On paper, ZenMate is just about the right VPN. While it has over 45 million users, it also has its downsides. Decide what I believe regarding this service in my in-depth review.

ZenMate VPN – I am sure you are already aware of how popular this VPN service is. Although it’s not usually completely free in a heartbeat and part of the explanation for why it currently has around 45 million users, however, these days it’s not free anymore. But has the service improved or is it worth getting high VPNs like ExpressVPN or NordVPN?
Well, once I did all the testing for this ZenMate review, I found it to be pretty sensible. It currently doesn’t keep activity logs, offers 3600 servers, is fairly fast, and works with both Netflix and torrents. Overall, it’s worth trying in 2022.
That said, there are still a few things to consider before getting the ZenMate. For one thing, it doesn’t add China. In addition, it also lacks some small options here and there like split tunneling and ad blocker. Overall, once I fully considered ZenMate’s pros and cons, I gave it 3.2/5.0 stars during this review.
Table of Contents
Jurisdiction – Where is Zenmate VPN Located?
ZenMate is based in Germany, which may be part of the disreputable Fourteen Eyes Alliance if you don’t find out. Therefore, ZenMate must attend to the authorities in any request for user information. this suggests that if the authorities were to make their users’ information available to ZenMate, it would have to follow unintentionally.
However, since ZenMate claims to have no logs, I don’t think it’s something to worry about too much. But, if you’re not too sure and value your privacy for something, then you might want to travel with something like ExpressVPN which is based in the British Virgin Islands.
Security – Does ZenMate Keep Logs?
Well yes, ZenMate will keep some records. However, despite having a rather confusing privacy policy, ZenMate claims not to keep logs of your online activities which I guess is what matters in the end. however, it still doesn’t add up to why they register scientific addresses. Here are some non-personal data that ZenMate stores:
- The varieties and versions of browsers used
- The software package is used by the access system.
- The website of that Nursing Associate access system reaches our website (so-called referrers)
- The sub-websites
- The date and time of access to the website
- The Internet Protocol address (IP address)
- the access system’s Internet service provider.
- Any other similar information to be used in the event of attacks on our data technology systems
While these varieties of logs aren’t too risky, one thing I find quite odd about ZenMate’s privacy policy is that they mention providing law enforcement authorities with the knowledge they need to take legal action in the event of cyber attacks.
In general, the decision maker for their no logs policy, it’s an arduous US state|on my behalf} to use and not expect me to be ratted out in case I’m supposed to do something pirated. part of the reason I advised ExpressVPN earlier.
Encryption & Other Features
As security measures, ZenMate offers strong 256-bit AES cryptography in addition to industry-standard VPN protocols such as OpenVPN, IKEv2, and L2TP/IPsec. although these protocols are above enough for any user, however, I still wish they had offered many.
In general, in terms of cryptography and protocols, ZenMate is quite secure. But, when it comes to the security features of ZenMate, it lacks a touch. for example, you won’t notice options like split tunneling or the Associate in Nursing ad blocker. On the upside, however, it will provide some basic features like a kill switch and DNS leak protection.
Leaks – Does ZenMate VPN Leak IP, DNS, WebRTC?
Despite lacking a few options, ZenMate is seaworthy. Except for not leaking my DNS, due to comprehensive DNS leak protection, ZenMate also passed my scientific, WebRTC, and virus tests with no issues.
IP Leak Test:
First, I tried scientific leaks. To do that, I connected to Associate in Nursing’s Austrian ZenMate server and ran the verification. As you will see in the screenshot below, my original scientific address is not exposed. ZenMate passed this check without issue.
DNS Leak Test:
Next, I checked for DNS leaks. Currently, as I mentioned earlier, ZenMate comes with comprehensive DNS leak protection, so it managed to point out no signs of DNS leaks. check the screenshot below and you will see that I am only victimizing Austrian DNS servers. up to this point so sensible.
WebRTC Leak Test:
As for WebRTC leaks, ZenMate also passed this check without any issues. Even after various tests, ZenMate showed no apparent signs of WebRTC leaks.
Virus Test:
Last but not least, I ran their automaton app link via Virustotal.com and did not notice any hidden or malicious virus in the slightest. so if it’s speculative ZenMate will be derived, well I think it’s pretty anonymous overall.
Servers – Is ZenMate P2P Compatible?
Yes, ZenMate fully supports P2P. In fact, out of 3,600 servers in seventy-six countries, ZenMate offers many dedicated servers just for torrenting. If you go to the “For torrenting” tab in your app, you will see a bunch of servers that are optimized for torrenting. In terms of performance, I had no problems downloading torrents, and therefore the server load indicator made it very convenient to choose the best server.
Does ZenMate Work in China?
Unfortunately, ZenMate does not add China. Despite trying to unblock various Chinese websites, I had virtually no luck. This is usually not too surprising, since it doesn’t offer a Chinese server in the first place. I’ve also noticed that ZenMate doesn’t add other heavily vetted countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran. So if that’s something you’re worried about, then you might be interested in alternatives like ExpressVPN or NordVPN.
Speed – How Fast is ZenMate?
