browsing, torrenting, and entertainment, but it’s not a good fit for streaming.

If you’re trying to find a reliable VPN with wonderful streaming capabilities, take a look at ExpressVPN.