As for speeds, ZenMate is quite fast. I’ve checked its rates on multiple servers and found it to deliver above-average rates on my test membership of thirty-five Mbps. First, here’s a screenshot of my default web speeds while I don’t have the ZenMate connected:
Canada Server:
When I connected to ZenMate’s Canadian server, I managed to reach a download speed of around 31.15 Mbps. So far, greatly affected by ZenMate.
US Server:
With ZenMate’s US server, I got slightly reduced speeds, but I wouldn’t complain too much. On average, the US servers managed to deliver a transfer speed of twenty-eight.15 Mbps.
UK Server:
Lastly, I jointly checked the speeds with the UK servers and again was hit hard. On average, the UK server managed to generate around 27.21 Mbps of transfer speed.
Streaming – Does ZenMate Work With Netflix?
In addition to delivering fast speeds, ZenMate also managed to perform just as well with Netflix even more. As for the video playback quality, I tried to enjoy “The Avengers” and did not encounter any streaming issues at all. I wouldn’t say anything similar for the overall quality though.
Other Streaming Services That Work With ZenMate
Apart from Netflix, ZenMate also managed to easily unblock BBC iPlayer with the UK server. I did run into a couple of transmission issues here and there though. but overall, I was impressed by the fact that it managed to unblock both Netflix and BBC iPlayer.
Compatibility – Which Devices Can I Use ZenMate With?
When it comes to compatibility, ZenMate is pretty sensible. you’ll be able to port compatible apps or add them directly to Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux, and even game consoles. You can combine ZenMate to work with Firestick TV, Apple TV, Chromebook, Raspberry Pi, Smart TV, and even routers.
The fact that it comes with browser extensions for popular browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Opera is what I appreciate most, but I also like the undeniable truth that one subscription may be used simultaneously on an unlimited number of devices. Overall, you shouldn’t have any trouble using your device and any of the ZenMate apps.
ZenMate For Windows & Mac
As I mentioned earlier, ZenMate offers apps for both Windows and Mac. In terms of victimization of these apps, I found them quite easy to use and elegant. Finding all the options is also very easy in both ZenMate’s Windows and Mackintosh applications. Overall, if you’re a first-year VPN user, you’re aiming to love the simplicity of ZenMate.
ZenMate For iOS & Android
As for the ZenMate iOS and golem apps, they are equally elegant and easy to use. You don’t pretend to have a lot of options, but I guess that’s what makes it super quick to use. Overall, I have nothing to complain about regarding their iOS and golem apps. In terms of ratings, ZenMate comes with a 3.8-star rating on the Google Play Store and a 4.1-star rating on the iTunes Store.
Pricing – How Much Does ZenMate Cost?
As for the rating, ZenMate is quite reasonable. Currently, you will be able to choose between 3 subscription plans, 1 month, 18 months, and 6 months. Here’s the rating for each of those plans:
- 1 month ($12.99)
- 3 years ($1.99/month) (85% discount)
- 12 months ($4.49/month) (59% discount)
Now, in terms of payment methods, you will only be able to buy ZenMate through PayPal and credit cards. Notably, you have no options to get ZenMate anonymously via Bitcoins. but the good thing is that all ZenMate subscription plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Another thing I forgot to mention earlier is that ZenMate also offers a 7-day free trial which I find pretty awesome.
Trustworthiness – Is ZenMate Safe to Use?
Well, taking decisions from my own experience and online reviews, ZenMate is quite safe to use. If we refer to the Trustpilot score, ZenMate has an overall associate degree rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. It also has pretty positive reviews even more so. For example, ZenMate has seventy-nine excellent reviews and only 100% negative reviews. That’s the ratio at which people think ZenMate is safe to use.
ZenMate Reddit Reviews
On the other hand, Reddit has quite mixed opinions regarding ZenMate. I came across many positive and negative reviews on Reddit. As an example, here is a positive comment regarding ZenMate:
Here’s another comment suggesting how awful ZenMate is:
As I mentioned above, I also stumbled across a lot of negative comments later on. Here’s a Reddit comment saying that ZenMate is garbage:
In conclusion, it appears that opinions on ZenMate are mixed. It seemed to make sense to me and I didn’t have many issues with it.
Customer Support
In terms of support, ZenMate is pretty good. I mean, you’re getting live chat support along with a couple of other different options. I found their live chat support to be remarkably helpful. His support agent passed me between minutes which I think is very spectacular.

FAQs
Do I Recommend ZenMate VPN?
Yes, I suggest ZenMate. There are a host of reasons why. It offers a free trial, keeps no activity logs, works with Netflix and torrents, and offers faster speeds. Overall, it’s a pretty awful VPN service. However, it is not quite good.
For instance, it doesn’t have a split tunnel partner or even an ad blocker, despite providing security features like Kill Switch and DNS leak protection. I think you now understand where I’m going with this. In my perspective, ZenMate still needs to work on adding a few features and enhancing the service.
For starters, I would appreciate it if you could make your privacy policy easy to understand like most other VPNs these days. So while I suggest victimizing ZenMate, I can’t give it more than 3.2 stars during this ZenMate review. Overall, if you want to travel around ZenMate, that’s fine and sensible, but if you want to do something else, explore our unbiased VPN reviews.
